Book Plane Strain Fracture Toughness of 2219 t87 Aluminum Alloy at Room and Cryogenic Temperatures

Download or read book Plane Strain Fracture Toughness of 2219 t87 Aluminum Alloy at Room and Cryogenic Temperatures written by Carl M. CARMAN and published by . This book was released on 1966 with total page 40 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The tensile properties and plane strain fracture toughness of 1/2 and 1 inch thick 2219-T87 aluminum alloy were determined as a function of testing at temperatures from room to -423 F. The tensile and yield strengths of this material show a gradual increase as the testing temperature is decreased to -423 F while the elongation and reduction of area remain essentially unchanged. The plane strain fracture toughness of this material is relatively insensitive to testing temperature and shows only a slight increase with decreasing testing temperature. Specimens machined so that the crack propagation is perpendicular to the rolling plane show somewhat higher values of plane strain fracture toughness than when crack propagation is parallel to the rolling plane. The plane strain fracture toughness of the 1 inch thick 2219-T87 aluminum alloy was somewhat lower than that of the 1/2 inch thick plate. Illustrative examples are presented on using these parameters in design. (Author).

Book Flaw Growth Behavior in Thick Welded Plates of 2219 T87 Aluminum at Room and Cryogenic Temperatures

Download or read book Flaw Growth Behavior in Thick Welded Plates of 2219 T87 Aluminum at Room and Cryogenic Temperatures written by Royce G. Forman and published by . This book was released on 1973 with total page 54 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Axial load fatigue and fracture tests were conducted on thick welded plates of 2219-T87 aluminum alloy to determine the tensile strength properties and the flaw growth behavior in electron beam, gas metal arc, and pulse current gas tungsten arc welds for plates 6.35 centimeters (2.5 in.) thick. The tests were conducted in room temperature air and in liquid nitrogen environments. Specimens were tested in both the as-welded and the aged after welding conditions. The experimental crack growth rate were correlated with theoretical crack growth rate predictions for semielliptical surface flaws.

Book Low Temperature Properties of Selected Materials

Download or read book Low Temperature Properties of Selected Materials written by Dorothea M. Johnson and published by . This book was released on 1977 with total page 182 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report is a bibliography of the work reported in the literature on the effects of low temperature on the properties of structural materials. Some of the newer areas of cryogenic technology such as superconducting machinery involve environments which may subject the components to temperature as low as 4 K. Exposure of structural materials to such low temperatures affects their properties. This bibliography contains 963 references published between 1950-1976, arranged in chronological/alphabetical order. Combined material/property indexes are provided. (Author).

Book Some Design Aspects of Fracture in Flat sheet Specimens and Cylindrical Pressure Vessels

Download or read book Some Design Aspects of Fracture in Flat sheet Specimens and Cylindrical Pressure Vessels written by L. R. Jackson and published by . This book was released on 1963 with total page 30 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The results of flat-sheet tensile tests made at different laboratories are re-examined and put on a comparable basis. The materials represented are 7075-T6 clad, 2024-T3 clad, 2014-T6, and 2219-T87 aluminum alloys, and 17-7PH stainless steel. Curves are presented in a form usable by designers. One investigation was concerned with the fracture strength of cylindrical pressure vessels made from 2024-T3 and 7075-T6 aluminum alloys. The data from this investigation are put on the same basis as the flat-sheet data so that comparisons can be made. Conclusions from the data studied in this memorandum are presented and suggestions for additional testing are made. (Author).

Book Advances in Cryogenic Engineering

Download or read book Advances in Cryogenic Engineering written by K. Timmerhaus and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 569 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The First International Cryogenic Materials Conference (ICMC) provided a new forum for the presentation of low-temperature materials research. The confer ence, held in conjunction with the 1975 Cryogenic Engineering Conference, provided materials research personnel with excellent exposure to current develop ments in the cryogenics field and beneficial interactions with designers of cryogenic systems. Because of the large response to a late call for papers, the enthusiasm and encouragement at the meeting, and the wide spectrum and high quality of papers, the Second International Cryogenic Materials Conference is being planned along with the 1977 Cryogenic Engineering Conference for Boulder, Colorado, in the summer of 1977. The success of the First International Cryogenic Materials Conference was certainly in large measure due to the excellent hospitality of our Canadian hosts, the Royal Military College of Canada and Queen's University in Kingston, Ontario. In particular, the efforts of A. C. Leonard and his staff ensured an excellent conference and a pleasant and memorable visit to Canada. The Cryogenic Engineering Conference Board was both generous and skillful in helping to initiate this new conference and their guidance and acceptance is gratefully acknowledged. The Cryogenic Engineering Conference program chairman, M. J. Hiza, greatly facilitated the interaction for the two conferences and provided valuable assistance in generat ing a workable program. The proceedings of the 1975 Cryogenic Engineering Conference are published as Volume 21 of the Advances in Cryogenic Engineering and include many papers indicating innovative use of new cryogenic materials properties data.
