Book Urban Entertainment Centers Difficulties and Chances for Urban Development

Download or read book Urban Entertainment Centers Difficulties and Chances for Urban Development written by Ingo Zasada and published by GRIN Verlag. This book was released on 2007-11 with total page 54 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Research Paper (undergraduate) from the year 2001 in the subject Geography / Earth Science - Demographics, Urban Management, Planning, grade: 1,0, The Royal Institute of Technology (Spatial Planning), course: Urban Economics, 20 entries in the bibliography, language: English, abstract: This term paper is attending to the relative new appearance of the Urban Entertainment Center as a development of the entertainment market. Therefore the spatial and economical externalities of one of the stepchildren of the urban planning should be examined. To show the economic backgrounds the market developments will be described from the demand and support side. How do societal, technological and time changing factors or processes like concentration, globalisation and privatisation determine the development of the entertainment market? According to the changed demands, the market has produced constantly new forms of leisure time facilities. But only a certain number of types like musical theatres or leisure parks has a spatial importance because of its amount and size. But the main focus keeps on Urban Entertainment Center as the new generation of those facilities. A short introduction into the history and the main appearances should help to define this almost inflationary used term. Emphasising the differences concerning the major components and the location the influence of UECs to processes like suburbanisation will be discussed. The core of this work is concentrating the externalities within the urban development in the fields of the city structure, local economy as well as traffic issues and how planners and politicians could handle the phenomenon of Urban Entertainment Center.

Book Thinking Planning and Urbanism

Download or read book Thinking Planning and Urbanism written by Beth Moore Milroy and published by UBC Press. This book was released on 2010-01-01 with total page 335 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: When manufacturers and retailers vacate traditional locations, they leave holes in a city's fabric that signal a shifting urban-industrial terrain. Who should mend these spaces, and how should they approach the problem? Using Toronto's Dundas Square and surrounding area as a case study, this book meticulously reconstructs the redevelopment process to explore the theories and practices used. It traces the labyrinth of competing interests that can sideline and nearly overwhelm the public planning function. In these circumstances, Moore Milroy concludes that practising planners are marooned by planning theories that begin from the premise that urban space is a social construction and only secondarily a function of technology and aesthetics.

Book Street Protests and Fantasy Parks

Download or read book Street Protests and Fantasy Parks written by David Cameron and published by UBC Press. This book was released on 2002 with total page 196 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The speed and intensity of global integration in the last two decades have provoked serious debate about the human impact of globalization and deep concern about the capacity of the state to provide social justice. Street Protests and Fantasy Parks focuses on two dimensions of globalization: the cultural and social realities of global connection and the uneasily shifting role of the state. While global processes are fusing societies and economies more deeply than ever before, the editors argue that obituaries for the state are premature, if not wholly inappropriate. These essays examine a series of compelling case studies -- the entertainment industry, citizenship, social activism, and wired communication -- to assess the choices states have and the consequences of those choices for culture and society.
