Book Determinants of Self employment

Download or read book Determinants of Self employment written by Gerrit de Wit and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 197 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is the result of five years of research that I carried out as a research fellow at the Faculty of Economics and Econometrics of the University of Amsterdam. The project was initiated in 1986 by Frans van Winden and Roy Thurik. Frans van Winden became interested in self employment through his work concerning government behavior. In the models that he employs, the government is influenced by various social groups, the political strength of which is related to their size. As one of these is the group of self-employed individuals, he became interested in determinants of the size of this group. Roy Thurik was professionally interested in the subject because of his work at the Research Institute for Small and Medium-sized Business in the Netherlands (EIM), an institute that does much research in this area. Together, they wrote a proposal for a research project, for which they received funding from the Dutch Ministry of Economic Affairs . These funds were supplemented by the University of Amsterdam and at a later stage by the Organization for the Advancement of Research in the Economic Discipline (ECOZOEK), that is part of the Netherlands Organization for Scientific Research (NWO). This support is gratefully acknowiedged. The commercial edition of this book was partIy financed by the Centre for Energy Conservation and Environmental Technology (CE), the Center for Research in Experimental Economics and Political Decisionmaking (CREED), and the University of Amsterdam.

Book Entrepreneurship in Nebraska

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Nebraska's entrepreneurs play a vital role in the state's economy. This book investigates that role and analyzes the business and economic conditions that affect start-ups in both the short and long run. Using Gallup's extensive survey findings, it reveals the attitudes of small business owners and the general public about topics such as starting a business, entrepreneurship education, economic development, and business transition and succession. Research into business conditions and attitudes in different regions of Nebraska provides an in-depth understanding of the climate for entrepreneurship. In its final chapter, the book describes what actions can be taken to maintain the state's dynamic economy to foster further growth, additional job creation, and expanded wealth and philanthropy. Through its scope and comprehensive analysis, "Entrepreneurship in Nebraska" provides a model that any state can use to advance its own economic climate.

Book Entrepreneurial Learning

Book excerpt: This book explores the development of the rapidly evolving field of entrepreneurial learning by bringing together contributions from an international team of researchers, who offer new understanding of its emerging development and its potential scope for the future. Using the three domains of theory, education, and learning-in-practice, this book offers differing and complementary perspectives on entrepreneurial learning: Conceptual work which reviews and summarises prior work in the field and advances theoretical understanding of entrepreneurial learning research, enabling a review of the development of research in this area over time. Applied work around entrepreneurship education which develops understanding of teaching and learning practices in educational and institutional contexts. Exploration of learning in ‘real’ business contexts, including new venture creation, family business and small business development, and ‘intrapreneurial’ learning in larger organisations. Using global perspectives, originating from the different cultural contexts of the USA, UK, Nordic and Chinese perspectives, the chapters converge to address issues, questions and opportunities for the future development of entrepreneurial learning. This book will be of interest to educators and researchers in the areas of entrepreneurship, enterprise education and entrepreneurial development, as well as policy makers and business advice and support agencies.

Book The Psychology of Entrepreneurship

Download or read book The Psychology of Entrepreneurship written by J. Robert Baum and published by Psychology Press. This book was released on 2014-04-16 with total page 433 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Entrepreneurship is essential for international social and economic well-being, as new ventures are the dominant source of job creation, market innovation, and economic growth in many societies. In this book, a noted group of researchers use findings, methods, and theories of modern psychology as the basis for gaining important, new insights into entrepreneurship-and into the hearts and minds of the talented, passionate professionals who create new business ventures. The Psychology of Entrepreneurship, a volume in the SIOP Organizational Frontiers Series, is the first book written about the psychology of entrepreneurship, and includes over 60 research questions to guide industrial organizational psychology, organizational behavior, and entrepreneurship research about entrepreneurs. It seeks to answer questions such as, how and why do some people, but not others, recognize opportunities, decide to start new ventures, and organize successful, rapidly growing new ventures? Some topics addressed include: methods to help researchers explore the domain of entrepreneurship research; the entire process of starting a new business; characteristics of the individual entrepreneur; the history of entrepreneurship education; the cross-cultural effects of entrepreneurship; and the viewpoints of seasoned psychologists who analyze current entrepreneurship research methods. This book will appeal to teachers, students, and researchers in the areas of industrial organizational psychology, organizational behavior, entrepreneurship, and management.

Book The New Industrial State

Download or read book The New Industrial State written by John Kenneth Galbraith and published by Princeton University Press. This book was released on 2015-04-29 with total page 577 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: With searing wit and incisive commentary, John Kenneth Galbraith redefined America's perception of itself in The New Industrial State, one of his landmark works. The United States is no longer a free-enterprise society, Galbraith argues, but a structured state controlled by the largest companies. Advertising is the means by which these companies manage demand and create consumer "need" where none previously existed. Multinational corporations are the continuation of this power system on an international level. The goal of these companies is not the betterment of society, but immortality through an uninterrupted stream of earnings. First published in 1967, The New Industrial State continues to resonate today.
