Book Private Proximity Detection on IOS Devices

Download or read book Private Proximity Detection on IOS Devices written by Anthony Sydney and published by . This book was released on 2014 with total page 322 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Location based services are becoming increasingly popular, due to the abundance of mobile devices that are equipped with global positioning systems, and Internet capabilities. However, many location-based services require users to waive their location privacy in exchange for better quality of service. As a result, users are reluctant to use such services, because they become less attractive when taking the potential privacy leaks under consideration [1]. In this thesis, we illustrate that a location-based service, such as proximity detection, can be implementeds securely using basic cryptographic primitives. We show that, with a private proximity detection protocol, two parties can discover whether they are spatially close while maintaining their locations secret.

Book BLE Beacons for Proximity Based and Location Based Services

Download or read book BLE Beacons for Proximity Based and Location Based Services written by Andrew Mackey and published by . This book was released on 2019 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In recent years, there has been a rapid growth in what is called Internet of Things (IoT). IoT can be described as the interconnectedness of all things, where we as people are able to interact with our physical environment using wireless communications. One of the core wireless technologies that has been a driving force in the growth of IoT is Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE). This thesis focuses on proximity-based and location-based services using BLE beacons and smartphone devices. Moreover, this thesis proposes that BLE beacons are capable of providing proximity and location-based services, both indoors and outdoors with a suitable level of precision and accuracy. Proximity and location using BLE beacons are realized using a Received Signal Strength Indicator (RSSI) technique. The results of numerous experiments provide sufficient evidence that BLE beacons are a viable and highly scalable option for such services in the framework of IoT.
