Book Integrated Conceptual Cost Estimating and Life Cycle Costing System for Building Projects

Download or read book Integrated Conceptual Cost Estimating and Life Cycle Costing System for Building Projects written by Ahmad Jrade and published by . This book was released on 2004 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Cost estimates are considered the most important and critical mission during the life cycle of a construction project. Preparing reliable and accurate estimates to help decision makers is the most challenging assignment that cost engineers and estimators can face. For decades, the construction industry focused on acquiring the construction costs of building facilities, neglecting the associated costs of running and maintaining them. Currently, by contrast, owners are interested in investigating the economics of facility management, which are the cost of owning and operating the building over its useful life. This thesis presents a methodology that can be used for an integrated conceptual cost estimating and life-cycle costing system for building projects. The methodology describes the development and implementation of a system that automates the preparation of conceptual cost estimates and forecasts future costs of running building projects. This methodology does so by joining Computer Integrated Construction (CIC) and Virtual Reality Environment (VRE). The system integrates relational databases, a preliminary estimate module, an AutoCAD module, a global module, a cost estimate forecasting and decision support-system modules, and life-cycle costing and sensitivity analysis modules. A modification in building design will result in an automatic generation of a new conceptual estimate. Subsequently, this modified drawing can be virtually animated and visualized by using a Virtual Reality browser. Finally, once capital costs are identified, the system forecasts the cost of running and maintaining the new building during its expected service life. Then, after assigning the range of deviation, it applies a sensitivity analysis method to investigate the most sensitive parameters so that further attention can be directed. Designing the system in a user-friendly environment allows owners and decision makers to envision the feasibility of new building projects within their anticipated life cycle. Moreover, it assists architects and cost engineers to generate conceptual cost estimates in a dynamic environment. A numerical example is presented to illustrate the usefulness and capabilities of the developed system.

Book Developing A Body Of Knowledge For Green Construction Project Management

Download or read book Developing A Body Of Knowledge For Green Construction Project Management written by Amos Darko and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2024-09-10 with total page 676 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Growing global imperatives to address sustainability concerns have boosted the importance and prominence of green construction projects worldwide. However, project managers may lack the specialist knowledge and/or technical skills to overcome the unique challenges to successfully deliver suitably sustainable green projects. This book aims to address this shortfall by unearthing, refining and synergising the hitherto scattered gems of experiential and theoretical knowledge, into a unified Body of Knowledge for green construction project management.Comprising both conceptual principles as well as practical case studies, this book for the first time assembles, structures and consolidates a comprehensive body of knowledge for green construction project management that addresses the unique aspects of this critical domain. It will fulfil a now critical need: equipping industry practitioners, researchers and students with the core project management knowledge and skills needed to successfully deliver green construction projects. It is a must-read for anyone who seeks to develop core green construction project management knowledge and skills, and those intending to move into green construction project management.

Book Preliminary Cost Estimating for Highway Construction Projects

Download or read book Preliminary Cost Estimating for Highway Construction Projects written by Albert F Kaminsky (Jr) and published by . This book was released on 1986 with total page 137 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A preliminary cost estimating procedure was developed using historical highway construction project bid data for the State of Alabama Highway Department (AHD). The preliminary cost estimating procedure developed requires only project length and preliminary engineering estimates of material quantity to calculate a project cost. This procedure has specific application in estimating future project costs for budgeting purposes. The procedure developed relied upon the fact that ninety percent of the bid total cost was comprised on one-third or less of the bid pay items. The dominance of a bid by specific pay items applies to large and small projects alike. The geographic location within the State of Alabama has a negligible effect upon the cost estimating procedure. The application of the preliminary cost estimating procedure to three distinctly different types of construction projects examined in this research confirm its usefulness. The preliminary cost estimating procedure developed for the AHD is workable and can be applied to a wide range of highway construction and maintenance projects. (Author).

Book Standards for Internal Control in the Federal Government

Download or read book Standards for Internal Control in the Federal Government written by United States Government Accountability Office and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2019-03-24 with total page 88 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Policymakers and program managers are continually seeking ways to improve accountability in achieving an entity's mission. A key factor in improving accountability in achieving an entity's mission is to implement an effective internal control system. An effective internal control system helps an entity adapt to shifting environments, evolving demands, changing risks, and new priorities. As programs change and entities strive to improve operational processes and implement new technology, management continually evaluates its internal control system so that it is effective and updated when necessary. Section 3512 (c) and (d) of Title 31 of the United States Code (commonly known as the Federal Managers' Financial Integrity Act (FMFIA)) requires the Comptroller General to issue standards for internal control in the federal government.
