Book The Global Findex Database 2017

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In 2011 the World Bank—with funding from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation—launched the Global Findex database, the world's most comprehensive data set on how adults save, borrow, make payments, and manage risk. Drawing on survey data collected in collaboration with Gallup, Inc., the Global Findex database covers more than 140 economies around the world. The initial survey round was followed by a second one in 2014 and by a third in 2017. Compiled using nationally representative surveys of more than 150,000 adults age 15 and above in over 140 economies, The Global Findex Database 2017: Measuring Financial Inclusion and the Fintech Revolution includes updated indicators on access to and use of formal and informal financial services. It has additional data on the use of financial technology (or fintech), including the use of mobile phones and the Internet to conduct financial transactions. The data reveal opportunities to expand access to financial services among people who do not have an account—the unbanked—as well as to promote greater use of digital financial services among those who do have an account. The Global Findex database has become a mainstay of global efforts to promote financial inclusion. In addition to being widely cited by scholars and development practitioners, Global Findex data are used to track progress toward the World Bank goal of Universal Financial Access by 2020 and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. The database, the full text of the report, and the underlying country-level data for all figures—along with the questionnaire, the survey methodology, and other relevant materials—are available at www.worldbank.org/globalfindex.

Book A Structural Model of Customer Learning on Mobile Payment

Download or read book A Structural Model of Customer Learning on Mobile Payment written by Shaohui Wu and published by . This book was released on 2018 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As one of the prominent areas of FinTech, mobile payment is increasingly accepted by more and more consumers. To investigate consumer mobile payment adoption behavior, we develop a Bayesian learning structural model using a rich data set from JD.com, the largest direct selling online retailer in China. We find that there exist two significant learning processes on consumer mobile payment adoption, i.e., mobile channel learning and online payment learning. On average, mobile channel learning plays a more important role in consumer mobile payment adoption than online payment learning. However, the speed of online payment learning is faster than the mobile channel learning. Second, we find a significant inertial effect on both learning processes. High membership level customers at JD.com are less likely to migrate from PC channel to the mobile channel, and also from offline cash-on-delivery payment to online payment than low membership level customers. Similarly, customers with longer shopping experience at JD.com are less likely to migrate from PC channel to the mobile channel. However, such inertial effect on online payment learning mainly exists for PC customers who did not migrate to the mobile channel. For those mobile customers who migrated to the mobile channel, the longer their shopping experience at JD.com, the more likely they switch from the offline cash-on-delivery method to the online payment. Third, we find that firm promotion policy on mobile channel is more effective to drive consumers to adopt mobile payment than the promotion policy on online payment, and interestingly the promotion policy on mobile payment directly is least effective. Finally, our policy simulations further show that the promotion frequency and duration are more important to drive consumer mobile payment adoption than promotion amount since the former two policies are more effective to facilitate consumer learning than the latter policy.
