The information and data published by several government agencies, National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), Federal Emergency Management Administration, FEMA, US Army Corps of Engineers, USACE, and Florida Department of Environmental Protection, FEDP were compiled, compared and assessed. Based on this information recommendations are made regarding 50, 100 and 500 year return interval hurricane storm surge hydrographs for use by the Florida Department of Transportation in estimating design flow conditions at its coastal roadways and bridges.

At present, very little information is available on the effect that tidal inlets have on these open coast storm surge hydrographs. Furthermore, current modeling practice enforces a single design hydrograph along the open coast boundary for bridge scour models. This thesis expands on these concepts and provides a more fundamental understanding on both of these modeling areas.
