Book Design and Test of Dynamic Vibration Absorbers

Download or read book Design and Test of Dynamic Vibration Absorbers written by Steven F. Griffin and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2023-11-26 with total page 76 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The aim of this book is to educate the beneficiaries of this technology, because there is so little awareness and understanding of what can be achieved with tuned mass dampers and vibration absorbers and of the relatively small increase in mass and complexity in exchange for the tremendous benefit in vibration reduction. It introduces the feedback approach to help understand why these devices work and are very helpful in modeling the devices on complicated structures. The hardware demonstrators are simple and directly scalable to more complicated structures. Once a reader successfully operates the demonstration hardware, the concepts in the book are directly scalable to implementations on very complex structures like airplanes and rockets. A recipe is provided to 3D print most of the parts as well as easy-to-find brackets and sensors. The whole kit can be assembled in an afternoon. The directions will be similar in detail to a DIY magazine article, providing simple, step-by-step procedures. Book Vibration Analysis of Simply Supported Beam type Vibration Absorber

Download or read book Vibration Analysis of Simply Supported Beam type Vibration Absorber written by Mothanna Yasen Abd and published by . This book was released on 2010 with total page 284 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Beam-type structures have wide applications, for example civil or mechanical engineering. A simply supported beam is widely used in many areas like bridges and double-beam structures. Excessive vibration in such structures especially at the resonance can cause the structural failure. There are two techniques for suppressing the vibration in the beam-structures that have been studied previously; conventional and continuous vibration absorbers. A beam-type vibration absorber is one of the continuous vibration absorber applications and it is used to suppress the vibration of the main beam. Solving the vibration problem of such kind of structure is difficult and complicated, because the motion equations of the system are coupled. The equations cannot be analytically solved before decoupling them. Therefore, some mathematical transformation and variables variation methods were considered to solve this problem, but it is still under the limitation of identical beams. This means that the analytical method is valid just for identical beams. The main objective of this research study is to propose an easy and efficient method to solve the problem of the beam absorber system. In addition, there are sub-objectives have been achieved in this thesis; to study the effect elasticity ration of the main and absorber beams, to study the effect of the moving mass inertia on the main beam response, and finally to find the optimum design for the absorber system. The objectives have been achieved by developing the damping factor formulation of dynamic vibration absorber, and by using Time integration method in aided MATLAB. That was in the theoretical study. An experimental test has been performed by using LMS software to observe the performance of the absorber beam in suppressing the main beam vibration. The numerical results showed good agreement with the literature. That means the proposed method has been successfully developed. The experimental results showed good agreement with the numerical results. In other hand, it was found from the results that the effect of the moving mass inertia on the main beam response can be reduced by increasing the layer stiffness. Also, it has been noted that the elasticity ratio can be improved to find the optimum design of the absorber beam system by increasing its value and decreasing the mass ratio of the main and absorber beams. Finally, the numerical results proved that the proposed method is more effective than the methods used in previous works, because it valid for identical and non-identical beams.

Book Effects of Tuned Dampers on Vibrations of Cantilever Beams

Download or read book Effects of Tuned Dampers on Vibrations of Cantilever Beams written by Ahid D. Nashif and published by . This book was released on 1966 with total page 64 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A theory is presented for the effect of a tuned damper on a cantilever beam. The tuned damper consists of a mass connected through a link of viscoelastic material, with high loss factor, to a cantilever beam. Effective loss factors for the beam damper system are defined and experiments are described which confirm the main conclusions of the theory. Practical, light weight, damper unit designs which were used in the experimental investigation are also illustrated.

Book Beamlike Dynamic Vibration Absorbers

Download or read book Beamlike Dynamic Vibration Absorbers written by J. C. Snowdon and published by . This book was released on 1977 with total page 12 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The performance of several beamlike dynamic vibration absorbers is analyzed and, in one case, confirmed by experiment. The dynamic absorbers are employed to suppress the transmissibility at resonance across a simple mass-spring vibrator, a stanchion, and a simply supported rectangular panel. The absorbers comprise either single or double cantilever beams that are mass loaded at their free ends, or clamped-clamped beams that are centrally mass loaded. Generally, the beams provide both the absorber stiffness and damping--although, once, the beams are considered to possess little damping, and supplemental viscous damping is introduced by dashpots that link the absorber masses to the vibrating primary system of concern. Graphical or tabular design information is specified for the absorbers in each situation considered. Analyses are based throughout on the Bernoulli-Euler beam and thin-plate theories without simplification. In several of the situations analyzed, transmissibility curves are calculated to emphasize that the beamlike absorbers are broadly effective. (Author).

Book Particle Damping Technology Based Structural Control

Download or read book Particle Damping Technology Based Structural Control written by Zheng Lu and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2020-03-27 with total page 375 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents a systematic introduction to particle damping technologies, which can be used to effectively mitigate seismic-induced and wind-induced vibration in various structures. Further, it offers comprehensive information on the latest research advances, e.g. a refined simulation model based on the discrete element method and a simplified simulation model based on equivalent principles. It then intensively studies the vibration attenuation effects of particle dampers subjected to different dynamic loads; in this context, the book proposes a new damping mechanism and “global’’ measures that can be used to evaluate damping performance. Moreover, the book uses the shaking table test and wind tunnel test to verify the proposed simulation methods, and their satisfactory damping performance is confirmed. To facilitate the practical engineering application of this technology, optimization design guidelines for particle impact dampers are also provided. In closing, the book offers a preliminary exploration of semi-active particle damping technology, which holds great potential for extension to other applications in which the primary system is subjected to non-stationary excitations.

Book Compound Mounting Systems that Incorporate Dynamic Vibration Absorbers

Download or read book Compound Mounting Systems that Incorporate Dynamic Vibration Absorbers written by J. C. Snowdon and published by . This book was released on 1975 with total page 39 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The transmissibility across novel compound or two-stage mounting systems is discussed, and representative calculations of transmissibility are compared for systems with intermediate stages that comprise either (1) a rigid mass plus a dynamic vibration absorber, (2) dual beams loaded symmetrically by equal lumped masses, or (3) dual beams to which multiple dynamic vibration absorbers are attached. In the first case, the undesirable secondary resonance of the compound system can be suppressed effectively by the dynamic vibration absorber, for which appropriate design data are given. In the latter cases, lumped masses or dynamic vibration absorbers are applied to each intermediate beam of the compound system at the locations of the four upper mounts that support the vibrating item from below. In turn, the beams are supported at each end by single antivibration mounts on a rigid foundation.
