Book Determination of the Stability and Control Characteristics of Airplanes from Tests of Powered Models

Download or read book Determination of the Stability and Control Characteristics of Airplanes from Tests of Powered Models written by Isidore G. Recant and published by . This book was released on 1942 with total page 118 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A technique of testing wind-tunnel powered models has been developed as a result of experience gained in the investigation of the static longitudinal and lateral stability and control characteristics of several powered models in the NACA 7- by 10-foot wind tunnel. As an important part of this technique, a minimum program of the tests considered necessary to specify satisfactorily the static stability and control characteristics for present-day airplanes has been tentatively established.

Book Determination of the Stability and Control Characteristics of a Straight wing Tailless Fighter airplane Model in the Langley Free flight Tunnel

Download or read book Determination of the Stability and Control Characteristics of a Straight wing Tailless Fighter airplane Model in the Langley Free flight Tunnel written by Charles L. Seacord and published by . This book was released on 1946 with total page 16 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Summary: An investigation to determine the stability and control characteristics of a straight-wing, tailless fighter model with a pusher propeller designed by the NACA has been made in the Langley free-flight tunnel. The investigation consisted principally of force and flight tests of a powered dynamic model. The effects of tail configuration, center-of-gravity location, and power on the stability and control characteristics of the model were determined. Tests were also made in the Langley 15-foot free-spinning tunnel to determine whether the model would trim at very high angles of attack.

Book NACA Wartime Reports Series L

Book excerpt: Tests have been made in the Langley free-flight tunnel to compare the stability and control characteristics of a powered airplane model in the erect and in the inverted flight attitudes. Force tests and yaw-trim tests were made to determine the static stability characteristics of the model and power-off flight tests were made to determine the general flight characteristics of the model in the inverted attitude.

Book Determination of the Stability and Control Characteristics of a Tailless All wing Airplane Model with Sweepback in the Langley Free flight Tunnel

Download or read book Determination of the Stability and Control Characteristics of a Tailless All wing Airplane Model with Sweepback in the Langley Free flight Tunnel written by John P. Campbell and published by . This book was released on 1945 with total page 44 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Summary: An investigation to determine the power-off stability and control characteristics of a tailless all-wing airplane model with sweepback has been made in the Langley free-flight tunnel. The results of the free-flight tunnel tests were correlated with results from force tests made at high Reynolds numbers in order to estimate the flying characteristics of the full-scale airplane. The investigation consisted of force and flight tests of a 4.3-foot-span dynamic model. The effects of flap deflection, center-of-gravity location, and addition of vertical-tail area were determined. The following conclusions were drawn from the results of the investigation: The full-sale airplane will undergo a serious reduction in stick-fixed longitudinal stability at high life coefficients unless early wing-tip stalling is eliminated. The directional stability of an all-wing airplane without vertical tail surfaces will be undesirably low. The effective dihedral of an airplane of this type should be kept low. An elevon and rudder control system similar to that used on this design should provide sufficient control.

Book Determination of Lateral Stability Characteristics from Free flight Model Tests with Experimental Results on the Effects of Wing Vertical Position and Dihedral at Transonic Speeds

Download or read book Determination of Lateral Stability Characteristics from Free flight Model Tests with Experimental Results on the Effects of Wing Vertical Position and Dihedral at Transonic Speeds written by Clarence L. Gillis and published by . This book was released on 1960 with total page 48 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A test and analysis method is presented for determining airplane lateral stability characteristics, including aerodynamic derivatives, from flight tests of scale models. The method of analysis utilizes the rotating time-vector concept and also a quasi-static approach. Data are presented at transonic speeds for three swept-wing rocket-propelled models differing only in vertical position and dihedral of the wing. The method proved to be adequate for delineating the major effects of the geometric variations on the aerodynamic lateral stability derivatives. The effects of Reynolds number on the linearity of the static stability data for an unswept wing configuration are illustrated.

Book Effects of Wing Position and Vertical tail Configuration on Stability and Control Characteristics of a Jet powered Delta wing Vertically Rising Airplane Model

Download or read book Effects of Wing Position and Vertical tail Configuration on Stability and Control Characteristics of a Jet powered Delta wing Vertically Rising Airplane Model written by Powell M. Lovell and published by . This book was released on 1957 with total page 42 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An investigation has been conducted to determine the effects of wing position and vertical tail configuration on the stability and control characteristics of a jet-powered delta-wing vertically rising airplane model. A ducted-fan powerplant was used because there was no hot-jet powerplant of sufficiently small size and adequate reliability available. In addition to conventional flap-type control surfaces on the wings and vertical tails, the model had jet-reaction controls provided by movable eyelids at the rear of the tail pipe and by air bled from the main duct and exhausted through movable nozzles near the wing tips. The investigation consisted of flight and force tests of three model configurations: a high wing with a top-mounted vertical tail, a high wing with top- and bottom-mounted vertical tails, and a low wing with the top-mounted vertical tail. The flight tests, which were made in the Langley full-scale tunnel, represented slow constant-altitude transitions from hovering to normal unstalled forward flight.

Lowry and published by . This book was released on 1942 with total page 46 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Tests were made in the NACA 7- by 10-foot wind tunnel of the 1/8-scale model of the Brewster F2A airplane equipped with full-span slotted flaps and a new horizontal tail. The object of the tests was to determine the power-on static longitudinal stability and control characteristics of the model with a new horizontal tail. Some additional tests to determine the characteristics of the model, both in free air and near the ground, were made after certain modifications had been made to the horizontal tail.
