Download or read book Towards a Common Software Hardware Methodology for Future Advanced Driver Assistance Systems written by Holger Blume and published by River Publishers. This book was released on 2017-04-28 with total page 312 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The European research project DESERVE (DEvelopment platform for Safe and Efficient dRiVE, 2012-2015) had the aim of designing and developing a platform tool to cope with the continuously increasing complexity and the simultaneous need to reduce cost for future embedded Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS). For this purpose, the DESERVE platform profits from cross-domain software reuse, standardization of automotive software component interfaces, and easy but safety-compliant integration of heterogeneous modules. This enables the development of a new generation of ADAS applications, which challengingly combine different functions, sensors, actuators, hardware platforms, and Human Machine Interfaces (HMI). This book presents the different results of the DESERVE project concerning the ADAS development platform, test case functions, and validation and evaluation of different approaches. The reader is invited to substantiate the content of this book with the deliverables published during the DESERVE project. Technical topics discussed in this book include: Modern ADAS development platforms; Design space exploration;DRIVER MODELLING;Video-based and Radar-based ADAS functions;HMI for ADAS;Vehicle-hardware-in-the-loop validation systems

Book Lightweight Low Cost Automotive Data Acquisition and Telemetry System

Download or read book Lightweight Low Cost Automotive Data Acquisition and Telemetry System written by and published by . This book was released on 2005 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Dynamically, testing small, lightweight automobiles can be very difficult on a limited budget. Several quality data acquisition systems exist that are designed for automotive applications, but most are large cumbersome units that require an AC power inverter. It would not be possible to use one of these systems on a small lightweight vehicle, like a Formula SAE racecar. A device powered from a 12 volt DC power supply is required for this type of application. Also, typical data acquisition systems are far too bulky and costly to be fitted to a Formula SAE vehicle. As with any system, recording actual operating conditions will provide useful information, leading to system improvements. In order to achieve these goals, several data acquisition with telemetry systems were investigated. The most interesting system, Dataq DI-720-EN and Linksys wireless router, were purchased and characterized through a barrage of testing. The system was first characterized by logging a random signal and transferring the data through a typical wired setup. The system was then methodically tested in the lab with Ethernet wired and wireless data transfer methods. The data acquisition and telemetry system was also tested dynamically, on the 2004 Bearcat Motorsports FSAE vehicle, using wireless data transfer methods. The testing results were promising, with minimal signs of poor data. Some gaps were seen in the data, but were deemed insignificant for the majority of potential testing. Lastly, several likely improvements are discussed.

Download or read book Vehicle Validation and Analysis of a Formula SAE Racecar written by Nathaniel Hill and published by . This book was released on 2014 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Author's Abstract: The importance of standardized courses for testing Georgia Southern University's Formula SAE (FSAE) vehicle is emphasized in order to reproduce test results and analyze trends within data. The test courses are clearly defined so that future Eagle Motorsports (EMS) participants can replicate testing conditions to track progress from year to year as well as validate simulations and design models. A data acquisition system (DAQ) was installed on the FSAE car for the first time. This paper serves as an introduction to the purpose of acquiring data, an explanation of the hardware available and components chosen to implement DAQ on Georgia Southern's FSAE car. Mathematical validation is presented to complement the data acquired from the DAQ and the results from testing are evaluated. This data may be used to validate simulations, models, or evaluate changes in vehicle behavior during the tuning process.

This book was released on 2016-07-14 with total page 124 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Modern vehicles have electronic control units (ECUs) to control various subsystems such as the engine, brakes, steering, air conditioning, and infotainment. These ECUs (or simply ‘controllers’) are networked together to share information, and output directly measured and calculated data to each other. This in-vehicle network is a data goldmine for improved maintenance, measuring vehicle performance and its subsystems, fleet management, warranty and legal issues, reliability, durability, and accident reconstruction. The focus of Data Acquisition from HD Vehicles Using J1939 CAN Bus is to guide the reader on how to acquire and correctly interpret data from the in-vehicle network of heavy-duty (HD) vehicles. The reader will learn how to convert messages to scaled engineering parameters, and how to determine the available parameters on HD vehicles, along with their accuracy and update rate. Written by two specialists in this field, Richard (Rick) P. Walter and Eric P. Walter, principals at HEM Data, located in the United States, the book provides a unique road map for the data acquisition user. The authors give a clear and concise description of the CAN protocol plus a review of all 19 parts of the SAE International J1939 standard family. Pertinent standards are illuminated with tables, graphs and examples. Practical applications covered are calculating fuel economy, duty cycle analysis, and capturing intermittent faults. A comparison is made of various diagnostic approaches including OBD-II, HD-OBD and World Wide Harmonized (WWH) OBD. Data Acquisition from HD Vehicles Using J1939 CAN Bus is a must-have reference for those interested to acquire data effectively from the SAE J1939 equipped vehicles.

Book Design of a Pneumatically Assisted Shifting System for Formula SAE Racing Applications

Download or read book Design of a Pneumatically Assisted Shifting System for Formula SAE Racing Applications written by Andrew John Kennett and published by . This book was released on 2008 with total page 84 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An improved shifting system for use with the MIT Formula SAE race car was designed in order to provide drivers with a faster and easier means of shifting. The result of this design was a pneumatic shifting system weighing just 3.6 pounds and capable of shifting the car's transmission in 200ms (downshifts are slightly slower because they require the use of the clutch). Shifts are initiated through buttons on the steering wheel and controlled through the car's engine control processor. An ergonomic clutch was also designed in order to help shift more easily and provide more control of the vehicle. This document describes, from beginning to end, the design process involved in creating these systems and provides justification for each decision that was made along the way.

Book Feasibility of Developing a Portable Driver Performance Data Acquisition System for Human Factors Research

Download or read book Feasibility of Developing a Portable Driver Performance Data Acquisition System for Human Factors Research written by and published by . This book was released on 1998 with total page 59 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A two-phase, multi-year research program entitled "development of a portable driver performance data acquisition system for human factors research" was recently completed. The primary objective of the project was to develop a portable data acquisition system for crash avoidance research (DASCAR) that will allow driver performance data to be collected using a large variety of vehicle types and that would be capable of being installed on a given vehicle type within a relatively short-time frame. During phase I a feasibility study for designing and fabricating DASCAR was conducted. In phase II of the research DASCAR was actually developed and validated. This technical memorandum documents the results from the feasibility study. It is subdivided into three volumes. Volume one addresses the last five items in the phase I research and the first issue in the second phase of the project. Volume two presents the related appendices. Volume three (this report) displays the design specifications developed for DASCAR during the "develop design requirements and specifications for a portable driver performance data acquisition system" task. Design specifications were assembled for each DASCAR element. The specifications were prepared in sufficient detail to allow a third party to use them to design, develop, procure, and subsequently construct the data acquisition system. This report also covers the background to the program. The data acquisition system is a portable, state-of-the art system which can be installed within virtually any passenger vehicle. It is both unobtrusive to the driver and inconspicuous to the outside world. DASCAR is currently capable of collecting and analyzing more than 60 driver-related, vehicular, and environment parameters and measures. DASCAR consists of six-major elements: a data acquisition platform, a data storage and transmission system, a power system, an equipment status bus, a sensor suite, and a video data system. A central data collection/analysis facility was also assembled to manage, support, and analyze data collected by the DASCAR prototype. DASCAR will be employed to collect normative driver performance data, support system performance guideline development, evaluate both conventional and intelligent transportation systems technologies, support simulator validation, and fine tune simulators.
