Book Global Gravity Field Modeling from Satellite to Satellite Tracking Data

Download or read book Global Gravity Field Modeling from Satellite to Satellite Tracking Data written by Majid Naeimi and published by Springer. This book was released on 2017-02-10 with total page 181 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides a sound theoretical basis for the the different gravity field recovery methods and the numerics of satellite-to-satellite tracking data. It represents lectures given at the ‘Wilhelm and Else Heraeus Autumn School’ in Bad Honnef, Germany, October 4-9, 2015. The emphasis of the school was on providing a sound theoretical basis for the different gravity field recovery methods and the numerics of data analysis. The approaches covered here are the variational equations (classical approach), the acceleration approach and the energy balance approach, all of which are used for global gravity field recovery on the basis of satellite observations. The theory of parameter estimation in satellite gravimetry and concepts for orbit determination are also included. The book guides readers through a broad range of topics in satellite gravimetry, supplemented by the necessary theoretical background and numerical examples. While it provides a comprehensive overview for those readers who are already familiar with satellite gravity data processing, it also offers an essential reference guide for graduate and undergraduate students interested in this field.

Book Geopotential Determination from Satellite to Satellite Tracking and Satellite Altimetry Supplement I

Download or read book Geopotential Determination from Satellite to Satellite Tracking and Satellite Altimetry Supplement I written by J. G. Hartwell and published by . This book was released on 1975 with total page 39 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report is a supplement to a report entitled 3Geopotential Determination From Satellite To Satellite Tracking and Satellite Altimetry3, ETL-CR-74-21, February, 1975. Under appropriate circumstances (as reported in the final report) it has been found that when conservation of energy principles are used in determination of spherical harmonic coefficients of the earth's gravity field, a diagonal set of normal equations is generated. Test results are presented which indicate that perturbations due to extraterrestrial and nonconservative forces may be isolated so that these forces will not contaminate the conservation of energy solution. Uncertainties in gravitational anomalies and deflections of the vertical as a function of uncertainties in the determined spherical harmonic coefficients are given. These uncertainties are given when the spherical harmonic coefficients are determined from conservation of energy principles and from conservation of energy principles augmented with satellite altimetry. In the latter case a reduction by a factor of about thirty in the surface gravity standard deviation is realized when satellite to satellite tracking is augmented with satellite altimetry.

Book Global Geopotential Modelling from Satellite to satellite Tracking

Download or read book Global Geopotential Modelling from Satellite to satellite Tracking written by Oscar L. Colombo and published by . This book was released on 1981 with total page 137 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The error analysis of the global modelling of the geopotential has been carried out up to degree and order 331 of the spherical harmonic expansion, for data from a low-low satellite-to-satellite tracking (SST) mission. The sphericity and the rotation of the Earth have been considered, as well as the discrete nature of the data, assumed to consist of time averages of the measured range-rate sampled at regular intervals. The expansion of the potential has been truncated at degree n = 331, because little information on higher degrees is likely to be present in the data. Two theories have been used: that of least squares adjustment, and that of least squares collocation; above degree n = 200 the accuracies predicted according to collocation are significantly better than those according to least squares. In this report there is also a discussion on how to process SST data to obtain very high resolution models of the gravitational field. Descriptions and listings of computer programs are included. To reduce the computer time and storage needed to set up and to invert the normal matrix, a somewhat simplified orbital geometry and an approximate model of the data have been adopted; no orbit determination errors have been considered. Some arguments are given to justify these shortcuts, which may not affect seriously the validity of the results. An extention of the theory to non-polar orbits is given.

Book Geopotential Determination from Satellite to Satellite Tracking and Satellite Altimetry

Download or read book Geopotential Determination from Satellite to Satellite Tracking and Satellite Altimetry written by J. G. Hartwell and published by . This book was released on 1975 with total page 81 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A study has been made to determine the accuracy with which geopotential may be recovered using the principle of conservation of energy. The improvement resulting from the use of altimeter measurements over selected oceans areas was also investigated. Satellite position and velocity were determined by using range and range rate measurements for a system (621B) of high orbiting satellites whose own positions and velocities had previously been determined by ranging from known ground stations.

Book The Estimation of Geopotentials by Way of Geophysical Inverse Theory

Download or read book The Estimation of Geopotentials by Way of Geophysical Inverse Theory written by Mark T. Lane and published by . This book was released on 1986 with total page 31 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Satellite to satellite tracking data (SST) can be used to measure the geopotential at the satellite altitude. This measurement can be used to estimate the Earth's gravity field at the Earth's surface, the so-called 'inverse problem'. Geophysical inverse theory is applied to this inverse problem, and numerical methods are developed and tested. Geophysical inverse theory is used to map the geopotential from the satellite altitude to a lower surface. Two configurations are explored and the geopotential in a local network is recovered with less than 4% error. Keywords: Geoid; Metric data; Geophysical inverse theory; Elliptic integrals; Theta functions.

Book The Use of Artificial Satellites for Geodesy

Download or read book The Use of Artificial Satellites for Geodesy written by Soren W. Henriksen and published by American Geophysical Union. This book was released on 1972 with total page 293 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Published by the American Geophysical Union as part of the Geophysical Monograph Series, Volume 15. This monograph contains 34 communications presented at the Third International Symposium on the Use of Artificial Satellites for Geodesy in 1971, and 4 invited papers on subjects that complement the others and provide continuity. All contributions represent the most recent findings in the theoretical and applied fields of satellite geodesy, including new instrumentation (satellite sensors and ground equipment) of potential use in satellite geodesy. The two preceding symposiums were held at Washington, D.C., in 1962 and at Athens, Greece, in 1965. The Proceedings of the first were published by North-Holland Publishing Company, Amsterdam, in 1963, and the Proceedings of the second by the National Technical University, Athens, in 1967. The prime mover behind both was George Veis, and his continuing dedication to this subject was in large measure responsible for scheduling this third symposium.

This book was released on 2013-08 with total page 82 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report describes a new method for determination of the geopotential. The analysis is aimed at the GRACE mission. This Satellite-to-Satellite Tracking (SST) mission is viewed as a mapping mission The result will be maps of the geoid. The elements of potential theory, celestial mechanics, and Geophysical Inverse Theory are integrated into a computation architecture, and the results of several simulations presented Centimeter accuracy geoids with 50 to 100 km resolution can be recovered with a 30 to 60 day mission.
