From that time on, she receives minimal support from her organization in the U.S.A. Seemingly left alone to operate in a country she dislikes and struggles to understand, Roz relies on skills she learned as an aspiring but unsuccessful actor in New York. In the process, she becomes involved in further intrigue at the international level, when her acting talents are put to a final test: war will be the outcome if they fail. Throughout these events, Roz takes pride in her imagination and improvisation. Book excerpt: 'As if someone were to hold up a lamp in the dark so that those with eyes could see - in exactly the same way Gotama has made the truth clear in various ways.' Gotama the Buddha, who lived the life of a wandering ascetic in northern India during the fifth century BCE, is looked to as the founder of one of the world's major religions. Book excerpt: Arius is the apprentice of a merchant. But when the legends he believed only as stories begin to unfold around him, he quickly becomes something more. From the snow capped peaks of the Rondail Mountains to the enchanted elven city of Sartanae, Arius journeys through Farahdin with his dragon, Guardus, fighting for a cause he believes is greater than any one being—restoring Farahdin to its former glory, a prosperous land where all forms of life can live harmoniously. That harmony once existed under the Ryù, when they were led by the elf Navarro and the dragon Faleor. But after Navarro and Faleor went missing, the Ryù fought amongst themselves for power. The sorcerer Contemno saw an opportunity to usurp Farahdin’s benevolent ruler and took the throne for himself. With his increasing power, he stole a magical scepter from the elves that can be used to control the dragons, living or dead. With this threat against the inhabitants of Farahdin, Contemno shattered the peace that once blanketed the kingdom. The shards were left broken for almost a hundred years until a dragon egg hatched for a merchant’s apprentice and thrust a young boy into a world of perils. With only Guardus and a small band of friends by his side, Arius must learn to navigate the dangerous realm of magic, legend, and betrayal, or Farahdin may fall to a fate even worse than Contemno.

Book Numbered Discourses

Download or read book Numbered Discourses written by Bhikkhu Sujato and published by SuttaCentral. This book was released on with total page 2199 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: SuttaCentral has published an entirely new translation of the four Pali Nikāyas by Bhikkhu Sujato, which is the first complete and consistent English translation of these core texts. This is an ebook version of Bhikkhu Sujato's translation of the Aṅguttara Nikāya, which can also be read at SuttaCentral website. The “Numbered” or “Numerical” Discourses are usually known as Aṅguttara Nikāya in Pali, abbreviated AN. However, the Pali tradition also knows the form Ekottara (“one-up” or “incremental”), and this is the form usually found in the northern collections. These collections organize texts in numbered sets, from one to eleven. Compared to the other nikāyas, they are more oriented to the lay community. The Ekottarikāgama (EA) in Chinese is a highly unusual text, which features a range of variations within itself when it comes even to basic doctrines. It shares considerably less in common with the Pali Aṅguttara than the other collections do with their counterparts. In addition, there is a partial Ekottarikāgama in Chinese, as well as a variety of individual discourses and fragments in Chinese and Sanskrit. This translation of Aṅguttara Nikāya was updated on March 6th, 2023

Book The Soul s Long Journey

Download or read book The Soul s Long Journey written by Edward Reaugh Smith and published by SteinerBooks. This book was released on 2003 with total page 364 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Here are amazing insights showing reincarnation to be deeply and powerfully revealed in the Bible's most fundamental aspects. How and why have these insights escaped attention for so long? At last, they are uncovered here by a confluence of conventional Bible study and the epochal spiritual discoveries of Rudolf Steiner. With particular emphasis on the organic provisions of the Old Testament, Smith shows both what the assumptions of the Master's hearers were and how the New Testament confirms the ancient heritage. Arising from the fullness of the canon is an exciting story of the long journey of humanity and every human soul, each a "beloved sheep" whom the Creator is unwilling to lose. Combining a lifetime of biblical study and teaching, fifteen years investigating and contemplating Rudolf Steiner's vast works, and almost three decades of applying the analytical skill required in an intense law practice, Smith has produced a potential classic the serious Bible student can ill afford to ignore.

Book Studies in Jaina History and Culture

Download or read book Studies in Jaina History and Culture written by Peter Flügel and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2006-02-01 with total page 596 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The last ten years have seen interest in Jainism increasing, with this previously little-known Indian religion assuming a significant place in religious studies. Studies in Jaina History and Culture breaks new ground by investigating the doctrinal differences and debates amongst the Jains rather than presenting Jainism as a seamless whole whose doctrinal core has remained virtually unchanged throughout its long history. The focus of the book is the discourse concerning orthodoxy and heresy in the Jaina tradition, the question of omniscience and Jaina logic, role models for women and female identity, Jaina schools and sects, religious property, law and ethics. The internal diversity of the Jaina tradition and Jain techniques of living with diversity are explored from an interdisciplinary point of view by fifteen leading scholars in Jaina studies. The contributors focus on the principal social units of the tradition: the schools, movements, sects and orders, rather than Jain religious culture in abstract. Peter Flügel provides a representative snapshot of the current state of Jaina studies that will interest students and academics involved in the study of religion or South Asian cultures.

Download or read book Dying to Be Reborn written by Robert Colacurcio and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2013-11-15 with total page 115 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book explores some of the many similarities and parallels between the birth and death process. It does not rely on the testimony of people who have had near death experiences. Neither does it base its argument on the kind of mystical experience that is not available to most people. The exploration of this material requires only the active critical participation of the reader. Therefore, neither faith nor the testimony of some authority is necessary; only the willingness to suspend judgment until the deeper resources of ones own experience can be critically examined. My view is that in many ways culture in the West has it upside down and backwards. In my own small way, I am trying to counteract a cultural bias, that in its narrow definition of wisdom, has virtually nothing to say about soul cultivation and the process of dying to be reborn.
