Book Design and Testing of a Prototype High Speed Data Acquisition System for NASA

Download or read book Design and Testing of a Prototype High Speed Data Acquisition System for NASA written by Vishwas T. Vijayendra and published by . This book was released on 2011 with total page 106 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Modern radar and signal processing applications require data acquisition systems capable of high-speed analog data reception and processing. These systems need to support sophisticated signal processing algorithms and reliable high-speed interfaces. The objective of this project is to develop a prototype of a state of the art data acquisition system to aid NASA's Surface Water and Ocean Topography (SWOT) mission. The SWOT mission aims at monitoring water levels of various water bodies to predict and avoid any catastrophic events. The principal instrument is a Ka-band Radar Interferometer (KaRIN) that is used for the measurement of water levels. The collected data need to be digitized and processed using an FPGA based-data acquisition system housed in a satellite. The scope of this project involves the design, implementation and test of a high-speed printed circuit board (PCB) that serves as the prototype data acquisition system. A lot of emphasis is placed on layout design, as the PCB needs to support data rates up to three Giga samples per second. The goal of this research is to provide Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL), NASA with a prototype version of the high-speed acquisition system that can be integrated with the KaRIN system in future.

Book High Speed Data Acquisition for the High Pressure Laboratory

Download or read book High Speed Data Acquisition for the High Pressure Laboratory written by and published by . This book was released on 1993 with total page 9 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report discusses menu driven 16-bit data acquisition system has been developed to accept data at a maximum rate of two thousand samples per second. With a maximum of eight separate channels, calibrated prior to running a test, real-time plots are shown on the monitor as data are stored on the hard disk. After an experimental run, hard copies may be obtained with a plotter by running a separate program called Graph.

Book Data Acquisition for Sensor Systems

Download or read book Data Acquisition for Sensor Systems written by H.R. Taylor and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 1997-04-30 with total page 348 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: 'Data acquisition' is concerned with taking one or more analogue signals and converting them to digital form with sufficient accu racy and speed to be ready for processing by a computer. The increasing use of computers makes this an expanding field, and it is important that the conversion process is done correctly because information lost at this stage can never be regained, no matter how good the computation. The old saying - garbage in, garbage out - is very relevant to data acquisition, and so every part of the book contains a discussion of errors: where do they come from, how large are they, and what can be done to reduce them? The book aims to treat the data acquisition process in depth with less detailed chapters on the fundamental principles of measure ment, sensors and signal conditioning. There is also a chapter on software packages, which are becoming increasingly popular. This is such a rapidly changing topic that any review of available pro grams is bound to be out of date before the book reaches the read ers. For this reason, I have described the data handling which is available in various types of program and left it to the reader to select from whatever is on the market at the time.

Book Development of a Low cost Reconfigurable Data Acquisition System

Download or read book Development of a Low cost Reconfigurable Data Acquisition System written by Christo Semmelink and published by . This book was released on 2016 with total page 366 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the information age, organisations have used technology to obtain valuable information on operational processes. It is essential for organisations to closely monitor their overall production performance in order to identify any need for corrective action. Micro managing key performance parameters through a monitoring system could identify opportunities for improvement which would otherwise be invisible. Analysing internal processes have continuously inspired new and creative methods of remaining competitive. Data analysis is now vital to organisations and much research effort has been invested into developing techniques for translating data into valuable competitive knowledge. Without reliable data to analyse, some organisations are at a disadvantage, investing in sensor technologies and acquiring the expertise to implement high technological systems are generally too expensive for small and medium sized organisations to consider as an investment option. This research aimed to test common off -the-shelf components with plug and play functionality for data acquisition purposes. It is thus the aim of this research to develop a low-cost production performance monitoring system with reconfigurable characteristics that would be applicable to various operations. It is essential that the monitoring system be capable of providing feedback information of the production system performance, which would be required for strategic planning.
