Book An Underwater Target Detection System for Electro Optical Imagery Data

Download or read book An Underwater Target Detection System for Electro Optical Imagery Data written by and published by . This book was released on 2010 with total page 8 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The problem of detecting underwater targets from Electro-optical (EO) images is considered in this paper. A blockbased log-likelihood ratio test has been developed for detection and segmentation of underwater mine-like objects in the EO images captured with a CCD-based image sensor. The main focus of this research is to develop a robust detection algorithm that can be used to detect low contrast and partial underwater objects from the EO imagery with low false alarm rate. The detection method involves identifying frames of interest (FOI) containing the potential targets. Once the FOI have been identified, regions of interest (ROI) within the FOI are segmented from the background. Performance of the detection method is tested in terms of probability of detection, false alarm rate, and receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves for FOI in the selected data runs. The algorithm shows promising results in target detection and generation of good silhouettes for subsequent classification.

Book Fish4Knowledge Collecting and Analyzing Massive Coral Reef Fish Video Data

Download or read book Fish4Knowledge Collecting and Analyzing Massive Coral Reef Fish Video Data written by Robert B. Fisher and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-04-04 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book gives a start-to-finish overview of the whole Fish4Knowledge project, in 18 short chapters, each describing one aspect of the project. The Fish4Knowledge project explored the possibilities of big video data, in this case from undersea video. Recording and analyzing 90 thousand hours of video from ten camera locations, the project gives a 3 year view of fish abundance in several tropical coral reefs off the coast of Taiwan. The research system built a remote recording network, over 100 Tb of storage, supercomputer processing, video target detection and tracking, fish species recognition and analysis, a large SQL database to record the results and an efficient retrieval mechanism. Novel user interface mechanisms were developed to provide easy access for marine ecologists, who wanted to explore the dataset. The book is a useful resource for system builders, as it gives an overview of the many new methods that were created to build the Fish4Knowledge system in a manner that also allows readers to see how all the components fit together.

Book Broadband Ultra Wideband Sensor System for Active and Passive Detection and Classification of Targets

Download or read book Broadband Ultra Wideband Sensor System for Active and Passive Detection and Classification of Targets written by and published by . This book was released on 2001 with total page 28 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report discusses a Broadband Bionic Sonar System and a signal processing technique for detection and identification of underwater targets. Since the sonar and radar target echoes are the solutions to the same Helmholtz Equation in their respective media, an Ultra Wideband Radar System can also be developed for target detection and identification base on the same principles and signal processing techniques. In the bionic sonar system with the resonance detection technique for detection and identification of underwater targets, it appears to mimic a dolphin's and/or a bat's acoustic sensory systems. It is conceivable that an Ultra-Wideband Radar System of the same detection technique can also be developed.

Book MAP PF Detection and Tracking of Underwater Acoustic Targets

Download or read book MAP PF Detection and Tracking of Underwater Acoustic Targets written by and published by . This book was released on 2009 with total page 13 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The goal of this project was to develop an automated detection and tracking algorithm for broadband targets using complex hydrophone data from a passive acoustic array. The algorithm is an integral part of a larger Coherent Automated Multi-Target Tracker (CAMTT) system under development by Metron, Inc. for Detection, Classification, and Localization (DCL) for passive Anti-Submarine Warfare (ASW). The algorithm integrates the Maximum a Posteriori Penalty Function (MAP-PF) tracking algorithm with the Likelihood Ratio Detection and Tracking (LRDT) methodology. The detection and tracking problem is treated as a joint detection and estimation problem and the combined system automatically (1) detects and drops targets, (2) jointly estimates bearing vs. time tracks for all targets, and (3) jointly estimates the received spectrum of these targets. The spectral estimates improve the detection and tracking capability and are used to aid the classification component of the CAMTT system.

Book TARGET CLASSIFICATION AND RECOGNITION USING UNDERWATER ACOUSTIC SIGNALS

Download or read book TARGET CLASSIFICATION AND RECOGNITION USING UNDERWATER ACOUSTIC SIGNALS written by and published by . This book was released on 2005 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Nowadays, fulfillment of the tactical operations in secrecy has great importance for especially subsurface and surface warfare platforms as a result of improvements in weapon technologies. Spreading out of the tactical operations to the larger areas has made discrimination of targets unavoidable. Due to enlargement of the weapon ranges and increasing subtle hostile threats as a result of improving technology, “visual” target detection methods left the stage to the computerized acoustic signature detection and evaluation methods. Despite this, the research projects have not sufficiently addressed in the field of acoustic signature evaluation. This thesis work mainly investigates classification and recognition techniques with TRN / LOFAR signals, which are emitted from surface and subsurface platforms and proposes possible adaptations of existing methods that may give better results if they are used with these signals. Also a detailed comparison has been made about the experimental results with underwater acoustic signals.

Book Detection and Classification of Fluctuating Targets

Download or read book Detection and Classification of Fluctuating Targets written by and published by . This book was released on 2001 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The structure of echoes observed in echo-location systems such as radar and sonar can exhibit significant variability caused by environmental effects and fluctuations in the target aspect. A technique for countering these effects and thereby improving the detection and classification of the target is investigated. The technique relies on being able to characterizes the target signal space using a low dimensional signal basis. For this purpose the Karhunen-Loeve expansion is used to construct the target signal space and in conjunction with the likelihood ratio test form the appropriate test statistic, which is the basis of the detector/classifier structure for distinguishing target returns from nontarget ones. This structure is sometimes referred to as the separable kernel receiver. With this structure in place the performance of the detector/classifier can be evaluated as a function of clutter type and target mismatch. Performance comparisons are also made with a peak detector and a matched filter processor detecting Rayleigh and Rician targets in Rayleigh clutter. The results are presented in the usual form of receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves.
