Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Success in global markets means faster time to market, sharper response to customer needs, and better value. To be a world-class competitor, you must do this while expending fewer product development resources per project and while increasing the efficiency with which those resources are deployed. In this book, two international experts show you how the "champions" manage robust product development operations. Recounting the key findings of five years of researching, benchmarking, and working with scores of the world's most competitive companies, they crystallize the workings of a new system of managing fast product development in the '90s. The companies benchmarked were chosen because of their fast cycle times, rapid market share gains, high percentage of sales from products introduced within the last three years, and favorable industry image. You will closely explore the practices by which such winners as NEC, Hewlett-Packard, Toyota, and Boeing have achieved success - and you will learn how to apply their methods, tools, and techniques to your own improvement efforts. Significantly, rather than offering a single process for success, World-Class New Product Development gives you a cross-section of proven, repeatable methodologies. The authors synthesize their findings into 12 concepts that can revolutionize the way you conceive and develop products.

Download or read book The 20 Solution written by John J. Cotter and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 1995-11-17 with total page 274 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Today, change flashes across the landscape like lightning. Simple, single-focus fix-it schemes no longer work, and isolated, unintegrated, one-time improvement efforts fail miserably. Organizations require periodic revolution, not just constant evolution." —John J. Cotter The first law of the jungle is that the most adaptable species are always the most successful. In the struggle for survival, the winners are those who are most sensitive to important changes in their environment and quickest to reshape their behavior to meet each new environmental challenge. As author John Cotter makes abundantly clear in this groundbreaking book, the law of natural selection holds as true for business organizations as it does for animal species. For Cotter, the key to getting a jump on change and beating out the competition in today's tumultuous, hypercompetitive business jungle is Rapid RedesignTM. A dynamic new approach to formulating and implementing strategic change, Rapid Redesign is based on the ongoing, systematic assessment of "the 20% of what you do that will contribute most to your success in the future," and then doing less to accomplish more by concentrating your time and energies on that 20%. Cotter demonstrates how Ford, Hewlett-Packard, Canon, and many other outstanding companies have successfully used this technique to become leaders in their respective industries. More important, he provides managers with a comprehensive blueprint for making Rapid Redesign work in companies of any size to increase their efficiency and effectiveness today and in the future. Cotter begins by spelling out the changes in perspective required of every member of a company attempting to make the transition to a flexible, change-centered organization. This is followed by a series of interrelated chapters in which he provides step-by-step guidelines on how to go about designing, planning, building, and managing such an organization. You'll learn how to identify and prioritize key strengths and weaknesses in your organization's structure, work routines, and personnel in the context of tomorrow's opportunities. You'll discover hundreds of innovative new approaches to improving productivity—such as horizontal business teams and internal and external alliances—and you'll learn how to tailor them to the unique demands of your own organization and industry. You'll also learn how to reshape your organization in the three key areas of structure, support, and staffing, and how to build mechanisms for continuous reflection and renewal into the new organizational structure. Read The 20% Solution and find out how to help your organization make the leap from merely surviving change to thriving on it. Don't wait for change to happen . . . make it happen! A dynamic approach to building flexible, change-driven business organizations for greater profit and productivity Rapid, unrelenting, all-encompassing change and uncertainty are the only constants in business today, and the most successful organizations aren't the ones that have learned how to survive change, but the ones that actually thrive on it. Now, find out how to transform your company into a sleek, hard-driving glutton for change in The 20% Solution. Written by one of the world's leading authorities on redesigning organizations for changing times, this groundbreaking book shows you how to design, plan, build, and manage a super-flexible, change-centered organization. John Cotter presents hundreds of real-life success stories that show how leading companies have applied The 20% Solution, and provides detailed, step-by-step instructions on how to make it work for you. Download or read book The Dawn of the Pacific Century written by William McCord and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2020-03-04 with total page 314 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is a bold affirmation of the Asian 'miracle' of development, an explanation of reasons for its success, and a review of its implications. As McCord reminds us, understanding why and how these nations have propelled themselves so far, so fast, is a key to anticipating the destiny of much of the rest of the world. Despite their interest, analysis have been confounded in attempts to explain Asian Development-without resources and colonies, without internal violence, and broadly distributing wealth as they have grown. Existing theories of development offer little guidance. Even explanations that look to the special circumstances of Asian countries have their weaknesses. Reviewing all of these explanations, McCord identifies a common group of socioeconomic values and policies shared by most of these nations. And these, he shows, tell us much. The Dawn of the Pacific Century convincingly makes the case for a genuinely Asian model of development-one that must be understood on its own terms. It should find a broad professional social science readership. In addition, those general readers who wish to learn from and understand the Asian challenge will find this book a good beginning.
Download or read book Global growth and distribution written by Maurizio Bussolo and published by World Bank Publications. This book was released on 2007 with total page 33 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Abstract: Over the past 20 years, aggregate measures of global inequality have changed little even if significant structural changes have been observed. High growth rates of China and India lifted millions out of poverty, while the stagnation in many African countries caused them to fall behind. Using the World Bank's LINKAGE global general equilibrium model and the newly developed Global Income Distribution Dynamics (GIDD) tool, this paper assesses the distribution and poverty effects of a scenario where these trends continue in the future. Even by anticipating a deceleration, growth in China and India is a key force behind the expected convergence of per-capita incomes at the global level. Millions of Chinese and Indian consumers will enter into a rapidly emerging global middle class-a group of people who can afford, and demand access to, the standards of living previously reserved mainly for the residents of developed countries. Notwithstanding these positive developments, fast growth is often characterized by high urbanization and growing demand for skills, both of which result in widening of income distribution within countries. These opposing distributional effects highlight the importance of analyzing global disparities by taking into account - as the GIDD does - income dynamics between and within countries.

Download or read book South South Globalization written by S. Mansoob Murshed and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2011-06-16 with total page 385 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Two prominent features of the current global economy are the world-wide recession brought about by the recent financial crisis, and the emergence of major economic powers from within the developing world such as Brazil, China and India. The former represents the failure of global regulatory policies and macroeconomic imbalances between surplus and deficit countries; the latter is symptomatic of a partial shift in economic power towards developing nations, who are often collectively labelled the global South. The macroeconomic imbalances are unsustainable in the longer run as they mean greater absorption relative to income in deficit nations; they require corrective action and international policy coordination. Reducing imbalances also requires large developing countries to raise their domestic consumption and also imports from the rest of the world and international financial institutions to operate as a lender of last resort. Furthermore, the engines of global growth, especially for developing countries, may no longer lie solely in the traditional developed country markets in the USA, Europe and Japan, known collectively as the global North. Rather South-South trade is growing rapidly, and that could be an engine of growth for the global economy, including both developed and developing countries. The various chapters in this edited volume address issues surrounding global imbalances and the prospects for growth in developing countries propelled by South-South interaction. This book should be of interest to students and researchers focussing on political economics, international economics, globalization, global imbalance and the world-wide recession after 2008.
