Book Axial Flow Fans

Download or read book Axial Flow Fans written by R. A. Wallis and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 2014-05-12 with total page 381 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Axial Flow Fans: Design and Practice focuses on the design of axial flow fans and the practices involved in their applications. The manuscript first offers information on the fluid mechanics of ducted fans, boundary layer and skin friction relations, and aerofoil data for blade design. Discussions focus on flow deflection in cascade of aerofoils, pitching moment, lift, surface roughness in turbulent boundary layers, turbulent boundary layers in pressure gradients, laminar skin friction, viscosity and boundary layers, and similarity and non-dimensional numbers. The text then ponders on vortex flows in ducting and fan, ducts, and introduction to fan design methods. The book takes a look at the momentum and blade element considerations on free vortex flow of rotor and rotor losses. Topics include momentum considerations, profile drag, tip clearance losses, optimum conditions in terms of the flow and swirl coefficients, pressure relations and velocity vectors, and thrust and torque gradients. Tail fairing design and associated losses, overall efficiencies, torque, thrust, and power, and the design of fan unit with arbitrary vortex flow are also discussed. The publication is a dependable source of information for engineers and readers interested in the design of axial flow fans and practices involved in their operation.

Download or read book Fans written by Thomas Carolus and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2023-01-13 with total page 263 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This textbook combines in a unique concept the design and construction of radial and axial fans with the problem of noise generation as well as its mitigation already in the fan development stage. The aim is to describe selected, easily applicable methods of aerodynamic design and noise prediction and to demonstrate their physical principles. Exercises with solutions facilitate understanding. The completely revised and expanded edition now also includes guidance on selecting fans for a given task, simulation-based optimization methods for fan design, and psychoacoustic methods that can be used to measure the quality of fan noise. This book is a translation of the original German 4th edition Ventilatoren by Thomas Carolus, published by Springer Fachmedien Wiesbaden GmbH, part of Springer Nature in 2020. The translation was done with the help of artificial intelligence (machine translation by the service DeepL.com). A subsequent human revision was done primarily in terms of content, so that the book will read stylistically differently from a conventional translation. Springer Nature works continuously to further the development of tools for the production of books and on the related technologies to support the authors.

Book Aerodynamic Performance Measurements for a Forward Swept Low Noise Fan

Download or read book Aerodynamic Performance Measurements for a Forward Swept Low Noise Fan written by National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) and published by Createspace Independent Publishing Platform. This book was released on 2018-08-29 with total page 50 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: One source of noise in high tip speed turbofan engines, caused by shocks, is called multiple pure tone noise (MPT's). A new fan, called the Quiet High Speed Fan (QHSF), showed reduced noise over the part speed operating range, which includes MPT's. The QHSF showed improved performance in most respects relative to a baseline fan; however, a partspeed instability discovered during testing reduced the operating range below acceptable limits. The measured QHSF adiabatic efficiency on the fixed nozzle acoustic operating line was 85.1 percent and the baseline fan 82.9 percent, a 2.2 percent improvement. The operating line pressure rise at design point rotational speed and mass flow was 1.764 and 1.755 for the QHSF and baseline fan, respectively. Weight flow at design point speed was 98.28 lbm/sec for the QHSF and 97.97 lbm/sec for the baseline fan. The operability margin for the QHSF approached 0 percent at the 75 percent speed operating condition. The baseline fan maintained sufficient margin throughout the operating range as expected. Based on the stage aerodynamic measurements, this concept shows promise for improved performance over current technology if the operability limitations can be solved.Fite, E. Book DESIGN AND PERFORMANCE ANALYSIS OF A REVERSIBLE AXIAL FLOW FAN

Download or read book DESIGN AND PERFORMANCE ANALYSIS OF A REVERSIBLE AXIAL FLOW FAN written by and published by . This book was released on 2005 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Reversible axial flow fans are used as emergency ventilation fans to discharge the smoke generated on the probable fires occurring in the underground transportation systems and mines as quickly as possible, without causing any harm to people exposed to it. The fans which are placed in different configurations according to the location of fire must be able to work bi-directionally, namely reversible. Due to this fact, the blade profiles of the fan must possess the same aerodynamic performance while working on either discharge or suction condition of the fan, dictated by direction of the rotation. This manuscript consists of the computation of the aerodynamic performances of symmetrical blade profiles of fully reversible axial fans by computational fluid mechanics (CFD) methods, developing a methodology for the design of reversible axial fans and analysis of the designed fan with CFD methods. The aerodynamic performances of the blade cascades are evaluated using FLUENT 6.0 software for different Reynolds numbers, solidities and angle of attacks of the cascade. The results of these computations are embedded into the developed methodology. Performance analysis of the reversible axial flow fan, which is designed with the developed methodology, is done with CFD techniques.

Book Influence of Wall Boundary Layer Upon the Performance of an Axial flow Fan Rotor

Download or read book Influence of Wall Boundary Layer Upon the Performance of an Axial flow Fan Rotor written by Emanuel Boxer and published by . This book was released on 1951 with total page 28 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An experimental investigation has been conducted to determine the effects of the wall boundary layer upon the performance of an axial-flow fan rotor. Tests were conducted at low Mach numbers and at one blade angle on a fan designed to have uniform downstream tangential velocity. The maximum disturbed-flow region of the six boundary-layer configurations tested exceeded one-half of the annular width of the duct and the peak efficiency was reduced 2 1/2 percent for this condition. The over-all loss in efficiency may possibly be reduced by decreasing the blade pitch angle in the boundary-layer region to conform to the upstream velocity profile.
