Book Development of Optimal Pricing Strategy for Perishable Products

Download or read book Development of Optimal Pricing Strategy for Perishable Products written by Srikanta Routroy and published by . This book was released on 2011 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Perishable products are now becoming more perishable due to an increase in the rate of technology innovation, changing customer behavior and increase in the number of competitors. Therefore, managing perishable products in the supply chain is quite difficult, and enhancing profit in perishable supply chain is not easy. As demand for perishable products is dependent on price, developing a pricing strategy is an important issue. In this paper, a generic model is proposed for one stage of perishable supply chain in a dynamic pricing environment, for developing pricing strategy in order to maximize profit. Genetic algorithm toolbox in MATLAB 7.8 is used to solve the problem.

Book Dynamic Pricing and Advertising of Perishable Products with Inventory Holding Costs

Download or read book Dynamic Pricing and Advertising of Perishable Products with Inventory Holding Costs written by Rainer Schlosser and published by . This book was released on 2015 with total page 33 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We examine a special class of dynamic pricing and advertising models for the sale of perishable goods, including marginal unit costs and inventory holding costs. The time horizon is assumed to be finite and we allow several model parameters to be dependent on time. For the stochastic version of the model, we derive closed-form expressions of the value function as well as of the optimal pricing and advertising policy in feedback form. Moreover, we show that for small unit shares, the model converges to a deterministic version of the problem, whose explicit solution is characterized by an overage and an underage case. We quantify the close relationship between the open-loop solution of the deterministic model and the expected evolution of optimally controlled stochastic sales processes. For both models, we derive sensitivity results. We find that in the case of positive holding costs, on average, optimal prices increase in time and advertising rates decrease. Furthermore, we analytically verify the excellent quality of optimal feedback policies of deterministic models applied in stochastic models.

Book Pricing and Revenue Optimization

Download or read book Pricing and Revenue Optimization written by Robert Phillips and published by Stanford University Press. This book was released on 2005-08-05 with total page 470 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the first comprehensive introduction to the concepts, theories, and applications of pricing and revenue optimization. From the initial success of "yield management" in the commercial airline industry down to more recent successes of markdown management and dynamic pricing, the application of mathematical analysis to optimize pricing has become increasingly important across many different industries. But, since pricing and revenue optimization has involved the use of sophisticated mathematical techniques, the topic has remained largely inaccessible to students and the typical manager. With methods proven in the MBA courses taught by the author at Columbia and Stanford Business Schools, this book presents the basic concepts of pricing and revenue optimization in a form accessible to MBA students, MS students, and advanced undergraduates. In addition, managers will find the practical approach to the issue of pricing and revenue optimization invaluable. Solutions to the end-of-chapter exercises are available to instructors who are using this book in their courses. For access to the solutions manual, please contact [email protected].

Book An Optimal Delivery Strategy for Multi perishable Products Through Supply Chain Network

Download or read book An Optimal Delivery Strategy for Multi perishable Products Through Supply Chain Network written by Saleh Yahya Alghamdi and published by . This book was released on 2018 with total page 104 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The optimization of delivery plan is a critical issue, especially for multiple perishable products in any profitable organization. This paper develops a model for the efficient implementation of supply chain systems for multiple perishable products. The mathematical model developed maximizes the profit while taking into consideration shelf life and the cost of transportation. The price or value of products is affected by its remaining shelf-life. An optimal delivery plan is developed based on shelf-life, time to transport the perishable products within the network reaching to retailer, while including the minimization of transportation cost in the model. In addition, the optimal delivery plan identifies the right quantity of each type of perishable products to be delivered. In this research, a mathematical model is utilized for solving the multi-objective mathematical problem, which includes revenue maximization, and minimization of transportation models to perform an optimal delivery plan. This paper’s central aim is to maximize the gross profit while identifying the best delivery method for multiple perishable products.

Book Price Management

Download or read book Price Management written by Hermann Simon and published by Springer. This book was released on 2018-12-11 with total page 569 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this book, the world’s foremost experts on pricing integrate theoretical rigor and practical application to present a comprehensive resource that covers all areas of the field. This volume brings together quantitative and qualitative approaches and highlights the most current innovations in theory and practice. Going beyond the traditional constraints of “price theory” and “price policy,” the authors coined the term “price management” to represent a holistic approach to pricing strategy and tactical implementation. They remind us that the Ancient Romans used one word, pretium, to mean both price and value. This is the fundamental philosophy that drives successful price management where producer and customer meet. Featuring dozens of examples and case studies drawn from their extensive research, consulting, and teaching around the world, Simon and Fassnacht cover all aspects of pricing following the price management process with its four phases: strategy, analysis, decision, and implementation. Thereby, the authors take into account the nuances across industry sectors, including consumer goods, industrial products, services, and trade/distribution. In particular, they address the implications of technological advancements, such as the Internet and new measurement and sensor technologies that have led to a wealth of price management innovations, such as flat rates, freemium, pay-per-use, or pay-what-you-want. They also address the emergence of new price metrics, Big Data applications, two-sided price systems, negative prices, and the sharing economy, as well as emerging payment systems such as bitcoin. The result is a “bible” for leaders who recognize that price is not only a means to drive profit in the short term, but a tool to generate sustained growth in shareholder value over the longer term, and a primer for researchers, instructors, and students alike. Praise for Price Management “This book is truly state of the art and the most comprehensive work in price management.” - Prof. Philip Kotler, Kellogg School of Management, Northwestern University “This very important book builds an outstanding bridge between science and practice.“ - Kasper Rorsted, CEO, Adidas “This book provides practical guidelines on value creation, communication and management, which is an imperative for businesses to survive in the coming era of uncertainty.” - Dr. Chang-Gyu Hwang, Chairman and CEO, KT Corporation (Korea Telecom)

