Book Professional Development for Primary Teachers in Science and Technology

Download or read book Professional Development for Primary Teachers in Science and Technology written by Marc J. de Vries and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-01-01 with total page 297 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents the research output of the Dutch project VTB-Pro, an internationally-oriented project that aimed at providing primary school teachers with the knowledge, abilities and attitudes that are necessary to implement science and technology education in their classes. An introductory chapter by Wynne Harlen and Pierre Lena positions this project in the international context. From the Foreword by Dr. Michel Rocard: I have been pleased to discover the VTB-Pro three-years project carried in the Netherlands (Broadening technological education in primary school). Focusing on professional development of teachers and presenting first hand testimonies and research, the present book demonstrates how to deal with this issue, so critical for a renewed pedagogy. With proper methods, the knowledge of science, the interest in science and technology, the pedagogical skills can all be improved among teachers who often have no or little affection for science.

Book The Credibility Principle and Teacher Attitudes Toward Science

Download or read book The Credibility Principle and Teacher Attitudes Toward Science written by Ralph E. Martin and published by American University Studies. This book was released on 1984 with total page 212 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This study was undertaken to determine if the credibility principle of attitude change applied in the multi-variable context of a team-taught education methods course. Defined as respondent perceptions of communicator expertise and trustworthiness, credi- bility is believed to be the probable producer of attitude changes. Six education team members functioned as independent variables while the dependent variables consisted of preservice teacher attitudes toward science and science teaching as well as perceptions of team member credibility and attitudes. Three principal team members were perceived as being most credible. Repeated measures on the dependent variables increased toward the perceived levels of the principal educators. Results of this study support the credibility principle, in general, but additional findings indicate that credibility alone is not the probable producer of attitude changes.

Originally published in 1986, this bibliography attempts to review the large field of research between the years 1965 and 1984. To identify all the sources of information, and to list documents that discuss research on teachers’ attitudes. It does not include an assessment of the quality of the research reported in the listed documents, however, the value is in its comprehensiveness. Users of the bibliography can locate the listed studies and then evaluate the studies using criteria relevant to their individual purposes.

Book Attitudes of Preservice Elementary Teachers Towards Science

Download or read book Attitudes of Preservice Elementary Teachers Towards Science written by Nihal Buldu and published by LAP Lambert Academic Publishing. This book was released on 2009-09 with total page 168 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Preservice elementary teachers' attitudes toward science have been the subject of investigation by science educators for decades. Many of the recent attempts pertaining to preservice elementary teachers by science educators have focused on the effects of science method courses on the attitudes and relationships between attitudes and other variables. The research literature lacks studies that compare attitudes of preservice elementary teachers toward science across two or more nations. This book presents a doctoral research study that investigated the attitudes of preservice elementary teachers toward science in the U.S. and Turkey in order to see if there is a difference between the U.S. and Turkish preservice elementary teachers' attitudes toward science, and to investigate whether variables such as gender and the grade the preservice teachers wish to teach make a difference in preservice elementary teachers' attitudes towards science.
