Book Advanced Spaceborne Dosimetry Instrumentation

Download or read book Advanced Spaceborne Dosimetry Instrumentation written by Marion F. Schneider and published by . This book was released on 1965 with total page 178 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report presents the complete results of two years of effort by the Air Force Weapons Laboratory, Biophysics Branch, in the field of space-radiation dosimetry. Three specific dosimetry systems, the Gemini type, the Air Force satellite type, and the manned space systems survey meter, are discussed in detail, and one experimental chamber design employing a gas-multiplication technique is fully explored. Electrical and mechanical diagrams of each system developed through this effort are presented along with illustrated details of dosimeter assembly, testing, and calibration. A complete survey of the theoretical background utilized in the design and testing effort is presented. A considerable amount of experimental data, much of it collected in testing before the Gemini 4 mission and during the flight of the spacecraft, is displayed. (Author).

Book Radiation Dosimetry Instrumentation and Methods

Download or read book Radiation Dosimetry Instrumentation and Methods written by Gad Shani and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2000-12-28 with total page 506 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Radiation dosimetry has made great progress in the last decade, mainly because radiation therapy is much more widely used. Since the first edition, many new developments have been made in the basic methods for dosimetry, i.e. ionization chambers, TLD, chemical dosimeters, and photographic films. Radiation Dosimetry: Instrumentation and Methods, Second Edition brings to the reader these latest developments. Written at a high level for medical physicists, engineers, and advanced dosimetrists, it concentrates only on evolvement during the last decade, relying on the first edition to provide the basics.

Book Sources Fields Measurements and Applications

Download or read book Sources Fields Measurements and Applications written by Frank H. Attix and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 2013-10-22 with total page 965 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Radiation Dosimetry, Second Edition, VOLUME III: Sources, Fields, Measurements, and Applications covers the significant aspects of radiation dosimetry. The book discusses dosimetry relating to x rays and teleisotope gamma rays, discrete and distributed alpha-, beta-, and gamma-ray sources, electron beams, and heavy charged particle beams. The text also describes dosimetry relating to reactors, neutron and mixed n-gamma fields, neutrons from accelerators and radioactive sources, initial and residual ionizing radiation from nuclear weapons, natural and man-made background radiation, radiation in space, ultra-high energy radiation, and uncommon types of particles. Dosimetry relating to health physics, diobiology, radiotherapy, implant and intracavitary therapy, ""transition-zones"" (especially at bone-tissue interfaces), and radiation processing is also considered. Physicists, biophysicists, and people involved in radiological science will find the book invaluable.

Book Radiation Dosimetry Data Management Using VAX C FMS RMS DCL and Oracle

Download or read book Radiation Dosimetry Data Management Using VAX C FMS RMS DCL and Oracle written by and published by . This book was released on 1991 with total page 7 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The External Dosimetry Badge System was developed to support the radiation protection program at Los Alamos National Laboratory. The radiation protection program is responsible for monitoring external radiation exposures to approximately 7,500 Laboratory employees, visitors and contractors each month. External radiation exposure is measured using thermoluminescent dosimeters (TLDs). The system is used to control the assembly and distribution of TLD badges. The system monitors badge return and disassembly at the end of each month, and analyzes the TLDs to determine individual radiation exposure levels. Results are reported and stored in a database designed to maintain detailed individual exposure records. The system maintains a complete history of annual summaries for external exposures. The system is user-friendly with user prompts, menus, and extensive help functions. The completely menu-driven system uses VAX C, VAX Forms Management System, VMS Record Management Services, VMS Digital Command Language, and the Oracle Relational Database Management System. Design and development issues faced, and methods and techniques used in developing the system will be described. Topics discussed include consistent user interface design approaches, considerations for using VAX/VMS programming tools versus Oracle development tools to develop and implement the application, and overall system benefits. 3 refs.

Book Design Development Test and Evaluation DDT e Considerations for Safe and Reliable Human Rated Spacecraft Systems

Download or read book Design Development Test and Evaluation DDT e Considerations for Safe and Reliable Human Rated Spacecraft Systems written by National Aeronautics Administration and published by CreateSpace. This book was released on 2014-11-17 with total page 702 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: NASA is currently in the process of developing the next generation crewed and cargo launch vehicles and spacecraft to return to the Moon and beyond. With the experience and knowledge base available to NASA from past similar programs, it is important to develop a document that captures the salient aspects of successful programs and serve as an important guide in evaluating next generation and future spacecraft concepts and proposals. This section outlines design, development, testing, and evaluation best practices for robust, reliable space systems. The scope of the section is limited to the space structural and pressurized systems (pressure vessels and pressurized structure). These components are critical to mission success and must operate safely and reliably. As an integrated structural system, the reliability at system level must be shown as well, through analysis and testing, to exceed the stipulated performance metrics of the program. Previous history and experience with similar structural designs provides background and guidance for future designs. Although this section is intended to address the reliability of the space structural systems, the methods and practices specified herein should be applicable to structural components (adaptive structures, engines, rocket nozzles, and thermal protection systems) in other disciplines (propulsion, mechanisms, etc.). To this end, the practices that were followed in similar heritage programs such as the Apollo, Space Shuttle, etc., were first examined. Of special interest are various lessons learned, documented failures, as well as successful designs. In addition, various tools and techniques used in preliminary design, detailed analysis, and verification/validation are documented. Acceptance tests and testing procedures with emphasis on how these tests uncovered errors and defects unforeseen in design and analysis are also described.
