Book Development of School based Health Promotion for Adolescents Health in Indonesia

Download or read book Development of School based Health Promotion for Adolescents Health in Indonesia written by Nunik Kusumawardani and published by . This book was released on 2011 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Abstract : Global evidence clearly indicates that health-risk issues such as smoking, consumption of unhealthy food, physical inactivity, mental health problems, unintentional injury, unsafe sexual activity and alcohol and drug abuse are common in adolescents. In the long term, these health-risk issues relate to chronic disease, disability and premature death. An effective prevention strategy addressing the health risks among adolescents is important to improve the quality of life during adolescence and throughout adulthood, and school is an ideal setting to promote adolescents{u2019} health. School-based health promotion has been developed as both a global and a country strategy to prevent health risks among adolescents. In Indonesia, a school-based health program has evolved since 1960, with collaboration between the National Health and Education Ministries, as the two key stakeholders. However the participating Indonesian schools are still struggling to conduct health promotion activities with their students and the local school community. This was highlighted by a preliminary study in this research which demonstrated that only one out of nine junior high schools had actively implemented the school-based health promotion program. In addition, national figures for major health-risk behaviours among adolescents in Indonesia continue to show a higher proportion of smoking, bullying and unintentional injury compared to other countries in Asia. Evidence relating to the needs and challenges of key stakeholders in Indonesia to effectively implement a school-based health promotion is required urgently to support the development of policy to improve such programs. This thesis aimed to examine the needs and challenges confronting both the health and education sectors in implementing the school-based health promotion program in Indonesia. The research findings will inform the stakeholders in developing strategies to better and more effectively implement school-based health promotion programs in Indonesia. This research used a variety of methods including:1) a comprehensive needs assessment;2) a case study approach in two schools in Depok and 3) a secondary data analysis of Depok school-based health survey data from Indonesian Ministry of Health. Data was gathered using in-depth interviews, observation and group discussion in several settings, including Indonesia (in Jakarta and Depok), Australia (in Queensland) and China (in Guangzhou, Hong Kong and Macao).

Child and Adolescent Health and Development explores the benefits that accrue from sustained and targeted interventions across the first two decades of life. The volume outlines the investment case for effective, costed, and scalable interventions for low-resource settings, emphasizing the cross-sectoral role of education. This evidence base can guide policy makers in prioritizing actions to promote survival, health, cognition, and physical growth throughout childhood and adolescence.

This book was released on 2023-04-02 with total page 978 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is an open access book. The National Research and Innovation Agency (Acronymized in Bahasa as BRIN, Badan Riset and Inovasi Nasional), the Republic of Indonesia was launched in 2021 and has been the only one of Indonesia authorized research institution since. The Agency embodies throughout department and non-department research bodies in Indonesia and answers and thus responsible directly to the President of Indonesia. Despite its juvenile age, BRIN is in a tight competition with urgencies of untangling unresolved issues in various aspects in collective life as a nation and a state spanning socioeconomic and culture to medicine and its translational derivatives. To function as effectively as expected, BRIN has launched 12 research organizations with each is accountable for a specific research field as reflected by the expertise of the pertinent researchers. Among those, Research Organization for Health was established as an answer to the major challenge of overcoming national burdens which are holistically captured as the roadmaps of SDG’s Indonesia where Health stands specially as the top three priority and regarded as Good Health-Wellbeing. It is clear that what have been produced through long chain of processes in the research chambers must be driven forward and translated accordingly to reach downstream utilizations in such a way that the good health and well-being are reachable in any levels. As to manifesting these goals into realization, knowledge sharing is deemed to be a plausible vehicle. This enables disseminations of most current research projects related to health across research institution, regionally or globally. Therefore, we see the need to organize our very first international conference that is, further, set as one of our annual events with contemporary umbrella themes. We welcome researchers, scholars, and practitioners in health and health-related fields to share their insightful research results in our conference. The general objective of BRIN’s 1st International Conference for Health (ICHR) is to facilitate dissemination and exchange of most recent progresses made across research institutions and to promote prospectus multi-nationals and or multi-institutional collaborations to achieve the good-health and well-being.

