Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: First published in 1995, The Engineering Handbook quickly became the definitive engineering reference. Although it remains a bestseller, the many advances realized in traditional engineering fields along with the emergence and rapid growth of fields such as biomedical engineering, computer engineering, and nanotechnology mean that the time has come to bring this standard-setting reference up to date. New in the Second Edition 19 completely new chapters addressing important topics in bioinstrumentation, control systems, nanotechnology, image and signal processing, electronics, environmental systems, structural systems 131 chapters fully revised and updated Expanded lists of engineering associations and societies The Engineering Handbook, Second Edition is designed to enlighten experts in areas outside their own specialties, to refresh the knowledge of mature practitioners, and to educate engineering novices. Whether you work in industry, government, or academia, this is simply the best, most useful engineering reference you can have in your personal, office, or institutional library.

Book Advanced Concepts Methodologies and Technologies for Transportation and Logistics

Download or read book Advanced Concepts Methodologies and Technologies for Transportation and Logistics written by Jacek Żak and published by Springer. This book was released on 2017-07-03 with total page 477 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is a collection of original papers produced by the members of the Euro Working Group on Transportation (EWGT) in the last several years (2015–2017). The respective chapters present the results of various research projects carried out by the members of the EWGT and extended versions of presentations given at the last several meetings of the EWGT. The book offers a representative sampling of the EWGT’s research activities and covers the state-of-the-art in quantitative oriented transportation/logistics research. It highlights a range of advanced concepts, methodologies and technologies, divided into four major thematic streams: Multiple Criteria Analysis in Transportation and Logistics; Urban Transportation and City Logistics; Road Safety and Artificial Intelligence and Soft Computing in Transportation and Logistics. The book is intended for academics/researchers, analysts, business consultants, and graduate students who are interested in advanced techniques of mathematical modeling and computational procedures applied in transportation and logistics.

Book Evaluation of Adaptive Neural Network Models for Freeway Incident Detection

Download or read book Evaluation of Adaptive Neural Network Models for Freeway Incident Detection written by Dipti Srinivasan and published by . This book was released on 2018 with total page 20 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Automated incident detection is an essential component of a modern freeway traffic monitoring system. A number of neural network-based incident detection models have been tested independently over the past decade. This paper evaluates the adaptability of three promising neural network models for this problem: multi-layer feed-forward neural network (MLF), basic probabilistic neural network (BPNN) and constructive probabilistic neural network (CPNN). These three models have been developed on an original freeway site in Singapore and then adapted to a new freeway site in California. Apart from their incident detection performances, their adaptation strategies and network sizes have also been compared. Results of this study show that the MLF model has the best incident detection performance at the development site while CPNN model has the best performance after model adaptation at the new site. In addition, the adaptation method for CPNN model is relatively more automatic. The efficient network pruning procedure for the CPNN network resulted in a smaller network size, making it easier to implement it for real-time application. The results suggest that CPNN model has the highest potential for use in an operational automatic incident detection system for freeways.

Book Evaluation of Incident Detection Methodologies

Download or read book Evaluation of Incident Detection Methodologies written by Hani S. Mahmassani and published by . This book was released on 1999 with total page 22 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The detection of freeway incidents is an essential element of an area's traffic management system. Incidents need to be detected and handled as promptly as possible in order to minimize traffic delays. Various algorithms and detection technologies are examined to determine which combinations offer optimized detection performance. This study represents an effort to compile, compare, and rank available incident detection strategies.
