Book Designing Car Interiors Volume 2

Download or read book Designing Car Interiors Volume 2 written by Tim Pilsbury and published by . This book was released on 2019-09-27 with total page 110 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Designing Car Interiors, Volume 2 is the second book of a series of three books. To recap, Volume 1 took a brief look at car interior design history and culture, with a particular focus on American, British, European, and Japanese design, in addition to touching on how socio-economics can bear influence on said design. To illustrate the design philosophy of said car cultures, I compared and contrasted the evolution of a number of my favorite vintage car dashboards through to the present day. The last section of the book introduced the basics of research, sketching, and rendering skills, emphasizing their importance to communicate and promote ideas in the context of a design teamand studio.Throughout my career, I have been privileged to work in some of the most interesting and creative automotive design studios. I was, and still am, fortunate enough to witness, and be part of what I consider an extraordinary process. With this in mind, Volume 2 shifts gears to look at several projects worked on in different design studios around the world, - I talk about the design studio settings, as well as concept and production vehicle projects that took place in these studios. Volume 3 will focus on writing a project brief, research, and project execution. Our Volume 2 journey starts in Barcelona at SEAT design, then moves across the Atlantic to California with stops at Nissan Design America and my first start-up experience, at the V-Vehicle Company. We finally jet across the Pacific to another start-up, Shanghai's Qoros Auto Co., Ltd.Of course, for car designers, these are everyday occurrences, but for those not working in this profession or students intent on becoming designers, I hope the experience shared in this book gives you a decent idea of what goes on behind the scenes. As with the previous book, my intent here is not to critique or analyze these projects, but instead offer some insight, for those not familiar, into car design projects from sketch through to production car. Using actual projects serves to not only illustrate, but also bring this remarkable process to life. This is not an attempt at an historical account, but rather a way to illustrate the great effort and challenge that goes behind designing the car interior most of us take for granted, as we sit in ordrive them.

Book excerpt: You may have noticed that most car design books tend to focus on exterior design. However, with a growing demand in the industry for interior designers, I hope that this book will encourage (transportation design) students and (car) designers to take a much-needed closer look at this equally important aspect of car design.I have always enjoyed teaching and being able to incorporate my industry experience to deliver pithier lessons. Through these books, I wanted to expand on this experience to reach a larger audience of not only students but also those just curious about car design, case studies or perhaps another designer's point of view.As this is a rather hefty topic, I have split this book into three volumes: Volume 1 includes a brief history section looking back at a few of my favorite heritage car interiors and what shaped them, as well as the basics of research, sketching, and rendering. Volume 2 covers five Case Studies from SEAT Design, Nissan Design America, and the V-Vehicle Company. It examines the concepts for these interior designs, how they were started, the concept sketches, and the thought processes behind them. Volume 3 is geared toward students and professionals, as it runs through the design process."Lets design a car interior" mimics a university design project, this covers writing a project brief from research, through ideation, and execution.

Download or read book Automotive Upholstery Interior Restoration written by Fred Mattson and published by CarTech Inc. This book was released on 2017-09-15 with total page 194 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: After disassembling and gutting your car, it is easy to feel that you're in way over your head when it comes to the upholstery. This is why so many do-it-yourself restorers outsource the work, at considerable expense, to an experienced upholstery shop. Taking the time to acquire the skills for upholstery restoration may feel like a daunting task, but what if an experienced upholsterer presented every skill you needed to restore upholstery yourself? Starting with a list of necessary tools, author Fred Mattson guides you through all the required tasks, including seat restoration; door panel removal, patterning, assembly, and installation; headliner removal and installation; carpet cutting; and even convertible top restoration. The easy-to-follow step-by-step presentation allows for a thorough understanding of all the processes. Every photo in this book provides a hands-on approach that shows you how to repair and restore a car’s interior to concours, show-quality specifications. Other restoration books may show you beautifully restored interiors, but they don't show you how to produce them. This book helps you develop the skills needed with instruction from a professional upholsterer, saving you thousands of dollars over outsourcing the restoration. If you are interested in saving money, doing a complete restoration yourself, or simply want to know how it's done, this book is a handy addition to your automotive library.

As the founder and creative director of DwellStudio—which is famous for its brightly colored, graphic textile designs for home furnishings—designer Christiane Lemieux challenges tradition in a quintessentially American way, championing a fresh, unconventional approach to creating a beautiful and comfortable home. Lemieux emboldens readers to push aside stuffy, professionally-designed décor, showing them instead how to infuse their own personality into their home. Undecorate profiles twenty homes from all over the country, revealing their owners’ love of imperfection and penchant for surprise and unusual juxtapositions while inspiring readers to follow their own whimsy and practicalities in their personal spaces. An anglophile creates an English manor in Hollywood, mixing British flea-market finds with midcentury furniture. A car fanatic turns a vintage Airstream trailer into a master bedroom and situates it in the middle of a vast industrial loft in downtown Chicago. A couple transforms a log house in Nashville, Tennessee, by blending their modern and eclectic styles with the home’s rustic charm. Though the designs differ widely, the spaces all express an open-minded attitude. Some homes embrace their contexts, while others transcend them. All are shaped by instinct and imagination and share innovative ideas that readers can use to organically and elegantly create their home to match their lifestyle and tastes. Lemieux gets to the essence of the homeowners’ distinctive styles, pinpointing the transformative ideas, thoughtful details, and useful solutions that make each home memorable.
