Book Modern Methods in the Analysis and Structural Elucidation of Mycotoxins

Download or read book Modern Methods in the Analysis and Structural Elucidation of Mycotoxins written by Richard J. Cole and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2012-12-02 with total page 487 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Modern Methods in the Analysis and Structural Elucidation of Mycotoxins presents available methods of analysis and structural elucidation of mycotoxins by recognized experts in the various disciplines. The approach in each chapter of the book is to present each method initially in theoretical terms and then to review the method as it specifically applies to the analysis and/or structural elucidation of mycotoxins. Comprised of 15 chapters, the book's opening chapters deal with screening, sampling, and survey methods for mycotoxins and toxigenic fungi. This is followed by chapters dealing mostly with methods for structural elucidation, such as NMR and X-ray crystallography and IR and UV spectroscopy, as well as biosynthetic techniques. Significant chapters consider the analytical methods for mycotoxin analyses, including enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay system and tandem mass spectrometry. The concluding chapter examines the mycotoxin analytical problem in taxonomic or ecological terms. This book is of value to food and feed researchers, scientists, and manufacturers who are interested in product contamination control.

Book Trichothecene Mycotoxicosis Pathophysiologic Effects 1989

Download or read book Trichothecene Mycotoxicosis Pathophysiologic Effects 1989 written by Val Richard Beasley and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2017-11-22 with total page 451 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There are instances of unresolved differences of opinion , as in the case of underlying biochemical mechanisms of action. It has been particularly challenging to interpret the diversity of effects induced by several trichothecenes when studied in various cells, tissues, and concentrations, and at dissimilar intervals. In the hope of shortening the time needed to overcome these difficulties, the authors have sought to discuss a range of observations delineating both areas of agreement and aspects remaining to be clarified. The final chapter of the volumes is comprised of an effort to integrate the various observations detailed throughout the book. With the continued efforts of not only the many dedicated scientists who served as contributors to these volumes, but from the many other authors cited herein and those to follow, out understanding of these interesting compounds will continue to expand. We have already learned enough to greatly reduce the adverse effects of the trichothecene mycotoxins on humans and other animals.

Book Diagnosis of Mycotoxicoses

    Book Details:
  • Author : J.L. Richard
  • Publisher : Springer Science & Business Media
  • Release : 2012-12-06
  • ISBN : 9400942354
  • Pages : 407 pages

Download or read book Diagnosis of Mycotoxicoses written by J.L. Richard and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 407 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Current problems associated with the mycotoxicoses include the recognition of an animal disease as being a mycotoxicosis and confirmation of diagnosis of the mycotoxicosis by satisfactory laboratory methods. By gathering a vast amount of scientific literature, diagnosticians can provide themselves with suitable informa tion for making such a diagnosis. However, the increased number of reported intoxications caused by fungi, the wide range in diversity of disease conditions and the chemical compounds causing the mycotoxicoses, and the ever-changing and rapid developments in the technology of mycotoxin analysis has made the gathering and assimilation of sufficient information by the diagnostician an insurmountable task. This is the reason for development of the symposium and the publication of this book; the first time that the subject of diagnosis of mycotoxicoses has been assembled in a single publication and as a compilation of topic papers by experts in this subject area. The UJNR panel on toxic microorganisms is interested in all aspects of intox ications by microorganisms as evidenced by its annual joint meetings in either the United States or Japan and its involvement in sponsoring numerous symposia and several publications in this broad scientific area. The overall mission of the National Animal Disease Center includes research efforts in the improvement or establishment of diagnostic methods for animal diseases. The UJNR panel and the NADC provided the funds and encouragement for the development of a symposium on the diagnosis of mycotoxicoses in the United States and . Tapan.

Book Basic Food Microbiology

Download or read book Basic Food Microbiology written by George Banwart and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 774 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The second edition of Basic Food Microbiology follows the same general outline as the highly successful first edition. The text has been revised and updated to include as much as possible of the large body of infor mation published since the first edition appeared. Hence, foodborne ill ness now includes listeriosis as well as expanded information about Campylobacter jejuni. Among the suggestions for altering the text was to include flow sheets for food processes. The production of dairy products and beer is now depicted with flow diagrams. In 1954, Herrington made the following statement regarding a review article about lipase that he published in thejournal of Dairy Science: "Some may feel that too much has been omitted; an equal number may feel that too much has been included. So be it." The author is grateful to his family for allowing him to spend the time required for composing this text. He is especially indebted to his partner, Sally, who gave assistance in typing, editing, and proofreading the manuscript. The author also thanks all of those people who allowed the use of their information in the text, tables, and figures. Without this aid, the book would not have been possible. 1 General Aspects of Food BASIC NEEDS Our basic needs include air that contains an adequate amount of oxy· gen, water that is potable, edible food, and shelter. Food provides us with a source of energy needed for work and for various chemical reactions.
