Book Design of Modified Quadrupole Magnets

Download or read book Design of Modified Quadrupole Magnets written by and published by . This book was released on 1962 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Modifications to the shape of ideal quadrupole magnets were investigated, using an electrolytic tank method. Magnets with straight and with exponential pole faces were considered with 1: 1, 1: 2, and 1:3 apertures. The additional field introduced by these modifications was expressed in an harmonic series and the coefficients of this series plotted against the parameters characterizing the modifications made. Book Conceptual Design of a Quadrupole Magnet for ERHIC

Download or read book Conceptual Design of a Quadrupole Magnet for ERHIC written by and published by . This book was released on 2015 with total page 5 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: ERHIC is a proposed upgrade to the existing Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider (RHIC) hadron facility at Brookhaven National Laboratory, which would allow collisions of up to 21 GeV polarized electrons with a variety of species from the existing RHIC accelerator. eRHIC employs an Energy Recovery Linac (ERL) and an FFAG lattice for the arcs. The arcs require open-midplane quadrupole magnets of up to 30 T/m gradient of good field quality. In this paper we explore initial quadrupole magnet design concepts based on permanent magnetic material which allow to modify the gradient during operation.

Book TMX axisymmetric Magnet set design Study

Download or read book TMX axisymmetric Magnet set design Study written by and published by . This book was released on 1981 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Studies are currently being made to design an axisymmetric modification to the TMX-Upgrade experiment. The existing TMX-Upgrade quadrupole plug and transition magnet sets are replaced by the circular coils of an axisymmetric plug. The existing TMX-Upgrade magnet set is shown. The circular coils are sectioned to show the quadrupole magnets and the flux bundle. The two end cells of this magnet set are MHD stable minimum-B plugs. From a mechanical design viewpoint, an axisymmetric design is attractively simple. One of the axisymmetric designs under consideration is the Modified Cusp. A magnet set for this designs is shown. The coils are sectioned to show their cross-section.

Over 700 participants from around the country and the world gathered on May 6-8,1993, in San Francisco to mark the progress of the SSC, to discuss current issues, and to chart a course of action for the continued development of our understanding of basic subatomic matter. Together, the American public, academic communities, private sectors and governments from around the world have embarked on a project critical to maintaining our nation's preeminence as the world's leader in basic scientific research and the practical application of scientific knowledge. America has long maintained a commitment to investing in our nation's future. The Super Collider represents an essential next step in the direction of scope of human knowledge. The theme of the conference reflects these important goals: "SSC Focusing the World on Next Generation Science. " The challenge for us today is to spread the message of the importance of investing in America's future. This is our task, and the task of supporters of the Super Colliderthroughout the nation. Without employing all of our energies, our nation will miss an historic opportunity to ensure America's scientific technological and economic leadership in the years ahead as we enter the next millennium.

Book Iron Dominated Electromagnets Design Fabrication Assembly And Measurements

Download or read book Iron Dominated Electromagnets Design Fabrication Assembly And Measurements written by Jack T Tanabe and published by World Scientific Publishing Company. This book was released on 2005-05-06 with total page 355 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This unique book, written by one of the world's foremost specialists in the field, is devoted to the design of low and medium field electromagnets whose field level and quality (uniformity) are dominated by the pole shape and saturation characteristics of the iron yoke. The wide scope covers material ranging from the physical requirements for typical high performance accelerators, through the mathematical relationships which describe the shape of two-dimensional magnetic fields, to the mechanical fabrication, assembly, installation, and alignment of magnets in a typical accelerator lattice. In addition, stored energy concepts are used to develop magnetic force relationships and expressions for magnets with time varying fields. The material in the book is derived from lecture notes used in a course at the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory and subsequently expanded for the U.S. Particle Accelerator School, making this text an invaluable reference for students planning to enter the field of high energy physics.Mathematical relationships tying together magnet design and measurement theory are derived from first principles, and chapters are included that describe mechanical design, fabrication, installation, and alignment. Some fabrication and assembly practices are reviewed to ensure personnel and equipment safety and operational reliability of electromagnets and their power supply systems. This additional coverage makes the book an important resource for those already in the particle accelerator business as well as those requiring the design and fabrication of low and medium field level magnets for charged particle beam transport in ion implantation and medical applications.

