Book Determination of Toxic Organic Chemicals In Natural Waters Sediments and Soils

Download or read book Determination of Toxic Organic Chemicals In Natural Waters Sediments and Soils written by T. R. Crompton and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 2019-06-07 with total page 423 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Determination of Toxic Organic Chemicals in Natural Waters, Sediments and Soils: Determination and Analysis reviews the latest techniques for the determination and assessment of both current and emerging organic compounds in a range of important environmental contexts. A wide range of organic compounds in non-saline waters are discussed in the opening chapters, including hydrocarbons, surface active agents and volatile organic compounds. This is followed by multiorganics, pesticides and organometallic compounds in non-saline waters. Organic compounds in aqueous precipitation are then explored before the book goes on to discuss compounds in soils, including extraction techniques, insecticides, herbicides and fungicides, and organometallic compounds. Finally, the concluding chapters focus on compounds in sediments, providing readers with the latest information in the field and supporting them as they address the important issue surrounding organic material throughout ecosystems. - Highlights the latest methods for analyzing a wide range of organic compounds - Supports researchers by providing detailed information across a range of ecosystems - Includes detailed guidance for assessing complex mixtures of organic compounds in the environment

Book Methodologies for Soil and Sediment Fractionation Studies

Download or read book Methodologies for Soil and Sediment Fractionation Studies written by Philippe Quevauviller and published by Royal Society of Chemistry. This book was released on 2007-10-31 with total page 197 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The analysis of soils and sediments for pollutants is increasingly required in today's industrial world. It is therefore important that extraction procedures used for environmental risk assessment studies, production of certified reference materials and applications of extraction schemes are standardised throughout the scientific community. This book deals specifically with operationally-defined extraction methods for the determination of "fractions" of elements in soil and sediment matrices. Bringing together the work of a number of different international laboratories, the book describes single and sequential extraction procedures. It then goes on to present a summary of the latest research on extraction/leaching tests for the determination of trace organic compounds in wastes, followed by an outline of an international network which aims to standardise extraction and leaching methodologies for their applications to various environmental matrices. Methodologies for Soil and Sediment Fractionation Studies will be welcomed by researchers and analysts in academia, industry and government institutions worldwide.

Book Compilation of EPA s Sampling and Analysis Methods Second Edition

Download or read book Compilation of EPA s Sampling and Analysis Methods Second Edition written by Lawrence H. Keith and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 1996-09-26 with total page 1740 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The popular first edition of this book contained approximately 600 analyte/method summaries. This new edition contains twice as many new EPA-approved methods for testing and analyzing industrial chemicals, pesticides, herbicides, dioxins, and PCBs and is a printed version of the EPA's Sampling and Analysis Methods Database. Each analyte/method summary contains all of the information required to stand alone as a reference. Thus, in addition to a brief summary of each method, descriptions include required instrumentation, interferences, sampling containers, preservation techniques, maximum holding times, detection levels, accuracy, precision, quality control requirements, EPA reference, and, when available, EPA contacts with phone numbers. Each summarized report is a "stand-alone" document.

Book Bioavailability of Contaminants in Soils and Sediments

Download or read book Bioavailability of Contaminants in Soils and Sediments written by National Research Council and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 2003-05-03 with total page 433 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Bioavailability refers to the extent to which humans and ecological receptors are exposed to contaminants in soil or sediment. The concept of bioavailability has recently piqued the interest of the hazardous waste industry as an important consideration in deciding how much waste to clean up. The rationale is that if contaminants in soil and sediment are not bioavailable, then more contaminant mass can be left in place without creating additional risk. A new NRC report notes that the potential for the consideration of bioavailability to influence decision-making is greatest where certain chemical, environmental, and regulatory factors align. The current use of bioavailability in risk assessment and hazardous waste cleanup regulations is demystified, and acceptable tools and models for bioavailability assessment are discussed and ranked according to seven criteria. Finally, the intimate link between bioavailability and bioremediation is explored. The report concludes with suggestions for moving bioavailability forward in the regulatory arena for both soil and sediment cleanup.
