Following a similar format to the previous editions, the primary philosophy of the book is to comprehensively cover the basic science of metabolism, linking this closely to the pathophysiology and clinical aspects of the disease. A valuable resource for the whole diabetes community, the new edition offers: * Fully revised, updated and expanded chapters * Comprehensive coverage of all aspects of diabetes * 116 extensively referenced chapters * Full colour throughout * Available in print and online The International Textbook of Diabetes Mellitus, Third Edition is also available online via Wiley InterScience. With the flexibility afforded by the powerful search and navigation capabilities of Wiley InterScience, you can search the Textbook by subject, article and keyword. New and revised articles added regularly ensure that both professionals and students working within diabetes are kept abreast of rapidly developing areas such as genetics, treatment and epidemiology. This excellent work is an essential reference tool for all members of diabetes and endocrine teams, medical students, medical schools and libraries, and provides a valuable resource for pharmaceutical companies and industries which have an interest in this important field. FROM REVIEWS OF THE SECOND EDITION: "The scope is extraordinarily wide and truly international...a must for all libraries and any individuals who are seriously interested in the diabetes epidemic..." (Diabetologia) "...a cornerstone in the field of diabetes..." Download or read book Allergic Reactions to Drugs written by Alain L. de Weck and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 771 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: According to most studies, allergic reactions represent 35%-50% of all untoward reactions to drugs, yet the pharmacological literature concerning the clinical aspects, diagnosis, and pathophysiological mechanisms of drug allergy is markedly less extensive than reports dealing with the toxicological or pharmacological effects of drugs. The main reasons for this state of affairs may be on the one hand that until a few years ago the pathophysiological mechanisms of the various types of allergic reactions were not well understood, and on the other hand that objective diagnosis of a drug allergy is still fraught with serious difficulties. Drug allergy is still an unpopular topic for most allergologists and pharmacologists; this is reflected by the fact that despite their frequency, allergic reactions to drugs still occupy a relatively small proportion of space in most pharmacology handbooks and in classical books devoted to the side effects of drugs. There has recently been considerable progress in research into the immunologi cal and pathophysiological events occurring in allergic reactions, and on that basis investigations of various drug allergies have also yield~d new objective findings. Consequently, it was natural to attempt a review of the most frequent and important drug allergies in the form of a handbook. We originally intended to present a comprehensive review of all drug allergies, but the realization of this goal soon became more difficult than we had at first imagined.

Download or read book Vascular and Neurological Changes in Early Diabetes written by Rafael A. Camerini-Dávalos and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 2013-10-22 with total page 623 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Advances in Metabolic Disorders, Supplement 2: Vascular and Neurological Changes in Early Diabetes covers knowledge of the vascular and neurological changes in early diabetes. The book discusses the prevalence of macroangiopathy in asymptomatic diabetes, the prevalence of asymptomatic diabetes in human atherosclerosis, and the observations made in seeking evidence for macroangiopathy, microangiopathy, and neurological changes in patients with latent diabetes. The text also describes angiopathy and neuropathy in mild juvenile diabetes; the role of insulin in the development of atherosclerosis; and the effect of insulin on lipid metabolism of human arteries. Discussions about microangiopathy, including topics on serum glycoprotein disturbances and their rheological effects in diabetes mellitus; the biochemical properties of human glomerular basement membrane in normal and diabetic kidneys; and the plasma levels of growth hormone and glucagon in diabetic patients and relatives of diabetic patients are also considered. The book further tackles topics about neuropathy, including the role of sorbitol pathway in neuropathy, the polyol pathway in the neuropathy of early diabetes, as well as nervous abnormalities in early diabetes. The text concludes by looking into the effect of treatment on diabetes. Endocrinologist, biochemists, physiologists, and researchers working on related topics will find the book useful.
