Book Seawall Design

Download or read book Seawall Design written by R. S. Thomas and published by Butterworth-Heinemann. This book was released on 2015-05-11 with total page 381 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Seawall Design focuses on all aspects of seawall design, from the broader issues of coastal management and other options for coastal defense and environmental assessment, to problem definition and project planning; data collection and interpretation; conceptual and detailed design; design for construction and maintenance; and materials to be used. The reader is guided with respect to the range of potential problems, their definition, and possible solutions, as well as the key functional requirements of a seawall and the methods of design to take due account of engineering and environmental and economic considerations. Comprised of eight chapters, this book begins with an overview of the principal function of a seawall and the guidelines for seawall design covering all relevant considerations including environmental aspects, construction, and long-term management. The discussion then turns to regular monitoring of coastal management, options for coastal defense, and the impact of phased works on coastal management. Subsequent chapters deal with project planning and environmental aspects of seawall design; data collection, analysis, and interpretation; and overall concept and types of seawall structure;. Design considerations for a seawall are described, starting with hydraulic performance, the overall stability of the embankment and coastal cliffs as well as structural loads. The book concludes with an assessment of financial and economic considerations in the planning, design, construction and maintenance of seawalls. This monograph is intended for engineers involved in the planning and design of seawalls.

They directly control wave and storm surge action or to stabilize a beach which provides protection to the coast. This book provides the most up-to-date technical advances on the design and construction of coastal structures and sea defenses.Written by renowned practicing coastal engineers, this edited volume focuses on the latest technology applied in planning, design and construction, effective engineering methodology, unique projects and problems, design and construction challenges, and other lessons learned. Many books have been written about the theoretical treatment of coastal and ocean structures. Much less has been written about the practical practice aspect of ocean structures and sea defenses. This comprehensive book fills the gap. It is an essential source of reference for professionals and researchers in the areas of coastal, ocean, civil, and geotechnical engineering.

Download or read book Random Seas and Design of Maritime Structures written by Yoshimi Goda and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2000 with total page 478 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Random waves are the most important constituent of the sea environment. They make the design of maritime structures quite different from that of structures on land. In this book, the concept of randomness in waves for the design of breakwaters, seawalls, and harbor structures is fully explored for easy comprehension by practicing engineers. Theoretical aspects are also discussed in detail for further studies by graduate students and researchers. Several additions have been made to this second edition, including a new chapter on extreme wave statistics.

Book Design And Construction Of Berm Breakwaters

Download or read book Design And Construction Of Berm Breakwaters written by Jentsje Van Der Meer and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2016-09-09 with total page 350 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Modern design of berm breakwaters began about thirty years ago. However, to date, there has been a lack of a well-established, formal design methodology on berm breakwaters. The authors Dr Jentsje van der Meer and Sigurdur Sigurdarson combine over 40 years of collective experience working with breakwaters to put forward a design framework in Design and Construction of Berm Breakwaters; covering the science and design practices of berm breakwater structures. The original design consisted of mass armoured berms that reshaped into statically stable S-shaped slopes. The design was adopted in Iceland and eventually led to a development with more stable structures by using available rock sizes, large rock, and more rock gradings than just 'small rock (core)' and 'large rock (berm)'. This more stable and only partly reshaping structure is called the Icelandic-type berm breakwater.Written for researchers and practitioners, the volume consists of chapters on geometrical designs of the berm breakwater cross-section, including berm reshaping and wave overtopping, quarry and project management, as well as blasting and sorting techniques, designs for various wave conditions and available rock classes, and case studies of already constructed berm breakwaters.

Book Coastal Protection

Download or read book Coastal Protection written by Pile Buck and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2012-10 with total page 283 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: With today's problems surrounding shoreline protection, this book should be of great assistance. This manual contains a compilation of 2 Navy and 2 Corps manuals all relative to the subject of coastal protection and the affects tidal action has on our shorelines. The titles included are: Coastal Protection is a U.S. Navy publication which deals specifically with waves and their characteristics. In order to prepare safe designs, the normal and extreme waves which will act against the structure must be evaluated so that a design wave can be selected. Pilebuck takes the user through this phase into the application of data to actual design of breakwaters and seawalls. Storm Surge Analysis: High tides and wind-generated waves combine to provide a potential for abnormally high water levels and flooding during hurricanes or other serious storms. An understanding of this phenomena is essential in order to plan control structures or design others.

Book Water Wave Pressures on Seawalls and Breakwaters

Download or read book Water Wave Pressures on Seawalls and Breakwaters written by A. M. Kamel and published by . This book was released on 1968 with total page 52 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Several analytical and experimental studies on the highest gravity water wave that can be reflected by a structure, the highest progressive wave in shallow water, and the highest wave that will break on a structure were analyzed. This resulted in diagrams for the selection of the design wave reflected by or breaking on a structure. It was found that the height of the design wave depends on the characteristics of the deepwater wave, the wave reflection coefficient of the structure, the water depth at the structure, and the bottom slope and depth contours seaward of the structure. For the wave reflection coefficients of seawalls and breakwaters, experimental data available were analyzed, and an analytical approach is presented. This analysis resulted in diagrams for the determination of the wave reflection coefficient, which was found to be a function of the wave steepness, the relative depth of water in front of the structure, the angle of wave approach to the structure, and the shape, slope, roughness, and permeability of the structure. Equations, developed to the second order of approximation, for calculating the wave pressures on seawalls and breakwaters caused by waves reflected by the structure are presented. The equations take into account the wave reflection coefficient, thus enabling the design engineer to calculate the wave pressures for totally as well as partially reflected waves. An example illustrating the method of selecting the design wave and calculating the wave pressures is presented. (Author).
