Book excerpt: It's Friday night, and Derek Collins has a slight problem, he's all out of weed. That's right the herb, the Ganja, Mary Jane, or good old fashioned grass. With his normal guy out of town, Derek will have to do the unthinkable: try to score on his own. What starts as simple lead to scoring spirals into an evening of debauchery, violence and so many WTF moments we couldn't even keep count (but honestly we didn't try). Derek will have to avoid the clutches of the sex-starved four hundred pound stripper. Assist a "street" Anthropologist with tagging and releasing Hipsters back into the wild. It's going to be a very long night as every turn brings him more and more trouble. From a cult with a fiendish surprise in their pants, to a deranged drag queen's "floor show". And even a kangaroo court where grammar is on trial, and punishable by death! All Derek wanted was an eighth, all he got were Despicable People.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As much as we hate to admit it and don't want to hear it, injustice happens on a routine basis in both big cities and small towns. Inequality happens more often when there is no one policing the police or other authoritative figures. When these individuals start to see themselves as invincible, it is not only dangerous but disastrous. What may seem innocent to one is life-altering to another. Lack of respect for self, life and people in general often adds to the number of wrongs that occur on a routine basis. People are mistreated every day by individuals who are left unscathed by their inappropriate and often reckless actions. The reluctance to get involved is part of the problem. Individuals are busy with their own lives and their own responsibilities; they rarely will take away from themselves for another's problems when it means getting involved beyond a superficial action. Abuse, neglect and cover-up are all discussed in the stories of this book. Unfortunately, the damage to the victims is done and they will continue to suffer the consequences of someone else's thoughtless actions. Statements such as: 'move on', 'forgive and forget' and 'put it behind you' are easier said than done when you have had your entire world upended, when your faith in humanity has been lost and when you perceive a lack of caring in the environment around you. These stories are based on real incidents that were swept under the rug. What if you or a loved one is next?

His research on the relationship between Christian end-time prophecy and Islamic expectations of world domination will shock readers and shape the debate over radical Islam for years to come. Book Adult Bible Studies Summer 2021 Student

Download or read book Adult Bible Studies Summer 2021 Student written by Michelle J. Morris and published by Cokesbury. This book was released on 2021-04-20 with total page 136 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The three units of Bible lessons in this quarter unify around the theme, Respond. The lessons move through various responses people of faith are called to make as they live out their faith in both good times and difficult ones. Unit 1: Intended for Good The Genesis story of Joseph and his brothers is one of the great stories from the Bible, with forgiveness and grace among its underlying themes. As the story stretches over several chapters of Genesis, the four weeks of this unit give us ample time to explore it and see how the meaning of its events changed as Joseph recognized God at work behind the scenes. Scriptures: Genesis 37:5-28; Genesis 39:1-21; Genesis 41:1-16, 25-32; Genesis 45:1-15 Spiritual Practice: Forgiveness Unit 2: The People Next Door “Neighbor” is an important theme in both the Old and New Testaments, and so this four-lesson unit delves into it from several perspectives. The first lesson (Lesson 5 in this quarter) gathers various verses from Proverbs on that topic. The second lesson, using a passage from the book of Ruth, invites us to think about what it means to be a neighbor to immigrants. The third lesson looks in the book of Acts for how the early church leaders incorporated neighborliness into the church’s structure. And the fourth lesson takes us to Mark’s Gospel for an example of four individuals who were true neighbors to a man in need. Scriptures: Proverbs 3:27-30; 6:1-5; 25:20-23; Ruth 2:4-16; Acts 6:1-7; Mark 2:1-12 Spiritual Practice: Scripture Unit 3: The Five Stages of Job As suffering in some form comes to most of us at some point (or points) in life, it is useful to consider how Job, who suffered greatly, responded to it, and to learn from his experience. The five lessons of this unit show us five diverse ways Job responded to his calamities: worship, resignation, protest, angry despair, and acceptance. While not suggesting that all of these are useful in every case, the lessons help us recognize what may be going on in our spirits when suffering overtakes us. Scriptures: Job 1:8-20; Job 1:21-22, 2:7-10; Job 19:1-6, 13-19; Job 30:16-23; Job 40:1-5; 41:1-10; 42:1-6 Spiritual Practice: Lament

Book excerpt: Polly Pullar has had a passion for red squirrels since childhood. As a wildlife rehabilitator, she knows the squirrel on a profoundly personal level and has hand-reared numerous litters of orphan kits, eventually returning them to the wild. In this book she shares her experiences and love for the squirrel and explores how our perceptions have changed. Heavily persecuted until the 1960s, it has since become one of the nation's most adored mammals. But we are now racing against time to ensure its long-term survival in an ever-changing world. Set against the beautiful backdrop of Polly's Perthshire farm, where she works continuously to encourage wildlife great and small, she highlights how nature can, and indeed will, recover if only we give it a chance. In just two decades, her efforts have brought spectacular results, and numerous squirrels and other animals visit her wild farm every day.
