Book So You Want to Design Engines

Download or read book So You Want to Design Engines written by William Kucinski and published by SAE International. This book was released on 2018-05-30 with total page 72 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) fill a wider and wider variety of civic, scientific, and military roles—analysts predict that the UAV market will be the most dynamic growth sector of the decade in terms of the world aerospace industry. As a result, UAV research and development will contribute to a major portion of spending in the next decades—with a significant emphasis on propulsion technologies. This book will cover several UAV propulsion technologies, ranging from modification of conservative designs to assessing the potential of unconventional arrangements. Each chapter provides a glimpse of how researchers are leveraging different fuel types, powerplants, and system architectures in the pursuit of powerful, efficient, and robust UAV propulsion. By developing higher-performing propulsion systems—whether through the refinement of existing technologies like two-stroke heavy-fuel engines and hybrid-electric arrangements or the investigation of new concepts such as dielectric barrier discharge—engineers will be able to increase UAV capabilities for the world’s developing aviation needs.

Book Gasoline Direct Injection Pump

Download or read book Gasoline Direct Injection Pump written by Gasoline Fuel Injection Standards Committee and published by . This book was released on 2015 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The scope of this Recommended Practice is limited to gasoline fuel pumps used in automotive direct fuel injection systems. It is primarily restricted to bench tests. This SAE Recommended Practice also defines the minimum design verification testing that is recommended to verify the suitability of Gasoline Direct Injection (GDI) High Pressure fuel pumps used for pumping gasoline or gasoline blend fuels. Additional tests not specified in SAE J2714 will be required for non-automotive pump applications or pumps, such as those intended for use on aircraft, motorcycles, or marine equipment.Except where stated, test results are recorded for individual parts under recommended test conditions. Where population characteristics are reported, the sample size, selection method, and statistical analysis technique must be explicitly stated. This SAE Recommended Practice promotes uniformity in the evaluation and qualification tests conducted on fuel pumps used in gasoline direct injection (GDI) engine applications.

This book was released on 2003-04-29 with total page 276 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Fuel Injection Systems addresses key issues in fuel delivery and associated technologies which are evolving faster than ever. The rapid technological change has reduced product life cycles resulting in rapid evolution of design and development methods to enable timely delivery of increasingly complex technology. This is vital as the demands on engines are increasingly stringent, especially in the field of emissions, new fuel injection systems are being developed to meet these challenges, not only in passenger cars but also for heavy duty as well as large engine applications. This volume brings together international contributions from the leading experts in industry and the latest research from academia to provide a comprehensive update to all those working in design, development, and manufacturing of fuel injection systems. Contents include: Emission reduction with advanced two-actuator EUI for heavy-duty diesel engines Investigation of a two valve electronically controlled unit injector on a Euro IV heavy duty diesel engine using design of experiment methods Characterization of in-cylinder fuel distribution from an air-assisted fuel injection system using advanced laser diagnostics High contact stress applications of a silicon nitride in modern diesel engines The use of the HLMI (hydraulic leak measurement unit) Komatsu STA 6DI40 water emulsified fuel engine Timely control of diesel combustion using water injection
