Book excerpt: Niko Devlin was a street kid. When his father was called to duty and his mother made an invalid by a plague, Niko learned to survive by his wits. He stole what he needed to stay alive and fought to keep what he stole. Until he got arrested. On the eve of his majority birthday, Niko got laid off from his job and found out the son of the local crime lord had been selling his mom drugs and forcing her to "entertain" his friends. Facing jail time-and almost certain death-for beating the crime lord's son nearly to death, Niko is forced to join the military to get off world. The terms of his enlistment are such that he can't quit, so he hopes to fly under the radar and serve his time in a do-nothing job. That's his plan, anyway. But plans have a way of getting disrupted, and when the Devil is calling the tune, sometimes all you can do is sing along.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: When your worst enemy has your back…you know the mission is doomed from the start. Sergeant Osu Sybutu of the Legion had a simple mission. Take five men and travel unobserved to a location in the capital where he would deliver a coded phrase to a contact. Simple, that is, except for the fact that there was a war going on, and all the different factions he had to pass by on the way would cheerfully shoot him on sight. And that was only if the planet didn’t kill him first. Militia Sergeant Vetch Arunsen’s task, however, was far more complex. Shepherd a group of hated rivals across the frozen wastes, keeping them safe from everyone who wanted to kill them, which was pretty much everyone. Including the oddball troopers under Arunsen’s own command, who would happily shoot the Legion soldiers if given the slightest opportunity. Legion versus Militia. Joint defenders of the Federation. In theory. Their mutual loathing, however, could burn the armor plate off a battleship. For rival sergeants Sybutu and Arunsen, there’s only one way their squads could survive trekking across the iceworld of Rho-Torkis. Legion and Militia.

Book C G Jung and the Humanities

Download or read book C G Jung and the Humanities written by Karin Barnaby and published by Princeton University Press. This book was released on 2017-03-14 with total page 403 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: C. G. Jung has been and continues to be a pervasive yet often unacknowledged presence in twentieth-century art and intellectual life. This timely volume is the first comprehensive attempt to assess this presence and to demonstrate Jung's far-reaching cultural impact. The distinguished contributors represent a number of views, from traditional Jungian to the most contemporary post-Jungian stances, including feminist, non-Jungian, and anti-Jungian positions. Jung, as seen in this volume, addresses a wide range of contemporary issues related to creativity, gender, religion, popular culture, and hermeneutics. The essays reveal dimensions of his work that extend far beyond psychoanalytical theory and that show his hermeneutics to be a much more subtle and sophisticated methodology than previously allowed by his critics. This methodology appears, in fact, to have anticipated significant aspects of contemporary critical principles and practice. The contributors to the volume were among the participants in a major international conference sponsored by Hofstra University and the C. G. Jung Foundation of New York, held in 1986 at Hofstra University. They include Thomas Belmonte, Robert Bly, Joseph Campbell, Edward S. Casey, Stanley Diamond, Jean Erdman, Leslie Fiedler, James Hillman, Paul Kugler, Ibram Lassaw, Neil Levine, David L. Miller, Lucio Pozzi, Gilles Quispel, Robert Richenburg, Carol Schreier Rupprecht, Andrew Samuels, Harold Schechter, and June Singer. Originally published in 1990. The Princeton Legacy Library uses the latest print-on-demand technology to again make available previously out-of-print books from the distinguished backlist of Princeton University Press. These editions preserve the original texts of these important books while presenting them in durable paperback and hardcover editions. The goal of the Princeton Legacy Library is to vastly increase access to the rich scholarly heritage found in the thousands of books published by Princeton University Press since its founding in 1905.

Book Teen Victims of the Nazi Regime

Download or read book Teen Victims of the Nazi Regime written by Hallie Murray and published by Enslow Publishing, LLC. This book was released on 2018-07-15 with total page 130 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Though many teens and children did not fully understand what was happening in the early days of Adolf Hitler's reign, they certainly felt the effects of anti-Semitism. Students in Nazified schools were forced to perform the Hitler salute every day, and Jewish students were increasingly persecuted by teachers and peers alike. Friends turned against friends, and there was enormous pressure on young Gentiles to adhere to Hitler's racist policies, as Aryan teens were compelled and eventually forced to join the Hitler Youth or the League of German Girls. Students may find parallels between the pressure to conform in these groups and the echo chambers of social media. These stories of Nazi teens will spur discussion of the recruiting tactics and bonding rituals of racist groups in America today.

Book Forbidden Gospels The Devil s Cut

Download or read book Forbidden Gospels The Devil s Cut written by Randy Chandler and published by Red Room Press. This book was released on 2016-03-13 with total page 195 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Duet for the Devil was published October 1, 2000, by Necro Publications. Before that, bits and pieces of the unruly opus were published in various small-press magazines and indie journals, often in somewhat different forms. By the time the novel made it between hard covers, its length had been considerably shortened. Some significant characters were lost altogether as their scenes got the ax. Subsequently, much of the "lost" segments from Duet for the Devil were published by Jasmine Sailing as The Forbidden Gospels of Man-Cruel Volumes I & II. These modest chapbooks also contained several scenes as they appeared before they were edited or reworked for the novel. Forbidden Gospels: The Devil's Cut presents Volumes I & II as they originally appeared in chapbook form, including the introductions by Brian Hodge and Don Webb. Also included is an all new addition to the Gospels: "The Devil's Cut-Up." Then comes the Prophet of the Perverse section--a tribute, of sorts, to the late t. Winter-Damon. It also includes Damon's long and rambling preface to Duet for the Devil, which until now has only appeared in the Advanced Uncorrected Proof and on the Necro Publications website. Plus some of Damon's best poetry and several poems he wrote with award-wining poet Bruce Boston. This section also includes moving remembrances by some of the people whose lives were touched Damon. "Forbidden Gospels: The Devil's Cut is a literary remix of Duet For The Devil. If it were a movie, this would be the Director's Cut. But of course it's not a movie or a musical remix. It's damned book. The kind of book, according to one reviewer, that made a true book-lover throw the damned thing across the room. The dirty little secret is, that is exactly the reaction Damon and I wanted. The devil made us do it." --Randy Chandler Contributors and Acknowledgements: Jasmine Sailing, editor-publisher of Cyber-Psychos AOD Brian Hodge, contributing author Don Webb, contributing author Bruce Boston, poet and contributing author Peter H. And in doing so, Calt offers new insights into the nature of the blues, the world in which it thrived, and its fate when that world vanished.
