Los alumnos de la Facultad de Medicina son un grupo privilegiado por su formacion e importante por la influencia que ejercera en la comunidad, por lo que consideramos pertinente medir el conocimiento sobre contaminacion ambiental y los efectos que tienen en la salud. Para esto nos planteamos los siguientes objetivos. 1.- Determinar los conocimientos sobre contaminacion medio ambiental. 2.- Determinar los conocimientos sobre los efectos en la salud de la contaminacion medio ambiental. 3.- Determinar si la edad, el sexo, ano de estudios, ocupacion de los padres; son factores determinantes en los conocimientos sobre contaminacion medio ambiental y sus efectos en la salud. Se procedio a tomar nmuestra mediante una formula con margen de error del 5 por ciento, la que estuvo compesta por 250 alumnos que cumplian con tener matricula regular y no estra cursando el septimo ano de estudios. Se hizo un reparto proporcional al estrato y se seleccionaron en forma aleatoria. A ellos se le aplico un cuestionario elaborado previamente para tal fin. Los resultados obtenidos fueron los siguiebntes: Conocimientos apropiados en temas como la contaminacion del rio chili, la erosion y fertilidad de la contaminacion atmosferica. Bajos conocimientos en temas como la contaminacion del agua por agua por detergentes y petroleo. En cuanto a los efectos de la contaminacion ambiental en la salud, se conocian mejor aquellos que afectaban el aparato respiratorio, tambien los relacionados al saneamiento ambiental y contaminacion biologica del agua. Se identificaron como factores que influyen en el conocimiento sobre contaminacion ambiental y los efectos en la salud a la edad y el ano de estudios.(AU).
