Strictly ornamental plants are excluded. The species treated are: (1) Those that have actually been used for their erosion-control value; (2) those with known records of use by wildlife; and (3) those of significance to the soil and wildlife conservationist for some other particularly pertinent reason. However, both native and introduced legumes in all parts of the United States have been considered in compiling the list. About 400 species are treated in this publication, 128 of which are illustrated. Any legume not listed may be considered to have no erosion-control or wildlife values which have come to the author's attention.

Unlike other books on white-tailed deer in places where rainfall is relatively high and the environment stable, this book takes an ecological approach to deer management in the semiarid lands of Oklahoma, Texas, and northern Mexico. These are the least productive of white-tail habitats, where periodic drought punctuates long-term weather patterns. The book's focus on this landscape across political borders is one of its original and lasting contributions. Ruminant enteric methane is a substantial component of methane produced by agriculture. This book presents novel and established methods in quantifying and reducing enteric methane emission from ruminants in different production systems. The book covers different types of ruminants including cattle, sheep, and goats. The chapters are contributed by scientists and authors from different parts of the world, demonstrating the importance of this problem and the universal drive for immediate and sustainable solutions. Although, biologically speaking, the production of enteric methane cannot be reduced to zero, high emissions are an indicator of inefficient digestion of feed in the rumen and low utilisation of feed energy.
