Book Field guide to monitor irrigation water quality in Lebanon

Download or read book Field guide to monitor irrigation water quality in Lebanon written by Bashour, I., Pek, E., Simongini, C., Salman, M. and published by Food & Agriculture Org.. This book was released on 2022-03-25 with total page 84 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Water resources are under tremendous pressure due to growing demand, climate change and anthropogenic pollution in Lebanon. Rapidly declining water quality is a key indicator of the water resource degradation that characterizes now both the freshwater and marine environment across the country. The project “Improved Water Resources Monitoring System/Integrated Water Resources Management at regional level in Lebanon”, funded by the Swiss Government, is designed to establish a comprehensive water monitoring system in the North of Lebanon with the overall objective to strengthen the capacity of Lebanon’s water institutions and improving their performance at regional level, thereby helping them address the sector challenges for sustainable use of water resources. The term 'comprehensive monitoring system' refers to the integrated information generation, capturing quantity, quality and demand of agricultural water, as well as the climate parameters. The project outcome is a timely contribution to the water sector development in Lebanon, which is now encountering a period of unprecedented difficulties, aggravated by the economic crisis.

Book Irrigation Return Flow Water Quality as Affected by Irrigation Water Management in the Grand Valley of Colorado

Download or read book Irrigation Return Flow Water Quality as Affected by Irrigation Water Management in the Grand Valley of Colorado written by Harold Ray Duke and published by . This book was released on 1976 with total page 140 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This study was designed to meet the specific needs of the Environmental Protection Agency consistent with the interests and research goals of the ARS. The specific objectives of the study are: (1) to identify variables needed to predict effects of deep percolation, tailwater runoff, and lateral seepage on the quality of return flows. Includes evaluation of quantity and quality of various components of field water balance. (2) To define the effect of irrigation water management on the quality of runoff and deep percolation leaving the farm unit, and determine the reduction in both water and salt losses achievable through improved irrigation technology. (3) To identify mechanisms by which the salt load of return flow water is modified after it leaves the farm unit and moves toward the Colorado River; to attempt to determine the most practicable control methods for salt accretion. (4) To evaluate the experimental methods used in the above studies with regard to their applicability in other similar irrigated river valleys.

Book Water Quality Indices

Download or read book Water Quality Indices written by Tabassum Abbasi and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2012-03-10 with total page 375 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book covers water quality indices (WQI) in depth – it describes what purpose they serve, how they are generated, what are their strengths and weaknesses, and how to make the best use of them. It is a concise and unique guide to WQIs for chemists, chemical/environmental engineers and government officials. Whereas it is easy to express the quantity of water, it is very difficult to express its quality because a large number of variables determine the water quality. WQIs seek to resolve the difficulty by translating a set of a large number of variables to a one-digit or a two-digit numeral. They are essential in communicating the status of different water resources in terms of water quality and the impact of various factors on it to policy makers, service personnel, and the lay public. Further they are exceedingly useful in the monitoring and management of water quality. With the importance of water and water quality increasing exponentially, the importance of this topic is also set to increase enormously because only with the use of indices is it possible to assess, express, communicate, and monitor the overall quality of any water source. - Provides a concise guide to WQIs: their purpose and generation - Compares existing methods and WQIs and outlines strengths and weaknesses - Makes recommendations on how the indices should be used and under what circumstances they apply

Book Water quality Analysis to Evaluate Effects of Salinity on Irrigation Water in the Heart River Basin North Dakota

Download or read book Water quality Analysis to Evaluate Effects of Salinity on Irrigation Water in the Heart River Basin North Dakota written by Wyatt Scot Tatge and published by . This book was released on 2021 with total page 198 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Trends in water quality for the Heart River Basin in west-central North Dakota were computed for historical (1974-2019) and recent (1999-2019) periods at 4 sites to determine changes that have occurred over time. Geochemical modeling was completed at these sites to determine the source of identified chemistry changes in the water. R-QWTREND was used to characterize dissolved ion concentration trends by removing the variability caused by changing streamflow conditions to determine changes from factors other than streamflow. EGRET was used to evaluate changes in streamflow throughout the basin. PHREEQC inverse modeling was used to better understand the geochemical reactions controlling water quality within the Basin. Results of the EGRET simulations indicate increasing 7-day minimum flows resulting in increased groundwater discharge into the Heart River and its tributaries. Results of the trend analysis indicated that sulfate, sodium, calcium, potassium, magnesium, chloride, and total dissolved solids had increasing trends in either the historical or recent trend periods. Results of the geochemical modeling indicated that increased dissolved ion concentrations were derived mainly from sulfate evaporites that include gypsum, konyaite, mirabilite, and thenardite that are components in the soils and geology of the basin. Application of these results will assist producers and water-resource managers in making informed decisions regarding best management practices to protect soil health in terms of salinity and the quality of source water for irrigation.