Book Supply Chain System for Perishable Products issues Models and Strategies

Download or read book Supply Chain System for Perishable Products issues Models and Strategies written by Mutlib Algannas and published by . This book was released on 2016 with total page 120 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This dissertation develops a multi-objective framework for optimal replenishment strategy for perishable product to optimize revenue and transportation costs considering shelf life and delivery planning objectives under varying price scenario. Varying prices restrictions of shelf life time for product is introduced into this model to maximize the total profit of supply chain for perishable product. Using the frameworks developed, optimal delivery schedules for perishable products when the product prices vary based on the deteriorated or remaining shelf life of the product are determined. In this dissertation, mixed integer nonlinear (MINLP) mathematical models are developed for multi-objective problems with an objective to maximize revenue while taking into consideration shelf life, and minimization of transportation cost in order to determine the best schedule for delivery. The objective of the next research is in the study of location-allocation of depots for the development of supply chains of perishable products in which the prices depend on the time of delivery. This study developed models with an objective to maximize revenue while determining the need for adding new depots in order to minimize the total cost of the supply chain while meeting the due dates for delivery of the perishable product. MINLP models are developed for maximization of revenue while taking into consideration shelf life, the costs associated with depots, and minimization of transportation cost while meeting due dates for delivery. The last research objective in this dissertation develops a multi-objective optimal replenishment strategy for perishable product to optimize revenue and transportation costs considering shelf life and flexible customer demands. This research extends the initial objective to include demand profiles for multiple days for each retailer with an objective to maximize the total profit of the supply chain for perishable product.

Book Optimal Pricing for the Growth of Innovations with Direct Network Externalities

Download or read book Optimal Pricing for the Growth of Innovations with Direct Network Externalities written by Mohammad G. Nejad and published by . This book was released on 2013 with total page 32 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Purpose - This study explores optimal pricing strategies for innovations with direct network externalities. The utility of these innovations increases with the number of adopters and thus the innovation takeoff requires a certain number of adopters. Design/methodology/approach - Agent-based Modeling and Simulation.Findings - The relationship between price and NPV of revenue resembles an asymmetric inverse U-shape. Low-pricing strategy outperforms high-pricing, while a moderate pricing strategy outperforms both low- and high-pricing strategies. Moreover, heterogeneity of consumer price sensitivity positively affects NPV of sales.Practical implications - Pricing durable new products with network externalities are more challenging than other types of innovations. The price pattern of most new durable products are out of the control of firms and historical data indicates that the price of such innovations drops over time which further highlights the importance of their introductory pricing. The results indicate that firms can maximize their NPV by adopting a moderate pricing strategy. Moreover, firms must consider heterogeneity of consumer price sensitivity along with the market price elasticity when making pricing decisions. Detailed strategic implications and recommendations are discussed.Originality/value - Several recent studies have called for studying pricing strategies for new products with network externalities. The study findings challenge the common wisdom that a penetration pricing strategy is an optimal approach for durable products with network externalities. Moreover, while other studies have highlighted the importance of market price elasticity, extensive simulation experiments conducted in this study shows that heterogeneity of consumer price sensitivity is an important factor that must be considered. Finally, the study presents an agent-based modeling approach for exploring optimal pricing innovations with network externalities.

Book Optimal Pricing Inflation and the Cost of Price Adjustment

Download or read book Optimal Pricing Inflation and the Cost of Price Adjustment written by Eytan Sheshinski and published by MIT Press. This book was released on 1993 with total page 546 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: These collected articles constitute what is perhaps the definitive study of pricing models under inflation, providing a solid basis for further research on this elusive question. What are the real effects of inflation? These collected articles constitute what is perhaps the definitive study of pricing models under inflation, providing a solid basis for further research on this elusive question. Covering a broad range of theory and applications by well-known microeconomists, the eighteen contributions evaluate the effects of inflation on aggregate output and on welfare and reveal the scope of recent efforts to explicitly incorporate frictions in economic models. A basic building block common to most of the essays in this volume is the observation that individual firms change nominal prices intermittently. The frequency and size of nominal price changes are influenced by the cost of price adjustment and changes in the economic environment, production costs, market demand, market structure, and most important, inflation. Thus the degree of nominal rigidity is influenced by the economic environment, and in a dynamic context. Two introductory essays survey the empirical studies of pricing policies by individual firms and the theoretical efforts to integrate the nominal rigidities at the micro level into macro relationships. The essays that follow treat the general problem of optimal dynamic adjustment in the presence of convex costs of adjustment, include applications of the inventory models to the case of nominal price adjustment by an individual firm, address the question of aggregation, introduce active search by consumers, and provide empirical analysis of nominal price rigidities.

