Book The Relationship Among Health Education Systems Inc Progression and Exit Examination Scores Day Or Evening Enrollment Final Grade Point Average and NCLEX RN Success in Associate Degree Nursing Students

Download or read book The Relationship Among Health Education Systems Inc Progression and Exit Examination Scores Day Or Evening Enrollment Final Grade Point Average and NCLEX RN Success in Associate Degree Nursing Students written by Pamela Barnwell-Sanders and published by . This book was released on 2015 with total page 184 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Graduates of associate degree (AD) nursing programs form the largest segment of first-time National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses (NCLEX-RN) test takers, yet also experience the highest rate of NCLEX-RN failures. NCLEX-RN failure delays entry into the profession, adding an emotional and financial toll to the unsuccessful AD candidate. Studies concerning factors contributing to first-time success on the NCLEX-RN may include AD graduates, but primarily focus on baccalaureate degree nursing program graduates. Commercially available progression specialty examinations and exit examinations attempt to identify students at risk for failure on the NCLEX-RN. In an effort to increase first-time pass rates, many schools of nursing have implemented such examinations to better prepare nursing students for the NCLEX-RN examination. The present study sought to determine whether progression testing, using standardized computerized tests throughout the program, contributed to the success of AD nursing students taking the NCLEX-RN licensure examination for the first time. The study employed a retrospective, descriptive correlational design at a single two-year associate degree nursing program at a private college in the northeast. A convenience sample of the records of 410 nursing students, who graduated from the nursing program in 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, and 2013, were identified. The most reliable predictor of NCLEX-RN success was end-of-program grade point average. The study found no significant correlation with the initiation and use of computerized standardized testing and NCLEX-RN outcomes. Lastly, there was no difference in NCLEX-RN outcomes based on student enrollment in the day or evening AD nursing program.

Book Baccalaureate Nursing Student Success on the First Attempt of the NCLEX RN Exam

Download or read book Baccalaureate Nursing Student Success on the First Attempt of the NCLEX RN Exam written by Phillip J. Moore and published by . This book was released on 2010 with total page 96 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This study was conducted to determine if success on the National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses (NCLEX-RN) was correlated with a specific combination of academic variables. A retrospective, nonexperimental correlation design was utilized, which included both descriptive and inferential statistical procedures to determine positive correlation. Data was collected from the academic records of baccalaureate nursing students (N=225) who attended and completed the traditional and accelerated programs between 2005 and 2009. Independent academic variables included both prerequisite and nursing courses, as well as prerequisite, nursing and cumulative GPAs and ATI RN predictor test score. Eighteen of the 30 independent variables were found to correlate with NCLEX-RN success. Among those 18 correlating variables seven were noted to have a stronger correlation. Understanding the aspects of a nursing program that demonstrates correlation provides the nursing students, educators, and the profession as a whole opportunity to increase the possibility of success.

Book Demographic Characteristics as Predictors for Early Program Success On time Completion and NCLEX RN Success in a Bachelor of Science in Nursing Program

Download or read book Demographic Characteristics as Predictors for Early Program Success On time Completion and NCLEX RN Success in a Bachelor of Science in Nursing Program written by Nancy Petges and published by . This book was released on 2016 with total page 180 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This study examines the extent to which selected demographic characteristics (nontraditional student, English as a second language [ESL], male student, and first generation student) predict early-program success, successful on-time completion, and NCLEX-RN success in baccalaureate nursing education for a sample of students at a Midwestern university. To determine the relationships among study variables, correlational analysis was used. Logistic regression was utilized to examine the relationship of the predictive variables (nontraditional student, ESL student, male student, and first-generation student) to the outcome variables (early-program success, successful on-time completion, and NCLEX-RN success). In addition, descriptive statistics, including measures of central tendency (mean, median, and mode), variation (standard deviation), and frequency distributions, were utilized to analyze the data collected for five cohorts of students from 2009-2015.

Book Predictive Factors of Next Generation National Council Licensure Examination Success in a Baccalaureate Nursing Program

This book was released on 2023 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The purpose of the retrospective quantitative cohort regression study was to identify predictors of success on the Next Generation National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses (NGN-NCLEX-RN) and determine if changes are needed in the nursing program curriculum. Nurse educators and nursing administration are responsible for aligning the nursing curriculum with the accreditation organization's standards, adhering to the state Boards of Nursing's rules and regulations, and graduating safe and competent entry-level nurses. The most significant nursing program outcome and the key indicator of program effectiveness is the National Council of Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses (NCLEX-RN) first attempt passing rate. The study collected archived records of students' Elsevier Adaptive Quizzing (EAQ) scores, the highest Health Education Systems Incorporated (HESI) program exit examination scores, and the cumulative Grade Point Average (GPA) to determine if these variables predicted success on the NGN-NCLEX-RN. Linda Caputi's Think Like Nurse Model provides the framework for this study to measure prelicensure undergraduate students' ability to think and learn according to the cognitive processes necessary for passing the NGN-NCLEX-RN on the first attempt. This retrospective quantitative cohort regression study design had 28 participants who graduated from a prelicensure nursing program in the southeastern United States. The participants completed EAQ assignments and the HESI exit examination during their last semester, and their cumulative GPA was available before taking the NGN-NCLEX-RN. The results show the student's highest HESI program exit examination, the EAQ score, and cumulative GPA were not statistically sufficient predictors of passing the NGN-NCLEX-RN.
