Book Design of a Syntax Validation Tool for Requirements Analysis Using Structured Analysis and Design Technique SADT

Download or read book Design of a Syntax Validation Tool for Requirements Analysis Using Structured Analysis and Design Technique SADT written by Dong H. Jung and published by . This book was released on 1988 with total page 108 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This thesis investigation presents the prototype development of a validation tool for checking the syntax of Structured Analysis and Design Technique (SADT) method from a structured analysis diagram. The tool provides the requirements analyst and the designer with an environment for checking the SADT syntax of an SADT diagram. The tool is operated through the use of an SADT Editor which was developed by Steven E. Johnson at the Air Force Institute of Technology (AFIT). The validation tool was developed in three phases. During the first phase the formal definition of the SADT graphical language was derived using Predicate Logic representation. During the second phase, the SADT Editor was analyzed and the interface issues with the software were identified. Thus, the graphical features were translated. During the third phase, the syntax rules were identified according to the formal definition of the SADT methodology using Predicate Logic representation. The new tool was implemented into a knowledge-based system to ease the extension of the syntax rules, to add knowledge of the SADT graphical structure and to add domain knowledge of an application system developed by the SADT methodology. Download or read book Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences written by Wade H. Shafer and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 430 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences was first conceived, published, and disseminated by the Center for Information and Numerical Oata Analysis and Synthesis (CINOAS) * at Purdue. University in 1957, starting its coverage of theses with the academic year 1955. Beginning with Volume 13, the printing and dissemination phases of the activity were transferred to University Microfilms/Xerox of Ann Arbor, Michigan, with the thought that such an arrangement would be more beneficial to the academic and general scientific and technical community. After five years of this joint undertaking we had concluded that it was in the interest of all con cerned if the printing and distribution of the volumes were handled by an interna tional publishing house to assure improved service and broader dissemination. Hence, starting with Volume 18, Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences has been disseminated on a worldwide basis by Plenum Publishing Cor poration of New York, and in the same year the coverage was broadened to include Canadian universities. All back issues can also be ordered from Plenum. We have reported in Volume 33 (thesis year 1988) a total of 13,273 theses titles from 23 Canadian and 1 85 United States universities. We are sure that this broader base for these titles reported will greatly enhance the value of this important annual reference work. While Volume 33 reports theses submitted in 1988, on occasion, certain univer sities do report theses submitted in previous years but not reported at the time.

Book Software Maintenance A Management Perspective

Download or read book Software Maintenance A Management Perspective written by Phaneendra Nath Vellanky and published by Universal-Publishers. This book was released on 2007-10-23 with total page 591 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Computer systems play an important role in our society. Software drives those systems. Massive investments of time and resources are made in developing and implementing these systems. Maintenance is inevitable. It is hard and costly. Considerable resources are required to keep the systems active and dependable. We cannot maintain software unless maintainability characters are built into the products and processes. There is an urgent need to reinforce software development practices based on quality and reliability principles. Though maintenance is a mini development lifecycle, it has its own problems. Maintenance issues need corresponding tools and techniques to address them. Software professionals are key players in maintenance. While development is an art and science, maintenance is a craft. We need to develop maintenance personnel to master this craft. Technology impact is very high in systems world today. We can no longer conduct business in the way we did before. That calls for reengineering systems and software. Even reengineered software needs maintenance, soon after its implementation. We have to take business knowledge, procedures, and data into the newly reengineered world. Software maintenance people can play an important role in this migration process. Software technology is moving into global and distributed networking environments. Client/server systems and object-orientation are on their way. Massively parallel processing systems and networking resources are changing database services into corporate data warehouses. Software engineering environments, rapid application development tools are changing the way we used to develop and maintain software. Software maintenance is moving from code maintenance to design maintenance, even onto specification maintenance. Modifications today are made at specification level, regenating the software components, testing and integrating them with the system. Eventually software maintenance has to manage the evolution and evolutionary characteristics of software systems. Software professionals have to maintain not only the software, but the momentum of change in systems and software. In this study, we observe various issues, tools and techniques, and the emerging trends in software technology with particular reference to maintenance. We are not searching for specific solutions. We are identifying issues and finding ways to manage them, live with them, and control their negative impact.

Book Fundamentals and Standards in Hardware Description Languages

Download or read book Fundamentals and Standards in Hardware Description Languages written by Jean Mermet and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 471 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The second half of this century will remain as the era of proliferation of electronic computers. They did exist before, but they were mechanical. During next century they may perform other mutations to become optical or molecular or even biological. Actually, all these aspects are only fancy dresses put on mathematical machines. This was always recognized to be true in the domain of software, where "machine" or "high level" languages are more or less rigourous, but immaterial, variations of the universaly accepted mathematical language aimed at specifying elementary operations, functions, algorithms and processes. But even a mathematical machine needs a physical support, and this is what hardware is all about. The invention of hardware description languages (HDL's) in the early 60's, was an attempt to stay longer at an abstract level in the design process and to push the stage of physical implementation up to the moment when no more technology independant decisions can be taken. It was also an answer to the continuous, exponential growth of complexity of systems to be designed. This problem is common to hardware and software and may explain why the syntax of hardware description languages has followed, with a reasonable delay of ten years, the evolution of the programming languages: at the end of the 60's they were" Algol like" , a decade later "Pascal like" and now they are "C or ADA-like". They have also integrated the new concepts of advanced software specification languages.

This book was released on 1986 with total page 94 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The project involved the design and implementation of a requirement analysis design tool integrated with a data dictionary. The tool was developed in a distributed system consisting of a central computer that hosts a database management system, and assortment of workstations, and the communication links between the workstations and the central computer. The emphasis of the thesis was placed on the design of a user-friendly requirement analysis design tool that was implemented on a prototype workstation. The SADT (Structured Analysis and Design Technique) diagrams are created and updated at the workstation and the data dictionary definitions are extracted from these diagram definitions. These definitions are transferred between the workstation and the central computer database. Background information is provided on SADT diagrams, graphics languages, and data dictionary systems. The requirements, design, and implementation of the design tool are described in detail. Evaluation of the design tool was performed by a limited set of the projected user group. The results of the evaluation are provided. (Author).
