Book Destiny s Written Script

Download or read book Destiny s Written Script written by Patrice Yehuda and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2012-09-14 with total page 109 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What would you do when the only path to your destiny is the path you never wished for? Each destiny has a price that we must pay. The path of the cross is that which leads to the crown. Life triumphs over death. Death only brings out life. Death helps to reveal the power of life. The path which is common to all men is the path which leads to nowhere. God had determined the seasons long before time began. He had also determined their appointed times and duration. In the eternal order the unfavorable must come before the favorable, darkness must precede light and evil happens before good. The blessing cancels the curse and sin shall abound that grace may thereafter much more abound. The script is the eternal master plan. There is nothing that can ever be added to or taken away from the script. It is eternally perfect and complete in its design and concept. There must be a time when evil is allowed to hold sway but good holds the trump card of finality.

Book Futures after Progress

Download or read book Futures after Progress written by Chloe Ahmann and published by University of Chicago Press. This book was released on 2024-05-14 with total page 369 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A powerful ethnographic study of South Baltimore, a place haunted by toxic pasts in its pursuit of better futures. Factory fires, chemical explosions, and aerial pollutants have inexorably shaped South Baltimore into one of the most polluted places in the country. In Futures after Progress, anthropologist Chloe Ahmann explores the rise and fall of industrial lifeways on this edge of the city and the uncertainties that linger in their wake. Writing from the community of Curtis Bay, where two hundred years of technocratic hubris have carried lethal costs, Ahmann also follows local efforts to realize a good future after industry and the rifts competing visions opened between neighbors. Examining tensions between White and Black residents, environmental activists and industrial enthusiasts, local elders and younger generations, Ahmann shows how this community has become a battleground for competing political futures whose stakes reverberate beyond its six square miles in a present after progress has lost steam. And yet—as one young resident explains—“that’s not how the story ends.” Rigorous and moving, Futures after Progress probes the deep roots of our ecological predicament, offering insight into what lies ahead for a country beset by dreams deferred and a planet on the precipice of change.

Book Writing Beyond Pen and Parchment

Download or read book Writing Beyond Pen and Parchment written by Ricarda Wagner and published by Walter de Gruyter GmbH & Co KG. This book was released on 2019-10-21 with total page 348 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What can stories of magical engraved rings or prophetic inscriptions on walls tell us about how writing was perceived before print transformed the world? Writing beyond Pen and Parchment introduces readers to a Middle Ages where writing is not confined to manuscripts but is inscribed in the broader material world, in textiles and tombs, on weapons or human skin. Drawing on the work done at the Collaborative Research Centre “Material Text Cultures,” (SFB 933) this volume presents a comparative overview of how and where text-bearing artefacts appear in medieval German, Old Norse, British, French, Italian and Iberian literary traditions, and also traces the paths inscribed objects chart across multiple linguistic and cultural traditions. The volume’s focus on the raw materials and practices that shaped artefacts both mundane or fantastical in medieval narratives offers a fresh perspective on the medieval world that takes seriously the vibrancy of matter as a vital aspect of textual culture often overlooked.

This book was released on 2023-05-15 with total page 386 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: When Amanda Stevenson was fifteen, her parents took her to XUNANTUNICH, an ancient Mayan city. While there, archeologist working at the site unearthed the tomb of the city’s first Mayan leader. Taking advantage of this opportunity, Daniel Stevenson used his influence to allow his daughter to be present at the opening of the tomb. But as fate would have it, within the tomb, two sets of remains were found. Along with the Mayan leader was an alien corpse. Although no one had ever seen a being like this, the alien writings in the tomb matched those Daniel had seen in the ICON star system but hoped never to see again. Years later, on Mars, a drilling company discovers the remains of an underground alien outpost, destroyed thousands of years ago but belonging to the same race of beings as the one found in the Mayan tomb. Finishing her Masters degree in Archeology, Amanda goes to Mars with Archeologist Aston Farlow to uncover the secrets buried in the ancient alien outpost. Meanwhile, on ICON 5, explorers for the United Earth Reconnaissance Organization (UERO) are assigned to map out the planet’s unexplored lands. As they traverse great stretches of mountains, valleys, and thick forests, they discover an identical alien outpost to the one on Mars. This one however, is not so abandoned. Eventually, Amanda discovers a secret so profound that it causes her to question her own existence. Compelled by this knowledge, she returns to ICON to communicate with the alien beings. Beings that have been hiding for thousands of years from a malevolent evil bent on their complete and utter genocide. Beings that have awaited the coming of an ancient prophecy that could mean the difference between their freedom or final extinction. A prophecy thousands of years old imparted to their race by their Grand Oracle. A prophecy on an intercept course with the human race and coming of Amanda Stevenson.

Book Where is Language

Download or read book Where is Language written by Ruth Finnegan and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2020-06-11 with total page 159 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Language is central to human experience and our understanding of who we are, whether written or unwritten, sung or spoken. But what is language and how do we record it? Where does it reside? Does it exist and evolve within written sources, in performance, in the mind or in speech? For too long, ethnographic, aesthetic and sociolinguistic studies of language have remained apart from analyses emerging from traditions such as literature and performance. Where is Language? argues for a more complex and contextualized understanding of language across this range of disciplines, engaging with key issues, including orality, literacy, narrative, ideology, performance and the human communities in which these take place. Eminent anthropologist Ruth Finnegan draws together a lifetime of ethnographic case studies, reading and personal commentary to explore the roles and nature of language in cultures across the world, from West Africa to the South Pacific. By combining research and reflections, Finnegan discusses the multi-modality of language to provide an account not simply of vocabulary and grammar, but one which questions the importance of cultural settings and the essence of human communication itself.
