Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In a conceptual design of the accelerating systems for a 4-TeV[mu][sup+]-[mu][sup[minus]] collider, three recirculating superconducting linacs (with energies reaching 70 GeV (with 350 MHz SRF), 250 GeV (800 MHz) and 2,000 GeV (1,300 GHz), respectively) are used. The authors briefly describe design concepts for the acceleration features, superconducting RF cavities, input couplers, RF control and RF power systems.

Book An Energy Upgrade from TESLA to a High energy mu sup mu sup minus Collider

Download or read book An Energy Upgrade from TESLA to a High energy mu sup mu sup minus Collider written by and published by . This book was released on 2001 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We discuss the possible extension of a TESLA 250X250 GeV SRF e[sup+]e[sup -] linear collider to a multi-TeV[mu][sup+][mu][sup -] collider, by future addition of a muon source, return arcs for recirculation and a collider ring. The TESLA SRF systems are potentially also suitable for multiturn acceleration of muon bunches, and could be adapted for use in a recirculating[mu]-linac. Many problems and design issues would need to be resolved, and further study is needed.

Book Acceleration to Collisions for The mu sup mu sup minus Collider

Download or read book Acceleration to Collisions for The mu sup mu sup minus Collider written by and published by . This book was released on 2001 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The authors discuss the problem of transforming muon beam bunches from a low-energy cooled state (E[sub[mu]][approximately] 1 GeV) to short, high-energy bunches matched to high-energy collision conditions (E[sub[mu]][approximately] 2 TeV). In this process the beam energy must increase by[approximately] three orders of magnitude, while the bunch length must be reduced by[approximately] two orders of magnitude (to[approximately] 3mm), while beam emittance dilution and beam losses, particularly through decay, must be minimized. From general considerations, they discuss possible acceleration scenarios including rapid-cycling synchrotron and recirculating linac options. The presently favored choice is a multi-stage recirculating linac system, which is discussed, and initial simulations of possible scenarios are presented. Future directions for development are discussed.

Book A High energy High luminosity mu sup minus mu sup minus Collider

Download or read book A High energy High luminosity mu sup minus mu sup minus Collider written by and published by . This book was released on 2005 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We present a candidate design for a high-energy high luminosity [mu][sup +]-[mu] collider, with E[sub cm] = 4 TeV, L = 10[sup 34] cm[sup [minus]2]S[sup [minus]1], using only existing technology. The design uses a rapid-cycling medium-energy proton synchrotron, which produces proton beam pulses which are focused onto two [pi]- producing targets, with two [pi]-decay transport lines producing [mu][sup +][prime]s and [mu][sup [minus]][prime]. The [mu][prime]s are collected, rf-rotated, cooled and compressed into a recirculating linac for acceleration, and then transferred into a storage ring collider. The keys to high luminosity are maximal [mu] collection and cooling; innovations with these goals are included.

Book Design of the Muon Collider Lattice Present Status

Download or read book Design of the Muon Collider Lattice Present Status written by and published by . This book was released on 2003 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We discuss a preliminary design for a high luminosity 4 TeV center of mass[mu][sup+][mu][sup -] collider ring. A possible lattice for a muon collider has been described. The design satisfies most of the collider requirements, although it is not fully realistic. Error and tolerance analyses are yet to be performed as well as tracking to determine the dynamic aperture and achievable luminosity. In order to make the final-focus design realistic, drift spaces must be introduced between all magnet elements, and the lengths of the insertions will have to be increased in order to achieve the required dispersion values in the sextupoles with reasonable dipole fields.

Download or read book High energy High luminosity mu sup mu sup minus Collider Design written by and published by . This book was released on 2001 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We discuss the design of a high luminosity (l0[sup 35] cm-[sup[minus]2] s[sup[minus]1]), high energy (2+ 2 TeV)[mu][sup+][mu][sup[minus]] collider, starting from the proton accelerator needed to generate the muon beams and proceeding through the muon storage ring.

