Download or read book Tierck Clafsen DeWitt and Descendants of His Son Luycas DeWitt written by Vona (DeWitt) Smith and published by Trafford Publishing. This book was released on 2004 with total page 344 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The DeWitt genealogy is a fascinating study of 26 generations of the family from 1293 to the present. This work is the collaboration of descendants of the three children of Leucas, ninth child of Tierck Clafsen DeWitt. American Ambassador Lester DeWitt Ballor of UEL descent obtained a copy from The Royal Library of the Hague of Beschayving DerStad Dordrecht by Mattys Balen, Jans Zoon published in 1677. This information provided the first thirteen generations in Holland. He also received a 32-page copy of a lawsuit in 1684 by Jan DeWitt on behalf of his brother Tierck for rent owned by Pieter Janz, their sister Faelde's husband. The property was land inherited by Tierck from his father Nicholaas. It provided information on her mother Taetje Cornelisz, her father, brothers and their shipyard.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Set in France and America, News of Our Loved Ones is a haunting and intimate examination of love and loss, beauty and the cost of survival, witnessed through two generations of one French family, whose lives are all touched by the tragic events surrounding the D-Day bombings in Normandy. What if your family’s fate could be traced back to one indelible summer? Over four long years, the Delasalle family has struggled to live in their Nazi occupied village in Normandy. Maman, Oncle Henri, Yvonne, and Françoise silently watched as their Jewish neighbors were arrested or wordlessly disappeared. Now in June 1944, when the sirens wail each day, warning of approaching bombers, the family wonders if rumors of the coming Allied invasion are true—and if they will survive to see their country liberated. For sixteen-year-old Yvonne, thoughts of the war recede when she sees the red-haired boy bicycle past her window each afternoon. Murmuring to herself I love you, I love you, I love you, she wills herself to hear the whisper of his bicycle tires over the screech of Allied bombs falling from the sky. Yvonne’s sister, Geneviève, is in Paris to audition for the National Conservatory. Pausing to consider the shadow of a passing cloud as she raises her bow, she does not know that her family’s home in Normandy lies in the path of British and American bombers. While Geneviève plays, her brother Simon and Tante Chouchotte, anxiously await news from their loved ones in Normandy. Decades later, Geneviève, the wife of an American musician, lives in the United States. Each summer she returns to her homeland with her children, so that they may know their French family. Geneviève’s youngest daughter, Polly, becomes obsessed with the stories she hears about the war, believing they are the key to understanding her mother and the conflicting cultures shaping her life. Moving back and forth in time, told from varying points of view, News of Our Loved Ones explores the way family histories are shared and illuminates the power of storytelling to understand the past and who we are.

Book excerpt: In 1954, one year after Baltimore bought the St. Louis Browns, the New York Yankees hired former Browns executive and owner William O. DeWitt as assistant to general manager George Weiss. "DeWitt," the news announced, "was considered an astute baseball man who would have a definite role to play with the Yankees." Baseball fans had assumed that once the Browns were no longer the American League's doormats, DeWitt would quietly retire. But for DeWitt, a shrewd protege of Branch Rickey, his years with the Browns began a long and fascinating career, including his years as owner and general manager of the Cincinnati Reds. This first ever biography focuses on the career of a baseball executive who contributed greatly to America's pastime.

Book The O Neal Dunbar Lincoln Edwards Dewitt Hodge Bostic Families

Download or read book The O Neal Dunbar Lincoln Edwards Dewitt Hodge Bostic Families written by Ann DeWitt and published by . This book was released on 2014-03-24 with total page 81 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This 2014 composition documents the initial findings of genealogical material for Betsy O'Neal, her immediate family and collateral relatives. Family Tree DNA mtDNA Full Sequence results confirm Haplogroup J1c2c for a maternal line descendant of Mrs. Betsy O'Neal. ScienceNews Magazine on March 9, 2013 announced that King Richard III's mtDNA signature was J1c2c. However, scientists are unaware if Betsy is a collateral descendant of King Richard III. Even though Betsy's maternal line is of European descent, regional archivists and genealogists conclude that Betsy and her family group were enumerated as Mulatto on the 1860 United States Slave Schedule, Darlington, South Carolina for Griffin O'Neal. In the book, the birth years covered range from 1814 to 1918. Family research citations are derived from state/county vital records, census records, cemetery surveys, and military records, to name a few. Each descendant includes name (first/last), occupation, year of birth, year of death, a photo, and genealogical citations. If made available, additional supporting documents are presented to provide a sense of the major accomplishments for a few of Betsy's descendants. Though this book neither includes all descendants nor every possible record, the research indeed aims to save family members, curators, librarians, educators and genealogists precious time in locating genealogical sources for the O'Neal, Dunbar, Lincoln, Edwards, DeWitt, Hodge, Bostic families, primarily of Darlington, Florence, Marion, Lee, Chesterfield, and Marlboro Counties in South Carolina. Future editions of this book will include deeds, plats and much more.

The enterprising publisher sold the rights in twenty countries, so “Why not just, ‘destined to become a classic?’” (Garth Risk Hallberg) And why must cultists tell the uninitiated it has nothing to do with Tom Cruise? Sibylla, an American-at-Oxford turned loose on London, finds herself trapped as a single mother after a misguided one-night stand. High-minded principles of child-rearing work disastrously well. J. S. Mill (taught Greek at three) and Yo Yo Ma (Bach at two) claimed the methods would work with any child; when these succeed with the boy Ludo, he causes havoc at school and is home again in a month. (Is he a prodigy, a genius? Readers looking over Ludo’s shoulder find themselves easily reading Greek and more.) Lacking male role models for a fatherless boy, Sibylla turns to endless replays of Kurosawa’s masterpiece Seven Samurai. But Ludo is obsessed with the one thing he wants and doesn’t know: his father’s name. At eleven, inspired by his own take on the classic film, he sets out on a secret quest for the father he never knew. He’ll be punched, sliced, and threatened with retribution. He may not live to see twelve. Or he may find a real samurai and save a mother who thinks boredom a fate worse than death.
