Book Design Data and Safety Features of Commercial Nuclear Power Plants Including Cumulative Index for Volumes I VI

Download or read book Design Data and Safety Features of Commercial Nuclear Power Plants Including Cumulative Index for Volumes I VI written by and published by . This book was released on 1977 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Design data, safety features, and site characteristics are summarized for 12 nuclear power units in 6 power stations in the United States. Six pages of data are presented for each station, consisting of thermal-hydraulic and nuclear factors, containment features, emergency-core-cooling systems, site features, circulating water system data, and miscellaneous factors. In addition, an aerial perspective is presented for each plant. This volume covers plants with docket numbers 50-553 through 50-569 (Phipps Bend, Black Fox, Yellow Creek, and NEP) and two earlier plants not previously reported--Hope Creek (50-354, 50-355) and WPPSS 1 and 4 (50-460, 50-513). Indexes for this volume and the five earlier volumes are presented in three forms--by docket number, by plant name, and by participating utility.

Book Risk and Safety Analysis of Nuclear Systems

Download or read book Risk and Safety Analysis of Nuclear Systems written by John C. Lee and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2012-01-12 with total page 504 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book has been developed in conjunction with NERS 462, a course offered every year to seniors and graduate students in the University of Michigan NERS program. The first half of the book covers the principles of risk analysis, the techniques used to develop and update a reliability data base, the reliability of multi-component systems, Markov methods used to analyze the unavailability of systems with repairs, fault trees and event trees used in probabilistic risk assessments (PRAs), and failure modes of systems. All of this material is general enough that it could be used in non-nuclear applications, although there is an emphasis placed on the analysis of nuclear systems. The second half of the book covers the safety analysis of nuclear energy systems, an analysis of major accidents and incidents that occurred in commercial nuclear plants, applications of PRA techniques to the safety analysis of nuclear power plants (focusing on a major PRA study for five nuclear power plants), practical PRA examples, and emerging techniques in the structure of dynamic event trees and fault trees that can provide a more realistic representation of complex sequences of events. The book concludes with a discussion on passive safety features of advanced nuclear energy systems under development and approaches taken for risk-informed regulations for nuclear plants.

Book Nuclear Safety

    Book Details:
  • Author : Mark Gaffigan
  • Publisher : DIANE Publishing
  • Release : 2009-02
  • ISBN : 1437907601
  • Pages : 40 pages

Download or read book Nuclear Safety written by Mark Gaffigan and published by DIANE Publishing. This book was released on 2009-02 with total page 40 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: After a 1975 fire at the Browns Ferry nuclear plant in Alabama threatened the unit¿s ability to shut down safely, the Nuclear Regulatory Comm. (NRC) issued prescriptive fire safety rules for commercial nuclear units. However, nuclear units with different designs and different ages have had difficulty meeting these rules and have sought exemptions to them. In 2004, NRC began to encourage the nation¿s 104 nuclear units to transition to a less prescriptive, risk-informed approach that will analyze the fire risks of individual nuclear units. This report examines: (1) the number and causes of fire incidents at nuclear units since 1995; (2) compliance with NRC fire safety regulations; and (3) the transition to the new approach. Includes recommendations. Illustrations.

Book Format and Content of the Safety Analysis Report for Nuclear Power Plants

Download or read book Format and Content of the Safety Analysis Report for Nuclear Power Plants written by IAEA and published by International Atomic Energy Agency. This book was released on 2021-09-22 with total page 150 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This Safety Guide provides recommendations on the structure and content of the safety analysis report to be submitted by the operating organization to the regulatory body for authorization of the siting, construction, commissioning, operation and decommissioning of a nuclear power plant. It is intended to facilitate both the development of the safety analysis report by the operating organization and the checking of its completeness and adequacy by the regulatory body. The publication is a revision of IAEA Safety Standards Series No. GS-G-4.1, Format and Content of the Safety Analysis Report for Nuclear Power Plants, which it supersedes. The revision reflects feedback experience from the Fukushima Daiichi accident and the subsequent stress tests performed. It also describes good practices and experience from the use of safety analysis reports for newly built nuclear power plants in different States and informs on recent progress made in approaches to safety assessment.

Book Protection against Internal Hazards in the Design of Nuclear Power Plants

Download or read book Protection against Internal Hazards in the Design of Nuclear Power Plants written by IAEA and published by International Atomic Energy Agency. This book was released on 2021-09-08 with total page 99 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Internal hazards have to be considered in the design of items important to safety in a nuclear power plant. The objective is to provide appropriate features to prevent internal hazards and mitigate their effects to ensure that safety is not compromised. This Safety Guide provides recommendations to regulatory bodies, nuclear power plant designers and licensees on hazard assessment (including for combinations of hazards) and design concepts for protection against internal hazards in nuclear power plants, in order to meet the requirements established in IAEA Safety Standards Series No. SSR 2/1 (Rev. 1), Safety of Nuclear Power Plants: Design. The following internal hazards are reviewed in this Safety Guide: fires, explosions, missiles, pipe breaks, flooding, collapse of structures and falling objects with a focus on heavy load drop, electromagnetic interference and release of hazardous substances originating from within the site boundary.