Book Design and Test Results of a Pulsed Quadrupole Magnet with a 2 Mu S Rise Time

Download or read book Design and Test Results of a Pulsed Quadrupole Magnet with a 2 Mu S Rise Time written by and published by . This book was released on 1981 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Major polarization losses will be encountered during acceleration of polarized protons in the Brookhaven AGS due to eight intrinsic depolarizing resonances. Pulsing a set of 12 vertical tune shift quadrupole magnets with a 2 .mu.s rise time, 3 ms fall, and 60 ms repetition rate should reduce these losses. This requires a gradient of 1.87 T/M over the 8.89 x 12.7 cm vacuum chamber. A ferrite core quadrupole magnet has been designed, built, and magnetically measured. The pole tip has a hyperbolic shape and the coil consists of four parallel 0.318 cm by 0.453 cm turns per pole. This approximates a current sheet 0.318 cm thick and curves to lie along a flux line. Placed as close to the vacuum chamber as possible, it minimizes the inductance of the magnet and the voltage of the power supply. Proper spacing of the four turns assures a more uniform gradient over a large aperture. Two slabs of ferrite are bonded together and machined to form one pole of half length. These are bonded end-to-end, and a prewound coil on a fiberglass support is attached. Four such pole assemblies are then assembled around the vacuum chamber and electrically connected together. The design, construction, and measurements are presented.

Book Design and Construction of Superconducting Quadrupole Magnets for Ion Beam Fusion

Download or read book Design and Construction of Superconducting Quadrupole Magnets for Ion Beam Fusion written by and published by . This book was released on 1978 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A high gradient superconducting quadrupole has been designed and developed as the heavy ion beam focussing element in the low velocity portions of an rf linac for the Argonne Ion Beam Fusion Reactor. The quadrupole magnets will require an extremely short magnet coil length (approximately 20 cm to 30 cm) and extremely high central gradients (approximately 100 T/m to 200 T/m). The useful warm bore will be about 4 to 6 cm and the integral gradient homogeneity should be constant to +-5% over the useful warm bore. Special techniques have been developed which are especially suitable for multilayer coil winding and coil assembly with high average current density over the coil cross section. A 5-layer quadrupole with 9 cm winding bore has been built and tested to the full performance of about 100 T/m with little training. The achieved average current density is 22,000 A/cm2 at a peak field in conductor of about 5.0 T. An 8-layer quadrupole is under construction for a design gradient of 140 T/m over 9 cm winding bore. The peak field will be about 7.2 T.

Book A Superconducting Quadrupole Array for Transport of Multiple High Current Beams

Download or read book A Superconducting Quadrupole Array for Transport of Multiple High Current Beams written by and published by . This book was released on 1999 with total page 5 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We present a conceptual design of a superconducting quadrupole magnet array for the side-by-side transport of multiple high current particle beams in induction linear accelerators. The magnetic design uses a modified cosine 20 current distribution inside a square cell boundary. Each interior magnet's neighbors serve as the return flux paths and the poles are placed as close as possible to each other to facilitate this. No iron is present in the basic 2-D magnetic design; it will work at any current level without correction windings. Special 1/8th quadrupoles are used along the transverse periphery of the array to contain and channel flux back into the array, making every channel look as part of an infinite array. This design provides a fixed dimension array boundary equal to the quadrupole radius that can be used for arrays of any number of quadrupole channels, at any field level. More importantly, the design provides magnetic field separation between the array and the induction cores which may be surrounding it. Flux linkage between these two components can seriously affect the operation of both of them.
