Book Tourism in the Kyrgyz Republic

Download or read book Tourism in the Kyrgyz Republic written by Sadyrbek Kozhokulov and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2021-10-30 with total page 158 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book aims to identify the impact of tourism on social and economic development in the Issyk-Kul region of Kyrgyzstan, and to predict the development of the tourism industry and identify any limiting factors for the development of the tourism industry in the Republic as a whole. The impacts of tourism on the region have been poorly understood since the country gained independence in 1991, and so improved methods for identifying and increasing the contribution of the tourism industry to the economic and social development of the region are needed. The book assesses the impact of tourism on the socio-economic situation in the Issyk-Kul region is assessed on the basis of statistical modelling and GIS mapping, provides a comparative analysis of the categories and types of tourism in the regions of the Republic, in particular in the Issyk-Kul region, and identifies factors that have a negative impact on the country’s tourism potential, as well as the shortcomings and prospects for future development. The book's primary audience will be scholars and researchers whose research focuses on the socio-economic impacts of tourism, as well as students and planners. It is expected that it will become a source of information and inspiration for all readers who feel responsible for initiating sustainable development and sustainable use of tourism resources in Kyrgyzstan and other countries.

Book excerpt: Many countries have a rich tradition of domestic travel and holidaying which not only predates but exceeds mass international travel. This is particularly the case in Asia where recent economic prosperity and trends in globalization have not merely spurred, but continue to shape traditions in domestic tourism. This book is the first to address specifically the continuities and changes in domestic tourism in Asia. It explores the ethos of domestic travel and holiday-making in order to understand the distinctive common strands that underlie conventional and contemporary tourism practices, against the local and global backdrop. A considerable range of countries is covered in the case studies, including those with patrimonial histories, namely China and India, the economically developed nation-state of Japan and the microstates of Taiwan, Singapore, Macao and Hong Kong, besides the coastal countries of Malaysia, Philippines, Laos and Vietnam, as well as the land-locked countries of Kyrgyzstan and Mongolia. The book presents some of the many interfaces of Asian cultural and natural heritages with tourism, while giving due considerations to today's political and economic realities.

Book Tourism and Foreign Direct Investment

Download or read book Tourism and Foreign Direct Investment written by H. Cristina Jönsson and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2022-03-03 with total page 204 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the first volume to examine and shed significant light on the issues, challenges and prospects presented by foreign direct investment (FDI) in tourism - a topic of increasing relevance in light of the covid-19 pandemic and economic consequences. This book addresses the need to examine the TFDI phenomenon considering resilient tourism development approaches and includes discussion on impacts of a rapidly evolving global pandemic on tourism. Recognising that its impact on tourism has only just begun, the book includes early estimates of the damage to the tourism economy and TFDI over 2020 and beyond. It considers how the COVID-19 pandemic may change society, the economy, and tourism, and how some of the key research needs to understand these changes and contribute to a more sustainable post-pandemic tourism sector. Through a collection of chapters focusing on principles, practices and a diverse range of destination case studies, the book considers TFDI from the economic, social and environmental and regulatory perspectives. Thus, the book will advance understanding of the positive and negative impacts of TFDI as well as how emerging problems and wider implications for local economies and communities can be managed more sustainably, while also discussing the transformative opportunities offered by TFDI regarding key economic, social and environmental issues. This will be essential reading for upper-level students and researchers in the field of tourism development.