Book Pricing Of Products Services

Download or read book Pricing Of Products Services written by Tridib Mazumbar and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2020-12-15 with total page 377 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The price of a product or a service is a critical element of the marketing mix. Price influences product demand, and the firm's revenue and profits. Prices also signal product quality and value, customer self-image, and the seller's pricing practices. With appropriate balance of theory, applications, and analytics, this book provides business students and practitioners the tools to make profitable pricing decisions under a variety of real-life contexts — current and emerging.Theoretical foundations for pricing decisions come from microeconomics, psychology, and behavioral decision theories. Well-established economic principles, with available data and analytics, help firms customize prices based on customers' willingness to pay, quantity purchased, timing and urgency of purchase, and by bundling their products and services. Pricing and promotional strategies of firms are further informed by the consideration of consumer psychology as well as the decision rules that consumers employ in framing of and responding to prices. As a practical step-by-step guide for firms, the book presents a comprehensive framework for pricing decisions. The framework illustrates how firms' pricing decisions are shaped by customer valuation of the product or service, firm cost, and competition within the category. Additional considerations include: channel arrangements, legal and regulatory limits, public sentiments, and the overriding strategy for the firm. Short cases and numerical examples help illustrate how these factors can be incorporated in firm making decisions. In addition to offering the theoretical foundation and practical guidelines for pricing, there are several distinctive features of the book.Pedagogically, the book takes a quantitative approach to pricing decisions and places a special emphasis on the utilization of data and analytics. Nevertheless, sound intuition and judgments remain a prerequisite.

Book Confessions of the Pricing Man

Download or read book Confessions of the Pricing Man written by Hermann Simon and published by Springer. This book was released on 2015-10-20 with total page 231 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The world’s foremost expert on pricing strategy shows how this mysterious process works and how to maximize value through pricing to company and customer. In all walks of life, we constantly make decisions about whether something is worth our money or our time, or try to convince others to part with their money or their time. Price is the place where value and money meet. From the global release of the latest electronic gadget to the bewildering gyrations of oil futures to markdowns at the bargain store, price is the most powerful and pervasive economic force in our day-to-day lives and one of the least understood. The recipe for successful pricing often sounds like an exotic cocktail, with equal parts psychology, economics, strategy, tools and incentives stirred up together, usually with just enough math to sour the taste. That leads managers to water down the drink with hunches and rules of thumb, or leave out the parts with which they don’t feel comfortable. While this makes for a sweeter drink, it often lacks the punch to have an impact on the customer or on the business. It doesn’t have to be that way, though, as Hermann Simon illustrates through dozens of stories collected over four decades in the trenches and behind the scenes. A world-renowned speaker on pricing and a trusted advisor to Fortune 500 executives, Simon’s lifelong journey has taken him from rural farmers’ markets, to a distinguished academic career, to a long second career as an entrepreneur and management consultant to companies large and small throughout the world. Along the way, he has learned from Nobel Prize winners and leading management gurus, and helped countless managers and executives use pricing as a way to create new markets, grow their businesses and gain a sustained competitive advantage. He also learned some tough personal lessons about value, how people perceive it, and how people profit from it. In this engaging and practical narrative, Simon leaves nothing out of the pricing cocktail, but still makes it go down smoothly and leaves you wanting to learn more and do more—as a consumer or as a business person. You will never look at pricing the same way again.

Book Behavioral Consequences of Dynamic Pricing

Download or read book Behavioral Consequences of Dynamic Pricing written by David Prakash and published by BoD – Books on Demand. This book was released on 2022-08-19 with total page 155 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Digital technologies are driving the application of dynamic pricing. Today, this pricing strategy is used not only for perishable products such as flights or hotel rooms, but for almost any product or service category. With dynamic pricing, retailers frequently adjust their prices over time to respond to factors such as demand, their supply and that of competitors, or the time of sale. Additionally, dynamic pricing allows retailers to take advantage of a large share of consumers' willingness to pay while avoiding losses from unsold products. Ultimately, this can lead to an increase in revenue and profit. However, the application of dynamic pricing comes with great challenges. In addition to the technological implementation, companies have to take into account that dynamic pricing can cause complex and unintended behavioral consequences on the consumer side. The key objective of this dissertation is to provide a deeper understanding of the impact of dynamic pricing on consumer behavior. To this end, this dissertation presents insights from four perspectives. First, how reference prices as a critical component in purchase decisions are operationalized. Second, how customers search for products priced dynamically, differentiated by business and private customers, as well as by different devices used for the search. Third, whether and how dynamic pricing influences the impact of internal reference prices on purchase decisions. Finally, this dissertation demonstrates that consumers perceive price changes as personalized in different purchase contexts, leading to reduced perceptions of fairness and undesirable behavioral consequences.