Book 2 times 2 TeV mu sup mu sup minus Collider Lattice and Accelerator detector Interface Study

Download or read book 2 times 2 TeV mu sup mu sup minus Collider Lattice and Accelerator detector Interface Study written by and published by . This book was released on 2001 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The design for a high-luminosity[mu][sup+][mu][sup[minus]] superconducting storage ring is presented based on first-pass calculations. Special attention is paid to two Iowa interaction regions (IR) whose optics are literally interlaced with the collider detectors. Various sources of backgrounds in IR are explored via realistic Monte Carlo simulations. An improved design of the collider lattice in the neighborhood of the interaction points (EP) is determined by the need to reduce significantly background levels in the detectors.

Book Progress on the Design of a High Luminosity mu sup mu sup minus Collider

Download or read book Progress on the Design of a High Luminosity mu sup mu sup minus Collider written by and published by . This book was released on 2001 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Parameters are presented for a 2+ 2 TeV muon collider with a luminosity of L= 10[sup 35] cm[sup[minus]2] s[sup[minus]1]. The design is not optimized for performance, neither for cost; however, it does suffice to allow one to make a credible case that a muon collider is a serious possibility for particle physics, that could open up the realm of physics above the 1 TeV scale, allowing, for example, copious production of supersymmetric particles or a detailed study of the strongly-interacting scenario of electroweak symmetry breaking.

Book Radiation Issues of A mu sup mu sup minus Collider

Download or read book Radiation Issues of A mu sup mu sup minus Collider written by and published by . This book was released on 2001 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Radiation issues of high-luminosity 2 x 2 TeV and 250 x 250 GeV[mu][sup+][mu][sup -] colliders are considered. A series of dedicated simulations have been performed with the MARS code to understand formation of radiation fields in the complex and to assure that there are ways to meet the stringent regulation requirements. Considered in detail are the main collider arcs, the interaction region and absorption of spent muon beam. Prompt and residual radiation is analyzed. It is shown that for both operational and accidental beam loss radiation problems appear quite solvable.

Book Lattice Design for the LHEC Recirculating Linac

Download or read book Lattice Design for the LHEC Recirculating Linac written by and published by . This book was released on 2011 with total page 3 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this paper, we present a lattice design for the Large Hadron Electron Collider (LHeC) recirculating linac. The recirculating linac consists of one roughly 3-km long linac hosting superconducting RF (SRF) accelerating cavities, two arcs and one transfer line for the recirculation. In two passes through a pulsed SRF linac the electron beam can get a maximum energy of 140 GeV. Alternatively, in the Energy Recovery Linac (ERL) option the beam passes through a CW linac four times (two passes for acceleration and two for deceleration) for a maximum energy of 60 GeV.

Book Design of the Muon Collider Isochronous Storage Ring Lattice

Download or read book Design of the Muon Collider Isochronous Storage Ring Lattice written by and published by . This book was released on 2001 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The muon collider would ex-tend limitations of the e[sup+] e- colliders and provide new physics potentials with a possible discovery of the heavy Higgs bosons. At the maximum energy of 2 TeV the projected luminosity is of the order of 10[sup 35] cm[sup[minus]2]s[sup[minus]1]. The colliding[mu][sup+][mu][sup[minus]] bunches have to be focused to a very small transverse size of few tenths of[mu]m which is accomplished by the betatron functions at the crossing point of[beta]*= 3mm. This requires the longitudinal space of the same length 3 mm. These very short bunches at 2 TeV could circulate only in a quasi-isochronous storage ring where the momentum compaction is very dose to zero. We report on a design of the muon collider isochronous lattice. The momentum compaction is brought to zero by having the average value of the dispersion function through dipoles equal to zero. This has been accomplished by a combination of the FODO cells together with a low beta insertion. The dispersion function oscillates between negative and positive values.

Book An Induction Linac Approach to Phase Rotation of a Muon Bunch in the Production Region Of mu sup mu sup minus Colliders

Download or read book An Induction Linac Approach to Phase Rotation of a Muon Bunch in the Production Region Of mu sup mu sup minus Colliders written by and published by . This book was released on 2001 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The possibility of using an induction linac for phase rotation, or equivalently flattening the head to tail mean energy sweep, of a muon bunch in the production region of a[mu][sup+][minus][mu][sup[minus]] is examined. Axial spreading of an accelerating bunch is analyzed and the form of appropriate induction cell voltage waveforms is derived. A set of parametric equations for the induction accelerator structure is given and specific solutions are presented which demonstrate the technological feasibility of the induction linac approach to phase rotation.
