Book Multi Carrier and Spread Spectrum Systems

Download or read book Multi Carrier and Spread Spectrum Systems written by K. Fazel and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2004-02-06 with total page 298 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Frequency spectrum is a limited and valuable resource for wireless communications. A good example can be observed among network operators in Europe for the prices to pay for UMTS-frequency bands. Therefore, the first goal when designing future wireless communication systems (e.g. 4G - fourth generation) has to be the increase in spectral efficiency. The development in digital communications in the past years has enabled efficient modulation and coding techniques for robust and spectral efficient data, speech, audio and video transmission. These are the multi-carrier modulation (e.g. OFDM) and the spread spectrum technique (e.g. DS-CDMA), where OFDM was chosen for broadcast applications (DVB, DAB) as well as for broadband wireless indoor standards (ETSI HIPERLAN-II, IEEE-802.11) and the DS-CDMA was selected in mobile communications (IS-95, third generation mobile radio systems world wide, UMTS/IMT 2000). Since 1993 various combinations of multi-carrier (MC) modulation and the spread spectrum (SS) technique have been introduced and the field of MC-SS communications has become an independent and important research topic with increasing activities. New application fields have been proposed such as high rate cellular mobile, high rate wireless indoor and LMDS. It has been shown that MC-SS offers the high spectral efficiency, robustness and flexibility that is required for the next generation systems. Meanwhile, different alternative hybrid schemes such as OFDM/OFDMA, MC-TDMA, etc. have been deeply analysed and adopted in different international standards (ETSI-BRAN, IEEE-802 & MMAC). Multi-Carrier & Spread-Spectrum: Analysis of Hybrid Air Interfaces draws together all of the above mentioned hybrid schemes therefore providing a greatly needed resource for system engineers, telecommunication designers and researchers in order to enable them to develop, build and deploy several schemes based on MC-transmission for the next generation systems (which will be an integration of broadband multimedia services covering both 4G mobile and fixed wireless systems). * Offers a complete treatment of multi-carrier, spread-spectrum (SS) and time division multiplexing (TDM) techniques * Provides an in-depth insight into hybrid multiple access techniques based on multi-carrier (MC) transmission * Presents numerous hybrid multiple access and air interface architectures including OFDM/CDMA, MC-CDMA, MC-DS-CDMA and MT-CDMA * Covers new techniques such as space-time coding and software radio Telecommunications engineers, hardware & software system designers and researchers as well as students, lecturers and technicians will all find this an invaluable addition to their bookshelf.

Book Radio Resource Management in Cellular F TDMA Smart Antenna Systems

Download or read book Radio Resource Management in Cellular F TDMA Smart Antenna Systems written by Christian Hartmann and published by Herbert Utz Verlag. This book was released on 2017-02-21 with total page 208 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book Scattering in Non Stationary Mobile to Mobile Communications Channels

Download or read book Scattering in Non Stationary Mobile to Mobile Communications Channels written by Michael Walter and published by Herbert Utz Verlag. This book was released on 2016-03-24 with total page 164 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The aim of this thesis is to introduce a non-stationary model for the scattering in mobile-to-mobile channels. Due to the evolution of wireless technology, fixed-to-mobile communications systems are nowadays complemented by mobile-to-mobile communications systems. In the vehicular sector, mobile-to-mobile communications systems are used to enable intelligent transportation systems. Such systems aim to make transportation safer and more efficient by distributing sensor information among the cars. In the aeronautical sector, mobile-to-mobile communications systems will be used, for example, to exchange position, altitude, speed, and heading data between aircraft during flight thus allowing for a reduced separation between them. Hence, these systems are necessary to further increase the air traffic density.

This book was released on 2015-04-22 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Due to their ability to support reliable high quality of service as well as spectral and power efficiency, multicarrier modulation systems have found increasing use in modern communications services. However, one of the main drawbacks of these systems is their vulnerability to nonlinear distortion effects. Analytical Evaluation of Nonlinear Distortion Effects on Multicarrier Signals details a unified approach to well-known analytical results on memoryless nonlinearities that takes advantage of the Gaussian behavior of multicarrier signals. Sharing new insights into the behavior of nonlinearly distorted multicarrier signals, the book begins with a review of the fundamental principles of multicarrier transmission and multicarrier-based systems. Next, it covers well-known results on nonlinear distortion of Gaussian signals and examines the accuracy of the use of Gaussian approximation for evaluating nonlinear effects. It also considers the performance of various multicarrier-based systems in the presence of different types of nonlinear devices. Describes general clipping and filtering techniques to reduce the envelope fluctuations of multicarrier signals Analyzes quantization effects caused by the numerical accuracy required in the DFT computations Discusses quantization requirements of analog-to-digital converters Redefines loading techniques to take into account nonlinear distortion issues on adaptive multicarrier systems Examines the impact of nonlinear signal processing techniques for reducing the envelope fluctuations of OFDMA signals Presents performance results for all the discussed applications The book covers the essential principles of multicarrier modulations, including OFDM modulations and other multicarrier schemes. It describes multicarrier modulation systems that will be used in next-generation communications systems and also provides new insight into the behavior of nonlinearly distorted multicarrier signals. Illustrating the application of the nonlinear distortion analysis techniques presented, the book provides you with a wide range of analytical tools to assess the effects of nonlinearities on the performance of multicarrier-based schemes.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Air transportation is an important factor for the economic growth of the European Union, however, the current system is already approaching its capacity limits. These limitations stem mainly from the current European air traffic control system. New concepts have been developed to overcome the limitations of the current system. However, these concepts require sophisticated data communication capabilities. It has thus been agreed that the aeronautical air-ground communications infrastructure has to evolve to provide the capacity and quality of service required to reform air transportation. EU and USA, representing the regions experiencing the most pressure to reform their existing air-ground communication infrastructure, initiated activities to jointly identify and assess candidates for future digital aeronautical communication systems. Two initiatives for the development of the L-band Digital Aeronautical Communication System (L-DACS) were started. This book presents the analysis, design, and evaluation of the user plane quality of service protocols of L-DACS 1.