Book Developing a Young Adolescent Health Project to Provide Primary and Preventive Services in Schools

Download or read book Developing a Young Adolescent Health Project to Provide Primary and Preventive Services in Schools written by Gail Reynolds and published by . This book was released on 1996 with total page 60 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This practicum promoted community, school, and agency collaborative relationships to increase the access and affordability of comprehensive, culturally acceptable health care services and health promotion activities. The target population for these services and activities were high-risk, minority adolescents in grades 6 through 8 in two elementary schools serving Latino, African-American, Caucasian, and Asian-American students, including several immigrants. The primary partners were the local health center, Planned Parenthood, and school personnel. Public school nursing staff facilitated health assessments and access for students who needed services. The 8-month school-based Young Adolescent Health Project included health screenings, appointments, advocacy, transportation, education, dental and vision care, laboratory tests, management of chronic illnesses, gynecological/reproductive services, and individual counseling. Workshops and peer health education were used to teach health-promoting behavior. Additional strategies used to address issues of accessibility, availability, affordability, and acceptability included nontraditional outreach, a data management system, and the employment of bilingual and bicultural staff, with selected eighth graders serving on an advisory council. Evaluation of the project indicated that health assessments identified many unmet physical health needs of young adolescents. Identified mental health needs were addressed by counselors in the School Based Youth Service Program. Overall, this project resulted in increased accessibility to health care for this population. Subsequently, an information management system was developed to allow service providers to share relevant information about the medical needs of identified students, and existing relationships among partners were strengthened. (Six appendices include a Health History Assessment, Treatment Plan Contact Sheet, and a Parent Consent Form. Contains 36 references.) (kb).

Book Adolescent nutrition in Indonesia What have we learned

Download or read book Adolescent nutrition in Indonesia What have we learned written by Go, Ara and published by Intl Food Policy Res Inst. This book was released on 2020-12-29 with total page 4 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Investments in adolescent health have the potential to influence the future course of global health by improving the health and nutritional status of adolescents themselves, their life trajectories in adulthood, and the lives of their future children (1,2). Despite the growing recognition of the importance of adolescent health and nutrition (1–6), very few policies and programs have been designed and imple-mented to improve adolescent nutrition especially in low- and middle-income countries. There is also little evidence on how to effectively address the health and nutrition needs of adolescents from well-designed program effectiveness studies. Having a clear understanding of the nutritional problems of adolescents, and the drivers of those problems are prerequisites to developing appropriate policies and programs to improve adolescent nutrition, health and well-being. This brief offers a concise overview of the key nutritional challenges among Indonesian adolescents and current policies and programs to address these challenges. It also highlights other programs and policies to consider based on regional and international experiences.

Book Making every school a health promoting school

Download or read book Making every school a health promoting school written by and published by World Health Organization. This book was released on 2021-04-27 with total page 74 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: No education system is effective unless it promotes the health and well-being of its students, staff and community. These strong links have never been more visible and compelling than in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic. A health-promoting school (HPS) approach was introduced over 25 years ago and has been promoted globally since; however, the aspiration of a fully embedded, sustainable HPS system has not yet been achieved, and very few countries have implemented and sustained the approach at scale. How can we make every school a health-promoting school, and how can we implement, sustain and scale up the approach at country level, particularly in low- and middle-income countries? All stakeholders involved in identifying, planning, funding, implementing, monitoring and evaluating the HPS approach will find some answers in this publication, which summarizes the experiences of eight countries spread across the world.

Book Handbook of Growth and Growth Monitoring in Health and Disease

Download or read book Handbook of Growth and Growth Monitoring in Health and Disease written by Victor R. Preedy and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2011-12-02 with total page 3113 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Growth is one of the human body’s most intricate processes: each body part or region has its own unique growth patterns. Yet at the individual and population levels, growth patterns are sensitive to adverse conditions, genetic predispositions, and environmental changes. And despite the body’s capacity to compensate for these developmental setbacks, the effects may be far-reaching, even life-long. The Handbook of Growth and Growth Monitoring in Health and Disease brings this significant and complex field together in one comprehensive volume: impact of adverse variables on growth patterns; issues at different stages of prenatal development, childhood, and adolescence; aspects of catch-up growth, endocrine regulation, and sexual maturation; screening and assessment methods; and international perspectives. Tables and diagrams, applications to other areas of health and disease, and summary points help make the information easier to retain. Together, these 140 self-contained chapters in 15 sections [ok?] cover every area of human growth, including: Intrauterine growth retardation. Postnatal growth in normal and abnormal situations. Cells and growth of tissues. Sensory growth and development. Effects of disease on growth. Methods and standards for assessment of growth, and more. The Handbook of Growth and Growth Monitoring in Health and Disease is an invaluable addition to the reference libraries of a wide range of health professionals, among them health scientists, physicians, physiologists, nutritionists, dieticians, nurses, public health researchers, epidemiologists, exercise physiologists, and physical therapists. It is also useful to college-level students and faculty in the health disciplines, and to policymakers and health economists.
