Download or read book Radiochemical Analysis written by James R. DeVoe and published by . This book was released on 1966 with total page 174 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A Mossbauer spectrometer which uses optical interferometry in the Doppler drive, and the mechanical design for the electromechanical drive described in last years report are presented. A description of chemical shift of iron compounds is given. The use of a correction factor for certain source detector geometries are described for Mossbauer spectroscopy. A new source of Sn(119m) in palladium which produces a very narrow line width is also described. For the first time a trace element has been certified in a Standard Reference Material with the assistance of the activation analysis technique. Flux measurements for the NRL reactor are given. A number of special analyses for various NBS projects by activation analysis are described (e.g. argon in silicon, chlorine in polystyrene, hafnium in zirconium). A beta-gamma sum coincidence gamma ray spectrometer is described. A constant potential electrochemical method of analysis using radioisotopic tracers is presented which has potential high sensitivity. A method of using radioisotopic tracers in heterogeneous equilibrium between an aqueous medium of cobalt to be analyzed and manganese dioxide impregnated filter paper is described. Some results on the precision of the substoichiometric radioisotope dilution analysis of silver and iron are presented.
Download or read book Pressure Systems Casebook written by John Wintle and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2004-07-02 with total page 170 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Pressure Systems Casebook contains a collection of papers drawn from two IMechE seminars that will be of particular interest to students and engineers who want to broaden their knowledge and learn from experience and history. The authors' backgrounds cover a range of perspectives, from representing industrial users of pressure systems to regulators, research, and engineering consultants. Complete contents: Lessons from failures of gas cylinders used for dispensing beverages Experience from Health and Safety laboratory investigations Insurance aspects of pressure systems failures Failure investigation for commercial purposes - system failures leading to the collapse of storage vessels under partial vacuum Reliable technical failure investigation Failure design procedures in the new European Pressure Vessel Standard EN 13445 Causes of vibration fatigue in process pipework - a new methodology to assess the risk Avoiding vibration-induced fatigue failures in process pipework Lessons learned from pressure system failures Pressure systems contain stored energy and the threat of damaging failure is ever present. Failures of pressure systems still occur and are costly to those affected; yet the main causes, consequences, and methods of investigation are not widely known. Pre-existing defects are a major cause of failures and near-failures in pressure systems, yet many can be avoided by greater awareness of the circumstances in which they arise.

Download or read book On Book Design written by Richard Hendel and published by Yale University Press. This book was released on 1998-01-01 with total page 236 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: How is a book designed? What do book designers think about as they turn manuscripts into printed books? In this unique and appealing volume, the award-winning book designer Richard Hendel and eight other talented book designers discuss their approaches and working methods. They consider the problems posed by a wide range of projects--selection of a book's size and shape, choice of typeface for text and display, arrangement of type on the page, and determination of typographic details for all parts of the book within manufacturing and budget limitations. As omnipresent as books are, few readers are aware of the "invisible" craft of book designing. The task a book designer faces is different from that faced by other designers. The challenge, says Hendel, isn't to create something different or pretty or clever but to discover how to best serve the author's words. Hendel does not espouse a single philosophy of design or offer a set of instructions; he shows that there are many ways to design a book. In detailed descriptions of the creative process, Hendel and the eight other designers, who represent extensive experience in trade and scholarly publishing in the United States and Great Britain, show how they achieve the most effective visual presentation of words, offering many examples to illustrate their choices. Written not only for seasoned and novice book designers, this book will fascinate others in publishing as well as all readers and authors who are curious to know how books end up looking the way they do.

Chapters that are no longer pertinent have been eliminated in this edition, with most chapters being completely rewritten, expanded, and updated Additionally, new chapters pertaining to research methodologies in educational technology have been added due to expressed reader interest. Each chapter now contains an extensive literature review, documenting and explaining the most recent, outstanding research, including major findings and methodologies employed. The Handbook authors continue to be international leaders in their respective fields; the list is cross disciplinary by design and great effort was taken to invite authors outside of the traditional instructional design and technology community.
Download or read book Contract Law in South Africa written by Louis F. van Huyssteen and published by Kluwer Law International B.V.. This book was released on 2017-07-20 with total page 194 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Derived from the renowned multi-volume International Encyclopaedia of Laws, this practical analysis of the law of contracts in South Africa covers every aspect of the subject – definition and classification of contracts, contractual liability, relation to the law of property, good faith, burden of proof, defects, penalty clauses, arbitration clauses, remedies in case of non-performance, damages, power of attorney, and much more. Lawyers who handle transnational contracts will appreciate the explanation of fundamental differences in terminology, application, and procedure from one legal system to another, as well as the international aspects of contract law. Throughout the book, the treatment emphasizes drafting considerations. An introduction in which contracts are defined and contrasted to torts, quasi-contracts, and property is followed by a discussion of the concepts of ‘consideration’ or ‘cause’ and other underlying principles of the formation of contract. Subsequent chapters cover the doctrines of ‘relative effect’, termination of contract, and remedies for non-performance. The second part of the book, recognizing the need to categorize an agreement as a specific contract in order to determine the rules which apply to it, describes the nature of agency, sale, lease, building contracts, and other types of contract. Facts are presented in such a way that readers who are unfamiliar with specific terms and concepts in varying contexts will fully grasp their meaning and significance. Its succinct yet scholarly nature, as well as the practical quality of the information it provides, make this book a valuable time-saving tool for business and legal professionals alike. Lawyers representing parties with interests in South Africa will welcome this very useful guide, and academics and researchers will appreciate its value in the study of comparative contract law.
