  • Author : V.V. Bogorodsky
  • Publisher : Springer Science & Business Media
  • Release : 2013-06-29
  • ISBN : 9400937210

Download or read book Ice Destruction written by V.V. Bogorodsky and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-06-29 with total page 305 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The problem of ice destruction comes most frequently to our attention in engineering glaciology and ice engineering because it is essential in the solution of many problems in the polar regions of the Earth. Ice destruction (like the destruction of any other material, in principle) is a complex problem at the junction of solid-state physics, continuum mechanics, and materials science. Ice, particularly sea ice, is characterized by known anomalies that can be explained by the simultaneous occurrence of solid, liquid and gaseous phases. Even minor temperature fluctuations cause changes in the relationship of these phases and, as a consequence, change the physico-mechanical properties of ice. New hydraulic engineering tasks, associated with the destruction of such a complex material, demand continuous improvement of methods and techniques. The present authors have brought these together in a form which is convenient for a wide range of users. This book covers only local ice destruction, by means other than icebreakers, requiring comparatively low consumption of power in proportion to the volume and mass of destroyed ice. Problems of natural ice destruction under the influence of solar radiation, tidal, wind and wave factors are not dis cussed. Mechanical and thermal methods were the first of many to be used for ice destruction. Their application has involved a greater num ber of techniques, so the first two chapters are the longest.

Book PROPERTIES AND FORMATION TECHNOLOGY OF GLUTINOUS BIOCOMPOSITE MATERIALS

Download or read book PROPERTIES AND FORMATION TECHNOLOGY OF GLUTINOUS BIOCOMPOSITE MATERIALS written by Kashytskyi V.P., Sadova O.L., Malets V.M. and published by International Science Group. This book was released on 2023-02-19 with total page 108 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The monograph presents the general characteristics and classification of biocomposite materials based on natural components, their advantages and scope of application are indicated. The mechanical properties of biocomposite materials based on a glutinous matrix and plant fillers were studied. The content of components was optimized. The formation modes of biocomposites with processing of the composition in physical fields were determined. The technology of recycling glutinous biocomposite products by thermo-mechanical processing of secondary raw materials has been developed. The monograph is intended for specialists in materials science of polymer composites and biocomposite materials. It will also be useful for graduate students, students, materials scientists, technologists and engineers of technical specialties.

Book WMD Arms Control in the Middle East

Download or read book WMD Arms Control in the Middle East written by Harald Müller and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2016-02-17 with total page 358 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Middle East is a hot spot of proliferation. It contains one state assumed to possess nuclear weapons, several states that tried and failed to develop a military nuclear capability, one state under suspicion of trying to do so, and it is the world region that witnessed the most frequent and severe employment of chemical weapons since the end of World War I. Notwithstanding, not a single arms control regime concerning weapons of mass destruction (WMD) covers the region as a whole. Instead we have seen several proliferation-related military operations which have rather contributed to destabilization than served non-proliferation. This volume, written under the auspices of the EU Consortium for Non-Proliferation and Disarmament determines the current state of diplomatic efforts to establish a WMD free zone in the Middle East. In doing so, it provides insights into central actors’ conflicting political positions, thereby explaining the stalemate of efforts to negotiate a WMD-free zone. Chapters written by renowned experts from academia and policy-oriented think tanks, as well as by next-generation Middle East and arms control experts, introduce the subject to the reader, give background information about arms control initiatives, provide technical expertise, and endeavour to make proposals for arms control measures in support of the creation of a Middle East WMD-free zone.

Book Design and Analysis of Composite Structures for Automotive Applications

Download or read book Design and Analysis of Composite Structures for Automotive Applications written by Vladimir Kobelev and published by John Wiley & Sons. Additionally, references and conclusions are presented in each chapter. Design and Analysis of Composite Structures for Automotive Applications: Chassis and Drivetrain offers complete coverage of chassis components made of composite materials and covers elastokinematics and component compliances of vehicles. It looks at parts made of composite materials such as stabilizer bars, wheels, half-axes, springs, and semi-trail axles. The book also provides information on leaf spring assembly for motor vehicles and motor vehicle springs comprising composite materials. Covers the basic principles for the design optimization using composite materials and mass reduction principles Evaluates the vertical, lateral, and roll stiffness of the vehicle, and explains the modelling of the vehicle stiffness Discusses the composite materials for the suspension and powertrain design Features closed form solutions of problems for car dynamics explained in details and illustrated pictorially Design and Analysis of Composite Structures for Automotive Applications: Chassis and Drivetrain is recommended primarily for engineers dealing with suspension design and development, and those who graduated from automotive or mechanical engineering courses in technical high school, or in other higher engineering schools.
