Book The New Testament Devotional Commentary Volume 1

Download or read book The New Testament Devotional Commentary Volume 1 written by Bo Giertz and published by New Reformation Publications. This book was released on 2021-11-16 with total page 546 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Bo Giertz was a serious biblical scholar who avoided the ivory tower. He studied classics in undergrad before taking up theology in preparation for the ministry. In 1930 he spent time on an archeological dig in Palestine and travelled the country with his exegetical professor Anton Fridrichsen who insisted on "Biblical Realism," which avoided fundamentalism and yet refused to succumb to higher criticism. In these commentaries, Bo Giertz takes what he learned from a lifetime of such study and application in in sermons and visits with people to open Scripture to anyone who wants to grow in their faith. He never avoids the hard questions concerning the texts, and yet tackles them in such a way as to restore confidence in God's word. Here, he is concerned with what the text meant to those who first wrote it and heard it so he can deliver the same goods to us today.

  • Pages : 306 pages

Download or read book Exploring Romans written by George R. Knight and published by Review and Herald Pub Assoc. This book was released on 2010 with total page 306 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Romans is one of the few books in the New Testament that was not composed as a pastoral response to specific, localized problems. Instead this letter was written primarily to challenge and ultimately correct widespread misunderstandings about Christianity held by mid-first-century believers. Some of these beliefs are embraced even now. Paul's central focus in Romans is the means of obtaining salvation. Point by point, he systematically builds his case by articulating who needs salvation and why, the role of the law, God's response to the sin problem, resolution of the legal issues presented by sin, and the effect each has on the Christian's life. This devotional commentary divides the entire text into short passages that are followed by a detailed, user-friendly exegetical explanation and practical application to everyday life. The lives of such men as Martin Luther and John Wesley, whose writings helped shape Western history, were changed by the study of Romans. It will change your life as well. Book jacket.

The Book of Psalms is known as the Bible’s songbook—Jesus knew all 150 psalms intimately, and relied on them to face every situation, including his death. Two decades ago, Tim Keller began reading the entire Book of Psalms every month. The Songs of Jesus is based on his accumulated years of study, insight, and inspiration recorded in his prayer journals. Kathy Keller came to reading the psalms as a support during an extended illness. Together they have distilled the meaning of each verse, inviting readers into the vast wisdom of the psalms. If you have no devotional life yet, this book is a wonderful way to start. If you already spend time in study and prayer, understanding every verse of the psalms will bring you a new level of intimacy with God, unlocking your purpose within God’s kingdom.
