Book An Acoustical Imaging System for the Inspection of Solid Rocket Motors

Download or read book An Acoustical Imaging System for the Inspection of Solid Rocket Motors written by L. J. Busse and published by . This book was released on 1984 with total page 59 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report describes the development and operation of an acoustical imaging, nondestructive test system for the inspection of small rocket motors. This report is intended to document the accomplishments of the program, the theoretical background, and the operational characteristics of the inspection system. The major objective of this program was to develop an acoustical imaging, nondestructive testing system for small rocket motors (i.e., 13-20 cm diameter). This inspection system was to be capable of detecting two types of defects within these rocket motors: (1) internal defects of inner-bore cracks; and (2) separations or debond between the various layers making up the wall of the rocket motor. The system was shown to be capable of detecting all of the flaw types it was originally designed to detect: (1) case/liner debonds; (2) liner/propellant debonds; and (3) inner-bore cracks. Case/liner debonds are reliably detected using the chirp frequency debond test, and the other two flaws are evident using the low frequency transmission test.

Book Ultrasonic and Advanced Methods for Nondestructive Testing and Material Characterization

Download or read book Ultrasonic and Advanced Methods for Nondestructive Testing and Material Characterization written by C. H. Chen and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2007 with total page 682 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Ultrasonic methods have been very popular in nondestructive testing and characterization of materials. This book deals with both industrial ultrasound and medical ultrasound. The advantages of ultrasound include flexibility, low cost, in-line operation, and providing data in both signal and image formats for further analysis. The book devotes 11 chapters to ultrasonic methods. However, ultrasonic methods can be much less effective with some applications. So the book also has 14 chapters catering to other or advanced methods for nondestructive testing or material characterization. Topics like structural health monitoring, Terahertz methods, X-ray and thermography methods are presented. Besides different sensors for nondestructive testing, the book places much emphasis on signal/image processing and pattern recognition of the signals acquired.

Book The Selection and Demonstration of Advanced Nondestructive Testing Techniques for On Site Missile Inspection Volume II Appendices

Download or read book The Selection and Demonstration of Advanced Nondestructive Testing Techniques for On Site Missile Inspection Volume II Appendices written by H. P. Briar and published by . This book was released on 1973 with total page 168 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The report describes a program planned around the problem of on-site non-destructive testing (NDT) of solid rocket motors. It was designed to select, evaluate, and demonstrate NDT capabilities, beginning with comprehensive surveys of industry and the world's literature (from 1960 to mid-1972). Only two techniques showed promise: Ultrasonic holography and gamma radiography. In the ensuing developments ASPC evaluated two ultrasonic systems. The first, modified ultrasonic holography, was developed from known principals of holography and ultrasound transmission through materials. The theoretical resolution of this system ranges between 0.4 in. and 1 in. at a depth of 18 in. into the propellant. The second system, acoustic profilography, uses the principal of diffraction to measure the shortest path across a secant of the motor. (Modified author abstract).

Book Measurements and Analysis of Solid propellant rocket Vibrations Obtained During a Captive Flight

Download or read book Measurements and Analysis of Solid propellant rocket Vibrations Obtained During a Captive Flight written by James A. Schoenster and published by . This book was released on 1971 with total page 52 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As part of an overall program to investigate the vibrational environment of small solid-propellant rockets, a captive test firing of a Nike rocket with a boilerplate payload was conducted in a unique test stand which, while restraining the total vehicle displacement, allowed substantial freedom for the test vehicle to vibrate. Measurements were obtained of the vibratory accelerations, pressures in the rocket case, rocket-case strains, and total vehicle displacement and data are presented. A discussion of the analytical procedures used to interpret random phenomena is presented.
