Download or read book Family Language Transmission written by Brigitte E. Lambert and published by Peter Lang. This book was released on 2008 with total page 328 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book examines the whys and wherefores of family language transmission from the perspective of parents as language planners and managers of their linguistic resources. It draws on a qualitative, interview-based study of twenty families in which German is, was, or could have been the target language. Successive census analyses have charted a marked decline in the number of German speakers in Australia, indicating that motivation for transmitting German has waned. The situations where it is presently being transmitted are therefore particularly interesting. Data analysis was facilitated by a decision map depicting the planning, implementation and outcome phases of the transmission undertaking. The main findings show that the parents' decision is negotiated around their own needs, interests and ambitions in terms of child-focussed, reciprocal and parent-centred motives. These, in turn, are linked to transmission strategies and the linguistic outcomes for the children. Through an understanding of the motivational issues arising in this context, it will hopefully be possible to better predict the effectiveness of the transmission strategies presently applied.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

This book was released on 2019-07-12 with total page 2115 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: First published in 2002. The German Dictionary of Business, Commerce and Finance is the second dictionary to be published in Routledge’s programme of bilingual business dictionaries. The series was launched in December 1995 with the French Dictionary of Business, Commerce and Finance. It would not have been possible to compile this dictionary within a relatively short timescale, and to the standard achieved, without the use of a highly sophisticated, custom-designed database. The database’s most significant feature is that it is designed as a relational database: term records for each language are held in separate files, with further files consisting only of link records. Links between terms in different language files represent translations, enabling us to handle various types of one-to-many and many-to-one equivalences. Links between terms within a single language file represent crossreferences between geographical variants and abbreviations. The content of the database for this dictionary was created in three principal phases. A considerable proportion of the English term list was already available following the publication of the French Dictionary of Business, Commerce and Finance. The term list was then sent out to specialist translators - with current practical experience of business translation - who supplied German equivalences and expanded the English and German term lists to include the main relevant terminology in their particular spheres of work.

Download or read book Gef hrliche N he German language Edition written by Michail Logvinov and published by Columbia University Press. This book was released on 2014-03-01 with total page 299 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Salafism and jihadism are an important focus of inner-German security discussions. The Salafi proselytizing is more successful than ever, and the jihad in Afghanistan or Syria pulls Islamists from Germany. This collection offers an examination of currently virulent phenomena of Salafism and jihadism from different perspectives. It is sometimes claimed that either Islam and violence or religion and terror go hand in hand; the authors of this volume aim to show that this is not so. Using the methods of social science to determine whether and under what conditions such a dangerous proximity comes about, this book offers insight into which actors are being looked for by extremists to exploit and to use as self-fulfilling prophecies. To this end, the authors develop innovative analytical concepts: Among other things, a process of co-radicalization and an attitude-based approach to the study of Salafist networks are described. The book makes an important contribution to the current debate by not presenting the potentially dangerous proximity of Islam and violence as a social fact, but describes it as a factor that can be influenced and understood.
