Book Design and Test of a Hydra Optic Flight Control Actuation System HOFCAS Concept

Download or read book Design and Test of a Hydra Optic Flight Control Actuation System HOFCAS Concept written by Lloyd L. Kohnhorst and published by . This book was released on 1980 with total page 112 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report describes the development, testing and demonstration of a Hydra-Optic Flight Control Actuation System (HOFCAS) suitable for the actuation tasks of a Digital Fly-By-Wire flight control system. HOFCAS offers a realistic, cost effective approach to reducing the susceptibility of aircraft fly-by-wire systems to EMP, EMI, RFI, lightning, etc. By removing the conventional wiring to the actuation areas of an aircraft, the concept eliminates the opportunity for electromagnetic hazards to enter the system. The HOFCAS concept provides a direct drive, hydraulically powered surface actuation system that provides immunity to electromagnetic radiation. The direct drive actuator, developed in a previous multiphase Navy Advanced Flight Control Actuation System (AFCAS) program, uses an electrical torque motor to power a single stage hydraulic valve for control of the actuator. A hydraulically powered alternator supplies the electrical power needed to operate the torque motor. The actuator command signal is supplied by a fiber optic link. The HOFCAS was configured to operate the directional control system in a T-2C aircraft. The AFCAS program demonstrated direct digital control of a surface actuator, and the HOFCAS extends this technology to demonstrate that conventional interconnecting electrical wiring to the surface actuators can be eliminated.

Book Research and Development of Aircraft Control Actuation Systems

Download or read book Research and Development of Aircraft Control Actuation Systems written by and published by . This book was released on 1986 with total page 178 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report describes the design and test of a multipurpose actuation test rig to be used for loaded evaluation of actuation systems with rotary outputs and/or integrated as part of wing structure. It also describes a hydromechanical flutter damping module for an F-4 stabilator actuator. The module incorporates design improvements based on previous test results. Laboratory tests results on the improved module are presented. Development and test results of a linear force motor based upon a moving magnet concept, and the measured performance characteristics of the concept over a range of parameter variations are presented. A method of force enhancement for direct drive force motors and the corresponding test results applied to a moving coil force motor are described. The concept is based upon applying a limited time duration pulse to the force motor in order to increase the force output when required. The logic technique used to initiate the pulse application is presented. Applying a digital computer as a controller for an analog electrohydraulic control system requires consideration of the interface used. The effect of a pulse width modulation interface on the life of analog electrohydraulic hardware is presented. There is a potential for reducing the pumping capacity of an aircraft's flight control hydraulic system by using accumulators to store hydraulic energy. The results of a study using this approach and an F-16 simulation are presented. Keywords: Digital interface; Energy storage; Flight control hydraulics; Force enhancement, Flutter suppression.

Book Permanent Magnet Motor Technology

Download or read book Permanent Magnet Motor Technology written by Jacek F. Gieras and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2009-08-25 with total page 591 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The importance of permanent magnet (PM) motor technology and its impact on electromechanical drives has grown exponentially since the publication of the bestselling second edition. The PM brushless motor market has grown considerably faster than the overall motion control market. This rapid growth makes it essential for electrical and electromechanical engineers and students to stay up-to-date on developments in modern electrical motors and drives, including their control, simulation, and CAD. Reflecting innovations in the development of PM motors for electromechanical drives, Permanent Magnet Motor Technology: Design and Applications, Third Edition demonstrates the construction of PM motor drives and supplies ready-to-implement solutions to common roadblocks along the way. This edition supplies fundamental equations and calculations for determining and evaluating system performance, efficiency, reliability, and cost. It explores modern computer-aided design of PM motors, including the finite element approach, and explains how to select PM motors to meet the specific requirements of electrical drives. The numerous examples, models, and diagrams provided in each chapter facilitate a lucid understanding of motor operations and characteristics. This 3rd edition of a bestselling reference has been thoroughly revised to include: Chapters on high speed motors and micromotors Advances in permanent magnet motor technology Additional numerical examples and illustrations An increased effort to bridge the gap between theory and industrial applications Modified research results The growing global trend toward energy conservation makes it quite possible that the era of the PM brushless motor drive is just around the corner. This reference book will give engineers, researchers, and graduate-level students the comprehensive understanding required to develop the breakthroughs that will push this exciting technology to the forefront.

Book Aerospace Actuators 1

Download or read book Aerospace Actuators 1 written by Jean-Charles Maré and published by Wiley-ISTE. This book was released on 2016-06-13 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is the first of a series of volumes that cover the topic of aerospace actuators following a systems-based approach. This first volume provides general information on actuators and their reliability, and focuses on hydraulically supplied actuators. Emphasis is put on hydraulic power actuators as a technology that is used extensively for all aircraft, including newer aircraft. Currently, takeovers by major corporations of smaller companies in this field is threatening the expertise of aerospace hydraulics and has inevitably led to a loss of expertise. Further removal of hydraulics teaching in engineering degrees means there is a need to capitalize efforts in this field in order to move it forward as a means of providing safer, greener, cheaper and faster aerospace services. The topics covered in this set of books constitute a significant source of information for individuals and engineers seeking to learn more about aerospace hydraulics.
