Book Development of a Shock tube Driven Molecular Beam

Download or read book Development of a Shock tube Driven Molecular Beam written by George T. Skinner and published by . This book was released on 1961 with total page 78 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The preliminary development of a high intensity molecular beam, in which a small tailored interface hypersonic shock-tunnel is used as the gas source, is reported. The aim is to extend molecular beam techniques into the 1-10 e.v. per particle range by utilizing the capability of the shock tube to generate high temperatures. A 0.7 e.v. nitrogen beam was produced in the pilot apparatus. The intensity of 2.5 x 10 to the 18th power molecules 1/sq.cm./sec. and the spreading angle of 6 deg agree with a theoretical analysis which takes into account attenuation caused by scattered molecules which have been thermally accommodated at the walls of the apparatus. A modified Kantrowitz-Grey system is used to obtain the high-energy beam.

Book The Cal Shock tube driven Molecular Beam Engineering Details and Survey Data

Download or read book The Cal Shock tube driven Molecular Beam Engineering Details and Survey Data written by George T. Skinner and published by . This book was released on 1969 with total page 61 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The design considerations, engineering details, and beam survey data relevant to a shock-tube-driven molecular beam are presented in detail in this report. The survey data are for an N2 beam with a kinetic energy per molecule of 1.3 ev, and two Ar beams of 1.4 and 2.2 ev. The spreading angles of these beams are of the order of 1 degree. Sufficient engineering details are presented to show how all the elements of the apparatus, including a target beam, function and how they are synchronized with the firing of the shock tube. (Author).

Book The Cal Shock tube driven Molecular Beam Target Beam and Mass Spectrometer

Download or read book The Cal Shock tube driven Molecular Beam Target Beam and Mass Spectrometer written by and published by . This book was released on 1969 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The development of an intermittent target beam system for use in conjunction with the CAL shock-tube-driven molecular beam is reported. The beam is 1 inch in diameter and has a density of approximately 4 x 10 to the 12th particles/cu cm. A room-temperature source is used. The operation of a mass spectrometer in the environment of a 2.14 ev argon beam has also been studied and it has been found necessary to employ extensive shielding of the instrument from residual ionization, radiation and background scattering. (Author).

Book Molecular Beam Technique for Recording Chemical Species Behind Incident Shock Waves

Download or read book Molecular Beam Technique for Recording Chemical Species Behind Incident Shock Waves written by St Arndt and published by . This book was released on 1981 with total page 7 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It is the purpose of the present paper to develop a molecular beam technique for recording continuously the concentration of chemical species behind the incident shock wave in a shock tube. The sample is drawn through a diverging nozzle located at the end of the low pressure section of the shock tube. The inlet diamters of the nozzles are 1-4 mm. It is assumed that the expansion is so fast that freezing of chemical reactions occurs. With a skimmer a molecular beam is formed which is analyzed with a quadruopole mass filter. Preliminary experiments were performed with N2 and binary mixtures of N2 and O2 at initial pressures between 1 mbar and 10 mbar and at Mach numbers ranging from M(s) = 6 to M(s) = 12. Experimental results are compared with intensities which are determined theoretically assuming a Maxwellian distribution function behind the incident shock.
