Book Prediction of Downwash Behind Swept wing Airplanes at Subsonic Speed

Download or read book Prediction of Downwash Behind Swept wing Airplanes at Subsonic Speed written by John DeYoung and published by . This book was released on 1955 with total page 688 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A rapid method for estimating the downwash behind swept-wing airplanes is presented. The basic assumption is that of a flat horizontal sheet of vortices trailing behind the wing. The integrations for the downwash are handled in a manner similar to both Multhopp's and Weissinger's approximate integrations in their span-loading calculations. The principal effects of rolling-up of the wake are treated as corrections to the flat-sheet wake. A simple approximate correction for the effect of the fuselage is applied. The agreement with available experimental data taken behind airplane models is good. Computing forms are included together with charts of pertinent functions, so as to enable simple direct application.

Book Summary and Analysis of Horizontal tail Contribution to Longitudinal Stability of Swept wing Airplanes at Low Speeds

Download or read book Summary and Analysis of Horizontal tail Contribution to Longitudinal Stability of Swept wing Airplanes at Low Speeds written by Robert H. Neely and published by . This book was released on 1959 with total page 100 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Air-flow characteristics behind wings and wing-body combinations are described and are related to the downwash at specific tail locations for unseparated and separated flow conditions. The effects of various parameters and control devices on the air-flow characteristics and tail contribution are analyzed and demonstrated. An attempt has been made to summarize certain data in a form useful for design. The experimental data herein were obtained mostly at Reynolds numbers greater than 4 x 105 and at Mach numbers less than 0.25.

Book Synthesis of Subsonic Airplane Design

Download or read book Synthesis of Subsonic Airplane Design written by E. Torenbeek and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-06-29 with total page 607 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Since the education of aeronautical engineers at Delft University of Technology started in 1940 under tae inspiring leadership of Professor H.J. van der Maas, much emphasis has been placed on the design of aircraft as part of the student's curriculum. Not only is aircraft design an optional subject for thesis work, but every aeronautical student has to carry out a preliminary airplane design in the course of his study. The main purpose of this preliminary design work is to enable the student to synthesize the knowledge ob tained separately in courses on aerodynamics, aircraft performances, stability and con trol, aircraft structures, etc. The student's exercises in preliminary design have been directed through the years by a number of staff members of the Department of Aerospace Engineering in Delft. The author of this book, Mr. E. Torenbeek, has made a large contribution to this part of the study programme for many years. Not only has he acquired vast experience in teaching airplane design at university level, but he has also been deeply involved in design-oriented re search, e.g. developing rational design methods and systematizing design information. I am very pleased that this wealth of experience, methods and data is now presented in this book.

Book Effect of Exhaust Pressure on the Performance of a 12 cylinder Liquid cooled Engine

Download or read book Effect of Exhaust Pressure on the Performance of a 12 cylinder Liquid cooled Engine written by Leland G. Desmon and published by . This book was released on 1947 with total page 530 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A dynamometer-stand investigation was conducted to determine the effect of exhaust pressure on the performance of a 12-cylinder liquid-cooled aircraft engine equipped with a conventional exhaust collector. The investigation covered a range of exhaust pressures from about 7 to approximately 62 inches of mercury absolute, engine speeds from 1600 to 3000 rpm, inlet-manifold pressures from 30 to 50 inches of mercury absolute and fuel-air ratios of 0.063, 0.069, 0.085, and 0.100.
