Book Standard Test Method for Shear Thinning Index of Non Newtonian Liquids Using a Rotational Viscometer

Download or read book Standard Test Method for Shear Thinning Index of Non Newtonian Liquids Using a Rotational Viscometer written by and published by . This book was released on 2018 with total page 3 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This test method describes the determination of the shear thinning index of a shear-rate dependent (non- Newtonian) fluid using a rotational viscometer. A value of the shear thinning index of unity indicates that the material is Newtonian in behavior. A value greater than unity indicates shear thinning behavior. The values stated in SI units are to be regarded as standard. No other units of measurement are included in this standard.

Book FEFLOW

    Book Details:
  • Author : Hans-Jörg G. Diersch
  • Publisher : Springer Science & Business Media
  • Release : 2013-11-22
  • ISBN : 364238739X
  • Pages : 1018 pages

Download or read book FEFLOW written by Hans-Jörg G. Diersch and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-11-22 with total page 1018 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: FEFLOW is an acronym of Finite Element subsurface FLOW simulation system and solves the governing flow, mass and heat transport equations in porous and fractured media by a multidimensional finite element method for complex geometric and parametric situations including variable fluid density, variable saturation, free surface(s), multispecies reaction kinetics, non-isothermal flow and multidiffusive effects. FEFLOW comprises theoretical work, modeling experiences and simulation practice from a period of about 40 years. In this light, the main objective of the present book is to share this achieved level of modeling with all required details of the physical and numerical background with the reader. The book is intended to put advanced theoretical and numerical methods into the hands of modeling practitioners and scientists. It starts with a more general theory for all relevant flow and transport phenomena on the basis of the continuum approach, systematically develops the basic framework for important classes of problems (e.g., multiphase/multispecies non-isothermal flow and transport phenomena, discrete features, aquifer-averaged equations, geothermal processes), introduces finite-element techniques for solving the basic balance equations, in detail discusses advanced numerical algorithms for the resulting nonlinear and linear problems and completes with a number of benchmarks, applications and exercises to illustrate the different types of problems and ways to tackle them successfully (e.g., flow and seepage problems, unsaturated-saturated flow, advective-diffusion transport, saltwater intrusion, geothermal and thermohaline flow).

Book Analysis of New Phenomena in Shear Flow of Non Newtonian Fluids

Download or read book Analysis of New Phenomena in Shear Flow of Non Newtonian Fluids written by and published by . This book was released on 1989 with total page 38 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Phase-plane and small-parameter asymptotic techniques are used to analyze systems of ordinary differential equations that describe the transient behavior of non-Newtonian fluids in shear flow. These systems approximate the partial differential equations that derive from three-dimensional balance laws and from differential constitutive models for highly elastic liquids. Two models are considered: one with a single relaxation time and small Newtonian viscosity; the other with two relaxation times and no Newtonian viscosity. Both possess the key feature that the variation of steady shear stress with strain rate is not monotone. The analysis shows that both models exhibit several distinctive phenomena: spurt, shape memory, hysteresis, latency, and normal stress oscillations. The predictions for the spurt phenomenon agree quantitatively with experimental results for polymer melts; the other new phenomena, which were discovered recently in numerical simulation, should also be observable in rheological experiments.

Book Heat Transfer to Non Newtonian Fluids

Download or read book Heat Transfer to Non Newtonian Fluids written by Aroon Shenoy and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2018-03-12 with total page 308 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book has been written with the idea of providing the fundamentals for those who are interested in the field of heat transfer to non-Newtonian fluids. It is well recognized that non-Newtonian fluids are encountered in a number of transport processes and estimation of the heat transfer characteristics in the presence of these fluids requires analysis of equations that are far more complex than those encountered for Newtonian fluids. A deliberate effort has been made to demonstrate the methods of simplification of the complex equations and to put forth analytical expressions for the various heat transfer situations in as vivid a manner as possible. The book covers a broad range of topics from forced, natural and mixed convection without and with porous media. Laminar as well as turbulent flow heat transfer to non-Newtonian fluids have been treated and the criterion for transition from laminar to turbulent flow for natural convection has been established. The heat transfer characteristics of non-Newtonian fluids from inelastic power-law fluids to viscoelastic second-order fluids and mildly elastic drag reducing fluids are covered. This book can serve the needs of undergraduates, graduates and industry personnel from the fields of chemical engineering, material science and engineering, mechanical engineering and polymer engineering.
